ROTARY, Gig Harbor Midday, Contributes to Ukrainian Refugees through AFUVA in Vaucluse, France
AFUVA, Affiliation of France and Ukraine in Vaucluse, is a charitable organization in Southern France, that is helping Ukrainian refugees - most of whom are women and children - to resettle in their area after being forced to flee their country. This organization helps them find housing, food, clothing, and supplies. Thereafter, assists them with enrolling their children in local schools to advance in academics including French. A USA Rotary Club located in Gig Harbor, WA is supporting AFUVA and its actions by providing additional funding through the Club’s International Committee. Members of the Club intend to visit Vaucluse and help in these endeavors in person as well.

Looking for a new adventure, Patricia Vellinga and her husband buy a boat-a big boat that turns out to be more a yacht kit than a yacht. Their simple plan is to cruise Europe and the Mediterranean for one year. Their journey, however, is far from routine. As Pat and Ray motor through the canals of Holland, Belgium, and France, then sail to Italy, Greece, Turkey, and Spain, they find beauty and ...

At the first and second boat, the lever is too small to compensate rolling forces. Would (additional) outriggers with surface piercing dihedral foils make sense? What is the assumed take-off speed of the first two vessels?

Ducted propeller creates more power through efficiency, like Submarines have ducted propellers. Means I should send this to the foil races above as they’re looking to create more power. Of course this means the race controllers should allow ducted propellers so more people learn the power through efficiency a duct holds. ua-cam.com/video/83jClT25GX0/v-deo.html

wake is great lost of energy in the feeling of drag or slowing down study of foil show good foil make it easy for cruise with less than 10hp but I donot know if you need more power of lift up but people buy wrong foil bad balance of pitch angle of boat nose up angle remember wing suit is not for gliding but for diving! same thing happens when people sharpen skate I will test aroliner this summer in red river Winnipeg 2022

You might want to try bigger wings to produce more lift. And ditch the curved drive line to the prop. That's just wasting power.

Looks like a lot of boat but quite refined. I used to be a world class pedaler. Is the regular bike positioning optimal for short bursts of speed? Pedaling recumbent will take specific training to optimize but I can imagine some for of rowing could be incorperated to extract more short term power output. My personal obsession is to have a fast ecranoplan. It would not need to touch the water per se and fly across smooth fields just as well, especially on a slight down slope. I know the HPV planes that crossed the Channel may be considered ground effect planes but they were built for distance, not speed. With a 1 minute or less power burst, how sleek could an ecranoplan be and barely achieve lift?

Hello, Ray. I bought your book, and am fascinated by foiling. I have a 26’ express cruiser, and am thinking of adding foils to provide enough lift to improve fuel economy (I use it a lot), and stabilize pitching. I boat on Lake Ontario, which has very wavy waters, often around 2 feet, and this makes boating very bouncy. The spacing of the waves creates a lot of pitching on plane - about 38-44 km/hr. My thought was to add a noise foil to stabilize the bow so it doesn’t constantly fall into the trough, and scrub a lot of speed. Then add two rear foils to provide some lift at the rear. My boat weighs about 7000# loaded, and don’t need to lift it completely out of the water - just create about 1000# of lift to lighten, reducing some drag and keep the bow high and stable. Just wondering if you think this is a feasible approach to foiling? It would add many hours of boating pleasure in this turbulent lake. Also, I would consider hiring you to assist with the design, to avoid any pitfalls as I understand this is a pioneering approach. Please advise if you have a minute. Thank you. Peter@shingwa.com, if you would like to reach out to me.

Actually Alexander Graham Bell was born in Scotland to Scottish parents. Alexander moved to Canada and after some time he worked at the Boston University ( I believe), though his home was in Ontario Canada and did travel back and forth. After a couple of years in Boston he move back to his home in Ontario where he continued to develop the telephone. I believe it when he retired he moved to New York, this is probably when to got the idea he was an American. The could have happened , but he was also called a Canadian before he retired. He could have also remained Scottish as I am not sure how things worked back then. Then his invention of the telephone was called a Canadian invention.

I've been looking for info on Hy-Foil for years. In the late '60s my dad looked at one, and I (around 10 yo.) rode on the back. The guy demonstrating perforfance, had an English accent. It was demonstrated at Carter Lake, Iowa USA. The lake is located across the road from Omaha, Nebraska USA airport. Never thought I would see documentation about it again. Dad took 8mm movies of that day, don't know what happened to film. Thanks for the "wayback machine"
