    A lot of games mentioned in the video are AAA games that have similar issues not involving an XP system. One example I found with both the Horizon games, and Assassin Creed open-world games, is the fact you can relatively easily unlock all the skills, rendering the experience system pointless. This means it's not really much of a skill "tree," and instead you're simply deciding which skills to have first. In my opinion, this eliminates the purpose of having XP. So I would agree with you in this instance; however, in games that allow you choose your preferred playstyle by leveling up with experience, and purchasing the ones you want knowing that you will have to choose carefully your specialization, would change the dynamic entirely. With your system, this would require you to look up a guide on the internet in order to plot your playstyle and skills. Arguably, having to specialize is what made these systems popular in the first place, but the simplification of modern AAA games has bastardized the systems they were based on.

      I’m torn on whether a system should make all skill unlockable or not i.e. choose a playstyle vs unlock everything. I guess I’d leave that to the development team of each game. But my system wouldn’t require anyone to look up info on the internet. That's up to the developers to determine how a gamer learns how to obtain certain skills. I’ll say this. I recently finished Cyberpunk 2077 (can’t unlock everything) and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora (can unlock everything) and in both cases, I found the level tree and XP systems very unfulfilling. I won’t get into it here but I’ve recently been experiencing a plateau in game creativity. Environments are getting better and better (see the 2 games just mentioned) but gameplay has stagnated and even regressed (see the upcoming Star Wars Outlaws).

    Just give me all the abilities a character has from the get go like an old arcade game and focus on making the levels/world difficult and interesting, because to me the only progression that truly matters is the player's skill and knowledge, everything else is a waste of time, and is just plain condensing to the player. Don't even give me a tutorial level, give me that vertical slice moment from the world go like Ninja Gaiden 2 (Xbox360) so its not a chore to replay. To me, the first playthrough is NOT the most important, every playthrough after the first should be the priority, there's a reason people love NG+ if its in a game.

    Such an amazing game. The community-made Anniversary Edition launcher/patcher enables all moves from the start, and if you want a *serious* challenge, you can install the "Brutal AI" and "Brutal Konoko" mods. There are many of others, such as retextures and a conversion mega-pack that adds new enemies and encounters, but I'll leave the rest for everyone to discover in the launcher. You can download+install mods directly from there. Way cool stuff!

    I just beat rise yesterday after its been sitting on my shelf since the year it came to ps4 so it's fresh for me. The story is even worse then the gameplay. Feels like NOTHING ever happens. Its full of instances like Jonah pointing a gun at the bad guy but not shooting him so the bad guy could stab him or Lara taking a solid minute to smash the artifact down while surrounded by an army of zombie greeks and it makes me want to die. Also lara was such a badass in the old games and now shes limping, complaining, getting smacked around, and never putting her phone down and walking slow so I can't play the game. Worst of all, she NEVER shuts up. Imagine playing a zelda game and link was constantly talking to himself saying "I think I need to open this door somehow" "I might be able to climb up there." That's what this game is. Not only do these games disrespect your time, they disrespect your intelligence and those are two of the worst sins a game can commit. It also has no reason to be open world or have crafting. I'm done with games shoehorning crafting into them. Ruins the flow of gameplay because now instead of clearing a room and moving on, I have to loot all the bodies and bumble around looking for ore and stuff like a moron.

No, of course not; I'm just gonna stand here until something kills me... The truth is FS has barely made any changes to the DS1 UI/UX, and it came out 14 years ago! The amount of amateurish design in FS games is astonishing, and they are not learning from their past mistakes/experience. It's just copy-paste with minor changes. It's really funny how some seriously great design appears next to complete trash in FS games... Oh, and I forgot about how you have to exhaust an NPS's dialogue before they move to the next location. @@MediaKitGaming Perhaps a video about how it didn’t inspire you to make a video? 😅 Just kidding! I enjoyed the simplicity of the ZD weapon wheel when I went back and played it again. The grind for weapon upgrades in FW definitely sucked, but it did make me a better hunter, so maybe they did that on purpose.

