I've been looking for info on Hy-Foil for years. In the late '60s my dad looked at one, and I (around 10 yo.) rode on the back. The guy demonstrating perforfance, had an English accent. It was demonstrated at Carter Lake, Iowa USA. The lake is located across the road from Omaha, Nebraska USA airport. Never thought I would see documentation about it again. Dad took 8mm movies of that day, don't know what happened to film. Thanks for the "wayback machine"
I rode pillion on the hyfoil prototype behind Ivor Cole during the making of the promotional film and the public release to the national newspapers and television. (I worked for MTE Control Gear, parent company of the designers Anglian Development). The film was made ion the river Hamble, Hampshire and the public release was in London on the Thames - in deep Winter ! Alas we hit a submerged log during a turn and ended up in the water much to the delight of the journos who snapped us, heads bobbing in the freezing water, beside the upturned hull !! All good fun.
I should add that the prototype was made of wood with a long bench seat to accommodate a pillion rider. I was selected because I was a skinny young thing so wouldn’t add much weight to the already heavy craft. I was also free, as in no cost haha, as I worked for the company. I have the first promo brochure printed showing the prototype, airbrushed to resemble the planned production model, with Ivor wearing yellow rubber gloves as he got the odd electric shock from the handles. :)
Hi J Cr! I found this video by accident looking for hydrofoil PWC designs. I am extremely impressed and excited to see that someone commenting here has knowledge let alone a connection to the design! I am looking to build a foil personal watercraft as a fun engineering project and would really love to better understand the design of the hy foil. do you happen to know the patent number for the foil? Thanks!

That looks like it works pretty good. I like it !
It is baffling why this did not become the hit that jet skis are.
