I would argue that this bass sounds great. First off the original pickup is very bright and punchy though without that really nasal stingray sound, so you have no trouble cutting through the mix. Secondly, all 3 positions are humbucking because this is actually a Schaller quad-coil pickup with the "single coil" position being wired like a precision pickup. Playing with your hand closer to the neck can get that classic P-bass tone. It's true that the parallel and single settings lack some low end, but you can EQ that easily on your amp or with a pedal. If I had to criticize something, I thought these did come with rubber pads, but I guess some did not or it deteriorated because mine didn't have one either.

Those basses were kind of a mini Steinberger, using Kramer aluminum braced neck tech. In lieu of the Steinberger folding leg brace (for seated playing), they glued a rubbery lined strip onto the bottom bout of the body, which worked great until it fell off. Steinbergers also have a plastic plate that rotates out from the back, with a strap button on it, which helped eliminate neck dive. But my Kramer balances out on the strap OK even without such a device (that button is on a neck plate screw).

Mica and Mary are so nice to deal with. I enjoy visiting the Mothership since it's only 15 minutes away from me and looking at all the cool posters, and seemingly countless Alembic basses and guitars in the shop area. It's like an hour vacation from the real world. I look forward to hearing the SEREK bass. Wow, your SEREK sounds AMAZING. I love the mix of Alembic and a bolt on neck. I own a Yamaha MIJ P/J bass with Alembic pups and pre and it sounds great, too, but yours growls !

What gauge round wound strings do you prefer on your 4003? I always find round wound strings to be floppy because of the 33 1/4" scale. I switched to flats because there is more tension but I miss rounds.

Head position looks similar to a Fender Jazz.

I never understood why some like to hear their tone different from what the audiences is hearing via FOH. If I'm using my amp, it's because my signal is not going to FOH. Thus, it's a smaller venue.

I used to have that same acoustic head....kick myself for letting it go!

Is the Alembic activator an active pickup? Have you considered a three way comparison between Alembic, Lusithand and Underhill filters?

I love how they look! My only concern would be that I would get brush burns on my arm while playing with a pick 🙃

The 4000 reminds me of 4004. But, with the 4004, it has the neck pickup and a selection switch with 2 knobs!

When Bass and Treble are at Zero, they short to ground, classic FMV passive tonestack. Thats why Mids becomes Volume, its the only circuit path thru the EQ tonestack that doesn't short to ground ✊👍

Nice side by side! I run the Underground Accelerator and use it when I need a bit of that tube overdrive sound. It really can run the gamut from warm to DRIVEN, and yes, it takes a bit to truly dial it in to a sound you one because of all the options available. Nice job!

Was it just me or was the lower end of the demo sounding like a not greatly tracking octave type sound? I was listening through headphones, albeit Bluetooth, but I’ve not had that issue before.

Thanks for keeping this video up for so long so that I was able to find it! I have an EB 450, which is the longscale vesion, but otherwise it's the same. My 450 is the first bass that I bought, and I've owned it since 1983. My bass is a 1972 year model, and I'll never sell it as long as I can move my fingers; I love it still and play it just about every day. As @jimothy states below, my bass is also a bit weak on the e-string lower frequencies, but that's fine by me, since I am a Peter Hook influenced player, and this bass is very sweet sounding up high and in the mids. Frets 5 to 10 on the A, D, and G string still sound like heaven to me.

Lusithand filter is great. But youll need a high pass filter afterwards to control the sub 50kh boom

Superb looking and sounding bass (comfy looking too)!! Nice playing also. I wondered if the bridge would make good contact with the body with the fabric in between, but that doesn't seem to be an issue.

Theese basses are some of the worst looking. Cnc basses I've ever seen. And the price! Give me a break! Nobody keeps them because they're crap. Theyre always for sale on the second hand market

I think it looks awesome. I'm always drawn to unique looking basses though. This would absolutely be attention grabbing at a live show.
