I was watching this recently and loved it! Wanted to see if anyone had talked about it and found this video, I'm really glad to see someone else enjoyed this series as much as I did.

The best part is that the context was mostly just barely existent in the first place

I watched this anime when I was like 12 (??) and it literally TORE me in half, Ryuji has always been a „literally me“ character for me and I’d give so much just to be able to watch it for the first time again. 10/10 😭

There's literally no place for me to watch this legally here in Germany, so annoying. Hidive isn't available anymore since the beginning of the year, so you gotta watch everything illegally now or what? I wanna support the creators of stuff I like, but the modern streaming chaos has made this pretty impossible at this point, it's ridiculous.

The anime felt like it needed to be longer. I haven't watched it in so long, but it's been popping on my feed recently

The show's greatest strength was its potential for world-building through its incredible art direction, but it often stubbornly refused, chosing instead to focus on throwaway subplots and locations. If it wasn't ruined by the crybaby, annoying beetle character, it was only showing the submarine in what could've been an incredible underwater adventure. If it wasn't that, it was the fishing episode (which started with a perfect train travel sequence) ruined by the decision to rain on the parade with moody weather and drama between characters. The show was constantly fighting itself

I'm confused on the time thing. So if two people enter the district at the same time from the same location. one of the people leave for 5 minutes then enter the district again then the other person leaves. is the first person who left just on autopilot for the other person, how do the time stopping for someone works?

I know I’m late but mushi -shi is a good anime but I only got so far in the first season it’s to slow so if your a person who likes less action or older types of anime then this is the anime for you

I'm an older viewer and this is my favourite anime. I don't watch many other anime. It's particularly good if you consider it a philosophical tale, where each faction (tengu, tanuki & human) are metaphors for different aspects of the human spirit. Humans are cruel/kind/unpredictable, tengu are prideful/powerful/conceited, and tanuki are humble/playful/doomed - aspects which are ultimately all human, but split among factions in the world of this anime. Which means each faction tells a tale of what it is like to be alive, from a different angle. Beyond that, you have the crossover characters who are tormented by trying to be what they're not - like Benten, a human who wants to wield the power of a tengu but not be tormented by human sentimentality, or Soun Ebisugawa who wants to be among humans to wield human cruelty as a weapon, but doesn't want to deal with the vulnerability of being a tanuki. Akadama sensei who, having lost his abilities as a tengu, still retains all their haughty arrogance, yet also retains his sympathy for the vulnerable tanuki - or yasaburou, who crosses all worlds... I think these characters (and more unmentioned, esp yajiro who's my favourite) are all just metaphors for what it's like to be human. It's adapted from books by Morimi Tomihiko who I'm currently reading. I noticed similar themes (ie. the human inevitability of loss) in the anime adaptation of Penguin Highway, which uses another Morimi book a source. Check it out if you haven't.

i watched mushi-shi a few years ago and i was OBSESSED. i'm thinking of rewatching it sometime soon

Watched it, Loved it! to the point that I read the whole manga to see it's conclusion. And also, I read the shimeji simulation, Great experience!!!!

I loved this story but its in my watch list as hated --- it becomes creepy in some way doesnt it...
