    Good suggestions. However, the price of a 32kg kettlebell, where I live, is prohibitively expensive. They can cost more than a half decent barbell. I love kettlebells, but I think a barbell has more utility.

    My copy arrives today. Really looking forward to it. I’ve been doing The Simple Six, which was written by Clinton Dobbins but seems to be no longer sold, and it’s been great. It’s five exercises (Push-up, Chin-up, Goblet Squat, Kettlebell Press and Kettlebell Swing) followed by 30 minutes of any cardio. So it’s about an hour. But I’m looking for a more minimalist workout which will combine strength and cardio in one go and take less time.

    Hello Pat, thank you very much. Could you please elaborate a bit on Protein Shakers as a replacement for a meal in order to loose weight? In Europe, a standard shaker is 3 spoons/300ml/150 calories, that's a bit light for a meal. By the way, some Pat Flynn's special shaker recipes could be a great idea for future videos.

    Here is one "rule" I've found; if getting results in cardio is a goal, try to do around 8 hours pr. week consistently, and spend most of that time in zone 2. Don't worry to much about doing intervals, they should not be the main focus, build your fitness foundation first. (I know professional athletes do much more, but that's their job. I have a job, so I can't do 15-20 hours of working out every week.) In my experience 3-5 hours is ok, it is possible to gain good results with that depending on your level. But a certain amount of volume is necessary and it is a quality in itself, and I find there is a big difference between 5 and 8 hours. Keeping in mind that the majoirty of the time is spent in zone 2, so that means you need to spend enough time there. It's of course possible to do more if time allows, and I do some weeks, but I find there is diminishing returns while working a full time job. Take 1-2 rest days pr. week, and that means you should do a long run or a long bike ride once a week.

    Do "mobility" everyday. This might be Time Anderson's OS Resets, or maybe you set some light arbitrary goals of, 5 push ups, 5 upward to downward dogs, 20 body weight squats, etc... even if it's just 3-5 minutes. Theres something magic about hitting basic movement patterns every day. "Strength is a skill".

    I know intermittent fasting was the craze for a while, but for me it was quite life changing. I was never a breakfast guy but was told "it's the most important meal of the day". But it always just slowed me down. Made me sluggish and MORE hungry. But if I just stick with coffee until 10, or noon, or 2pm...or 4...or whenever I feel like eating my mornings are more productive, and my workouts are better.

    • @KettlebellQuickies
      @KettlebellQuickies 14 днів тому

      @@mikemolaro4198 I’m with you. I often feel my best-most alive and alert-eating lightly or nothing in the morning. (Obviously, this may not be the case for everyone but I think it’s worth giving it a shot, and the 5/2 approach I discuss in this video can be a good starting point).

  • @utubepunk

    Not sure what it's called... the ratio rule? When shopping for food, look at the ratio of calories to protein. Automatically add a zero to the protein. 23 grams of protein becomes 230. Compare that to the calories & if it's equal or the protein number is greater (230 in this example) than total calories, then it's good to go. If not, avoid it. Combine that with Pat's rules for maximum benefit.

    • @KettlebellQuickies
      @KettlebellQuickies 14 днів тому

      It depends what you're going for. If you just want strength and general conditioning--then yes, you can get away with far less. But if you want *muscle*, especially beyond just newbie gains, then it's fairly well established that volume needs to be around that (in fact, more advanced lifters sometimes need even more).

    Thank you for the great tips and do have a Merry Christmas if I don't get to say it beforehand. I think it's on the 25th this year. Personally, I'm always a bit wary of a food product where the actual animal being eaten is shown happily assenting to the process; like a smiling fish jumping into a fryer or a pig in a chef's hat smiling at how delicious it is going to be. Very, very unsettling. And not in a good way.

    For a minimalist setup with a little bigger budget… Two competition style kettlebells, one fixed weight and one adjustable (12-32, one concept/many brands). The famous Abwheel. A Strongman style sandbag. Parallell bars. Highly recommend the B-Bars from Baseblocks. I acquired parallell bars before I got a pullup bar. I think they’re very versatile. Dips, knee tucks and L-sit variations, body rows, bodyweight biceps curls, triceps extensions, tuck front levers, gliding leg curls… the B-Bars have a high setting that allows you to do L-sit or knee tuck pullups. Great piece of gear! With this setup you’re golden… Oh, and don’t forget the jump rope! (I constantly do 🙄)
