Madonna - Into The Groove
This awesome classic is my second best Madonna song ever, and I remember the mad rush to get this record when it first came out in 1985--the track was released as a single worldwide except in the USA, where Warner Bros dumped it on the B-side of the 12" version of "Angel." Information was scarce at the time, and despite the song being played everywhere on radio and MTV, I just could not find it on sale since I had no idea it was only available on a 12" record. A side trip to New York City on my way to my parents' home made me visit Tower Records, and there I found and bought the "Angel/Into The Groove" 12" at last! "Into The Groove" went to #1 on Billboard's Dance chart, and became a #1 hit on the UK Pop charts. While there have been many remixes of this song appearing on various Madonna compilations, this original version is still the best version for me.

Larry John McNally - Just Like Paradise
Переглядів 4919 годин тому
Singer-songwriter and musician Larry John McNally released this track in 1981 as the first single from his self-titled debut album, and it was one of my favorite songs of that year. "Just Like Paradise" went to #86 on Billboard's Hot 100 chart, making it another of those singles that I thought deserved to be a bigger hit. from the album Larry John McNally written by Larry John McNally © copyrig...
Rickie Lee Jones - Weasel and the White Boys Cool
Переглядів 5314 днів тому
This awesome track from singer-songwriter and musician Rickie Lee Jones' 1979 debut album is one of my favorites from her it's a very cool, jazzy number like a slow jam perfect for chilling out. For her self-titled debut album, she's backed by a great gathering of session musicians that included established artists like Tom Scott, Steve Gadd, Ernie Watts, Neil Larsen, Buzz Feiten, Jeffrey Porca...
Ali Thomson - Take A Little Rhythm

Scottish singer-songwriter Ali Thomson had a hit in 1980 with this track, which he took to #15 on Billboard's Hot 100 chart and also became a Top 5 hit on the Adult Contemporary chart, going to #4. "Take A Little Rhythm" was also one of my favorite songs of 1980; I loved the arrangements used here, particularly the saxophone and guitars that really go well together. Also liked the song's positi...
Pizzicato Five - Triste (Single Version)
Переглядів 8421 день тому
One of my favorite songs from the Japanese pop band Pizzicato Five is this awesome track that was released as a single in 1995. The title "Triste" means "sad", and yet it sounds anything but sad building on interpolated riffs from "I Fell" by The Four Kings Cousins and "If You Really Love Me" by Stevie Wonder, the song goes its own way, turning into a bright, brassy, happy tune despite the sad ...
Mac McAnally - Minimum Love
Переглядів 6721 день тому
This was one of my favorite songs of 1983, and it's by singer-songwriter, musician and producer Mac McAnally, who many mistook for James Taylor when they first heard the song; as for me, I thought it was Dan Seals at first. "Minimum Love" went to #41 on Billboard's Hot 100 chart, and also became a Top Ten hit on the Adult Contemporary chart, peaking at #7. I really liked the arrangements done h...
Bud and Travis - Truly Do
Переглядів 7228 днів тому
I first noticed this lovely song playing in the background on several episodes of the CBS TV series, "Northern Exposure" in 1990, but it took several years later for me to finally learn the full title and artist of the song, and it was Bud Dashiell and Travis Edmonson, the folk music duo known as Bud & Travis. "Truly Do" was the B-side of "Bonsoir Dame," one of their singles released in 1959, w...
Nicolette Larson - When You Come Around

This is probably singer-songwriter Nicolette Larson's most underrated song, which was released as a single in 1981 but failed to chart. New Order - True Faith (Remix Edit)

This is my favorite New Order song, and this version that I've posted is not an official edit; rather, it's my own personal edit that I edited from the awesome Shep Pettibone 12" remix that was also called "The Morning Sun Remix" in the USA. "True Faith" went to #4 on the UK Pop chart in 1987, and was also a hit in the USA, going to #32 on Billboard's Hot 100 chart and to #3 on the Dance charts...

The R&B duo composed of singer-songwriters Gene McFadden and John Whitehead had a huge hit in 1979 with this track, which went to #1 on the R&B charts and successfully crossed over to the Pop and Disco charts as well, going to #13 on Billboard's Hot 100 chart and at #10 on the Disco chart. "Ain't No Stoppin Us Now" was also a huge hit in the UK, peaking at #5 on the UK Pop chart. This was one o...

From Wikipedia: Dennis pivoted to songwriting in the 2000s and became renowned for her work, scoring eight UK number ones, winning six Ivor Novello Awards and two Grammys.[3] Her co-credits include the multi-platinum singles "Can't Get You Out of My Head" by Kylie Minogue, "Toxic" by Britney Spears, and "I Kissed a Girl" by Katy Perry. In 2004, Dennis was listed 66th in the Q list of the 100 most influential people in music. In 2006, she won the UK music industry's Woman of the Year Award.