    • @MediaKitGaming
      @MediaKitGaming Місяць тому

      @@nerdaholic3000 I have conflicting opinions about that. I love that parts had to be targeted to be used to upgrade weapons. It gave hunting a purpose and meant I had to be more methodical about combat. It added a dynamic that I think the game benefited from. BUT… when I returned to the same stalker area to farm cloak emitters for the 5th (or more) time, I was like, “This sucks.” Some of those purple weapons and armor took a lot of grinding to upgrade. I gained various legendary (gold) weapons and only bothered to upgrade one of them, and only 2 or 3 levels because I was so over it. I got tired of farming apex-flyer parts in particular. But you're right. The grind became unbearable. I finished the game & DLC with mostly purple weapons. In Horizon 3, I want to be able to make my own bow. Say I find a bow chassis with 3 slots. I want to make it a fire/freeze/acid bow… nah, I changed my mind, I want it to be a purge water/electric/tear-off bow. Let me do that! I wasn't a fan of getting a new bow and it did normal/electric/more-electric. Great! Thanks. Now I've tied up a whole weapon slot for one element type. Upgrading the spear to ignite firegleam and whack open metal flowers was lame AF! The story and characters were great. The map was astonishing to run around in... just gorgeous! Combat remained top-notch! Tripcaster and traps were nerfed and expensive so I played the whole game ignoring them and the trap skill tree. I think that's unfortunate. I saw a Redditor who said he stealth and trapped his way through almost the entirety of HZD and I think that's awesome that a player can decide that's how they want to play and then do it. There's my video outline, I guess. Thoughts?

    Why did you not touch on the story as other people mention in the comments? I just recently bought shadow of the thombraider, never having played any of the games. @@MediaKitGaming for me that's point of debate. Agreed, a flat story most definitely can be saved by good gameplay. I myself however really enjoy some survival horror games or story based games (for example until dawn or dark pictures). In these games the story for me is what carries it. The gameplay in the tomb raider is definitely disappointing and not logical but for me the story dissapointed me more than for instance 'not being able to manually crouch' or 'the weapons not being nicely arranged in the menu'. Added to all the valid points you made, I think the story being not catching enough is a major point

      @@MediaKitGaming Yeah i saw all of your videos, both on Oni and Sleeping Dogs, and i loving them. I currently play Oni to try to grasp as much as i can. I'm asking cause prolly at the end of the year i will start developing a 3rd person melee game(more likely melee practice arena, and will build on after that), and wants to get the perfect combat down. I almost made my mind of what everything needs to be, and definitely will include throws, and directional attack, but the thing i can't decide is, should the attacks be animated locked, like in Fighting Games for example, and to be fair even in Oni, there is animation on your attack, even though you can aim the direction, or they should be completely free like Jedi Academy, where you can move to all direction when you are attacking. My main problem with Jedi Academy is at high level there is too little engagement, a lot of footwork/movement, which i like, as i think this leads to very high skill ceiling, and it's very skillful and rewards the better player, but it lacks option to deal with passive players that have good movement, but you essentially have hard time catching them with anything, even if you are very good mover as well. I would absolutely love to collect as much info, before i start building everything. I'm Finishing my C++ course by September/October, and then will start building on UE5.5 or the newest at that time. I'm really sad that most of today games are so much for casuals, and lacks depth and variety, just 1 button mash, no good footwork involved, 1 button for dodge, that when timed perfectly does the job for you.

    • @MediaKitGaming
      @MediaKitGaming Місяць тому

      @@user-nn2fh5yo5w So, I don’t know if this will be any help, but here’s my best input. Variety is the most important element in a combat system (see video above). If a combat system has: light hit, heavy hit, dodge, parry & block, you have the VERY basics of every modern combat system. It’s already getting old. Oni had only 2 basic attacks: punch & kick. But those 2 moves were modified into different attacks when combined with other buttons like run, jump, crouch, evade, slide, movement direction, etc. That’s why Oni remains the best. Variety gives the player options to approach situations differently; to use different moves, to use the environment in different ways. Many good moves may only be executable after another move… like a move that you can only do after a block or parry or strike or dodge, etc. The controls should be as easy as possible for the player to learn. The player should be thinking about when and how to use certain attacks during the game, not how to execute the attacks. This is difficult because all games are expected to support controllers and players are used to only attacking with 2 buttons these days. The encounters should be challenging, but not the controls. Lock-on should be optional. But if lock-on is not engaged, I want the character to auto-lock on the closest enemy in the character’s field of view. One of the many reasons I don’t like Elden Ring, is FromSoft games always use animation lock. It makes the games harder and slower-paced. Many players like it, but I don’t. I want to be able to dodge and block at any time. I’m also not a big fan of stamina bars. Also, Souls characters have relatively few moves they can do. It gets repetitive. Throws sounds fun. Other ideas: trips, climb on back, slide between legs, crotch hit, throwables (bottles/rocks/sand), disarm or use attacker’s weapon against them, environment (walls, stairs, doors, windows, etc), push, bodyslam, slide tackle. Study up on the best martial arts moves… spin hook kick, elbow strike, etc. Anyway, those are just some thoughts. Good luck!

