Hey Canada, if we Americans have our way, you're going to have your freedoms back, and more. More Freedom, more money, more of everything, just like we have.
Halfmile I know it was a couple weeks between when you shot the video and when you were able to post so this comment is a little odd but.... Hope the fires in your area aren't affecting you and yours.... Looks like you have some awesome data to work with a few good opportunities. 1 good thing about where you live is it sounds like you had Wilford Brimley at the range with ya. As much as the rest of the world believe that Clownifornia is unarmed these days nice to hear there is still hope for ya. Thanks for doing your best and when you get your loads dialed in I have an idea for a series for your video's that should throw the whole reloading world for a loop.
So far we are fairing well Jerk...the closest fire to me is about 70 miles away as the crow flies. At least the wind seems to have died down some today so hopefully the fire crews can gain some ground on the fires. There are a lot of shooters in CA but the large shooting population is still a bit of a minority in the State. In my County the Sheriff has approved over 38,000 CCWs at the last count I heard. For an anti-gun State, that is a lot of legally concealed guns, lol. I am interested to hear your idea when the time comes, we'll see what happens.
I was working and missed the live version. The groups are really good I bet they tighten up a little more with a more rounds down range. I have never shot on a public range and by the sounds of it I dont plan on it either,
Thanks Gord. I won't lie, I have to say I impressed myself...putting together a rifle, starting from a receiver and the first 16 groups give me 15 out of 16 groups that are sub MOA. Feels like a great start.
Hi Halfmile, that rifle is definitely a shooter very happy for you. A few tweaks here and there (seating deph ..) and you will be on the money. Nice day for you my friend. 👌
Thanks Francois. I may play with the depth once I play with the tuner. I will have to modify the mags to get the seating a little closer to the lands though. Glad you enjoyed this one, I sure enjoyed shooting it.
Even though it was busy there, it was a darn good day at the range...16 groups and all but one group were under 1 MOA. Not too shabby for a rifle I threw together.
Hi Halfmile! I was really looking forward to this video. I missed the live but watched it as soon as I woke up. I think you are going to have a shooter there.
Thanks Charles...I think you may be right...fresh from the build and only one group of those first 16 groups went over an inch, all the others were sub-MOA and several sub-1/2 MOA.
the StaBall is looking good and the RL15 is too...the first group with RL15 was alittle slow...pretty much a twin to the factory load, but .3" and 2.3 SD...hmmm
@Halfmilesniper RL15 is sweet on the SD and tight group to be sure. The big picture wasn't as pretty as the zoom in...lol ... Are you finding Alliant powder at reasonable prices. We are not up here. It is frustrating. When you find any they are $85-$100/pound. That is bonkers.
@@guardianminifarm8005 wow...that is outrageous. The Alliant stuff seems to be running $50-$55 a pounds, but supply has been spotty. Fortunately I do have a small supply of RL15 laid in at the moment.
That RL15 load, even though only moving as fast as the factory ammo, is looking like a winner. We've got a couple more loads to try out then we can play with the tuner brake and see how the groups react.
That Staball 6.5 looks promising! I'd be trying a small ladder on that stuff. i.e. 42.4. , 42.5, and 42.6. Of course distance and loads matter or change. Thx for the vid.
Before I start looking at the powder charges between what I tested I want to see if the tuner can shrink the best group in each load as well as the lowest ES/SD loads. I really want to zero in on a decent load to run with quickly...you know, for barrel life. The RL15 at the load charge had some impressive ES/SD and may be one of the good ones...we'll see.
Nice workup on the loads. Not as good as I expected for the caliber and quality of rifle but you're just getting started. I went through far too many powders working up .223 loads, found some good ones. 3/4" groups at 200yds with the barrel and trigger combo (not your typical setup) and that's with loads from my progressive press. Got lucky with the combo, stopped while I was ahead. I foresee some really good groups from your new build.
I have 2 more powders to try before I start tweaking the tuner. We'll see how it comes along...trying to get to a good working load as quickly as I can...not necessarily the best load, but a reliable good shooting load.
Good job on the build, and even the first new loads. Looking forward to seeing more of this rifle in and out of competition. Thanks for taking us along to the range.
That stabal definitely looks interesting, need more rounds through it though. Yup, find something decent and just use it, chasing perfection may never get you what you want and just wear out the barrel so you need to start over.
I forget which General said it, but his quote is fitting: Don't let a good plan be ruined by perfection...maybe Gen LeMay??? I want to get dialed in on a decent load quickly, and then just run with it for a while and see ho I do.
Thank you Bill...and I fully agree and appreciate those out in the field doing the job now. Thanks to all the first responders - police and firefighters!

That StaBall 6.5 and the RL15 both gave some great groups and numbers, Those are two that will get tested through the tuner. I have 2 more loads to test, hopefully I can do it this weekend if the wind lays down a bit. Thanks for watching JC, I really appreciate it.

@@JCJustice-kv2gy I believe you did tell me the 65 was temp sensitive... I think this one would do well in a hunter stock or chassis. That would definitely make it lighter. The year started well, and fortunately, we are a good ways away from the fires...as long as the firebugs stay away. These wind events seem to bring them out of the woodwork.
Great job on the build. Numbers using Reloader are really nice plus using less powder. And don't need a shoulder pad for recoil. Public ranges can be different. Stay safe & keep having fun. 🎯🙏👍
I will give this range some props...the Range Master premptively chewed everyone about shooting their own target...was very specific...do not shoot anyone else's target as some of these shooters are working up loads and you will screw up their data! It was nice to hear someone give a darn about what the shooters were doing. RL15 definitely is showing some promise.
I am definitely leaning that way. The factory Berger was running about 2820, well below advertised and the first RL15 group was right in that ballpark with a nice group and tight ES/SD.
Thanks Halfmile greetings from Canada
Thank you, glad to have you here watching. It is very much appreciated.