    This is my first From Soft game and I came in fully prepared for a new level of difficulty in terms of combat. What I wasn't prepared for was the new level of difficulty in terms of missing QoL stuff that I'd taken for granted. I'm not talking about the lack of a minimap or lack of quest logs-- I've played and enjoyed mil sim games where you literally have to navigate with a compass and a paper map, that's all fine. It's the goddamned item management, the scrolling. It's so cumbersome. A radial wheel or hotkeys would make a world of difference. I'm 11 hours in, I beat Margit, have done a bunch of stuff in the starter zone, and I still avoid very dark areas because the process of pulling out my torch and then putting it back away so I can dual wield in combat is so awkward that I will often get it wrong and then die while fumbling around in the scroll options. I haven't even thought about adding a crossbow or spell staff to my setup yet purely based on this. It's just annoying because this shouldn't be part of the "git gud" process. You have to memorize key press combos like you're playing Street Fighter, but it's for item management, not combat.

    Lara was 'Microsofted.' By that I mean so insanely complicated that I don't even want to play it. The one in Japan was mediocre with the complexity of abilities. It's like they are trying to make Tomb Raider like Skyrim or Assassin's Creed which I'm done with. The games and tech needed to run these on a PC is fucking insane, sorry to say. I prefer the Remasters overall.

    I'll always prefer the classic. Anniversary, Legend, and Underworld were really good. If only they would have remade 2, 3, & 4 like Anniversary. I suggested it but only fans listen.

    Mimimi started as a company to give life to RTS stealth games after Commandos series died. They became very good at it to the point where we started saying Shadow Tactics-like for a while. Unfortunately, their latest game Shadow Gambit was a very far departure from the original path. All the new magic stuff, teleporting... this isn't the Commandos-like nor Shadow Tactics-like. I was a die hard fan and was waiting patiently for SG, I didn't even bother buying it after the first video. God knows when will another company take the torch for this genre 😢

    I disagree with the "...no one played...". I am still playing the Commandos games, along with the 3 Desperados games and Robin Hood. The latter one especially, it's so well crafted, the maps, the music, make it feel so authentic. Same as the music in Commandos 2 Men of Courage, reminds me of some old war movies, Dirty Dozen, Where Eagles Dare and Guns of Navarone. They really get you in the mood and you lose yourself. Tried the 3 games by Mimimi but Desperados 3 was a bit of a letdown. Cooper's a gunslinger in the 2 previous games and here he can get a shot off every 10 seconds ? Seriously ? I get the stealth part but this game is at a scale of 1000% stealth with overmultiple enemies and all you can try to do is to stealth your way through them. Easily detected if you make noise or move carelessly, in my opinion, that's why Mimimi died. There must be some freedom. That's why Commandos 2 is THE masterpiece. Not as strict as the first game, allowing for some room to try different ways. Same goes for Robin Hood The Legend of Sherwood. One mistake doesn't mean reload. Once you get Little John you're golden. I still have to try Shadow Gambit, Patrisans 1941 and War Mongrels. I am also playing the Splinter Cell and Thief series of games and the very first, original Deus Ex from 2000-2001. Stealth it's my favorite game genre but i don't like the Hitman games because you have to figure out ways to make it look like an accident and that gets boring fast. Again, only one way to do things and stay hidden in plain sight, no choice. I mean, yeah, you can shoot everyone but that's no stealth.

    I'd like to make a DIShonorable mention in sprinting. GTA. You mash A to sprint. You stop mashing, you stop sprinting. And then you're stuck in the Grand Senora Desert, with no vehicle and none nearby. Or you're in the Epsilon Program mission line, in which one mission entails sprinting a lap around the whole Grand Senora Desert. All roughly 4 miles of it, as the slowest playable character. And then you go outside and wipe a whole invading army just by thrusting your thumb in their foreheads.

    I would like to mention that game Partisans 1941 is a Russian game that glorifies RED ARMY, which was ally of Na*i Germany even before the WW2 and invade Poland with Na*is in 17 of September 1939. Red Army committed a lot of atrocities and war crimes. To Poles, Belarusians, Ukrainians, Slovaks, Hungarians, Moldavians and so on, Russian army was not better then Na*is. They were fighting Na*is only because they were attack by them. By games like Partisans 1941 Russians are distorting history and paint themselves as the "good guys" which can't be further from the truth.

    Hold is better. Even in horizon, you have more than just the tip of your pinky. Hit control to slide with your knuckle. Its a bit of an acquired skill to learn to multitask with your pinky like that, but with games like Warframe, hitting control after a slide is necessary for using certain speed tech. Not necessarily a skill issue, more of a muscle memory issue.
