    Trying to fix one of these for someone. Power supply seems ok but how many voltages should it create? I have 24V I think it was. Thinking to remove amp section and replace with a 3 chan bluetooth amplifier with sub out and 2x 50W to the main. A bit over powered but it can run from the original PSU (just). I was going to suggest this to the owner and velcro it on the top / back because starting to get difficult. Looks like someone tried to replace some smd caps. can't see much else, no schematics!

    I have a Technics model SU-X911 stereo integrated amplifier as part of a stack system - it's been together since new in 1989. Recently the amp won't power up. I un plugged it and re plugged turn on it was fine. The next day the same thing, only unplugging it did not work. I fiddled a bit with the wires and came back to life. Now today it's done it again, was working for a few hours left it for an hour came back wont power up? This time nothing I try seems to bring it back to life?

    I had an intermittent problem of one speaker channel dropping out. Then fuses F901 and F902 blew. I replaced these and switched on with nothing except power connected at the back. Resistor R626 immediately fried. Transistor Q620 looks to have failed...getting 3.3ohms from between the outer legs but 220ohms on the other three (all in-situ). Is this likely to be the cause or a symptom of something else? Should I replace all the small rectangular transistors on that channel too as you say? If I end up replacing this with a used amp, maybe 5 to 10 years old, which manufacturers do you consider to be most reliable? Thanks in advance.

    • @AudioAmplifierServicing
      @AudioAmplifierServicing 7 днів тому

      Martyn from what your describing it does sound like the output transistors have failed, there may be other components in the failed channel that may also need replacing. With electronics it's if a device will fail it when. That can be due to many factors but also the component fails due to age related to it it's operational life. So I can not say a particular make or model of Amplifier is more or less reliable all have their own issues that develop over time. If your in the UK I can repair and service your Amplifier. If your not then email audioamplifierservicing@aol.com and I can provide guidance on self repair if you have experience and equipment.

      Hi, there is no inherent design issue with the Amplifier, as with all electronic equipment electronic components can fail, this can be due to numerous factors. For example how the equipment is used, the environment the equipment is working in, etc. So if your Amplifier is still working, we'll after 11 years there is no need for concern.

      @PhillGreen-qn1fl Hi as with all Amplifiers you can upgrade capacitors and install higher quality ones, typically Japanese. But often changes in Audio quality for newer Amplifiers that are re-capped may not be that noticeable and is down to the user and what they hear. For Older Amplifiers the Audio quality and reduction in noise in the power supply sections and signal processing circuits may be significant as failing capacitors are replaced with new. Hi, I have such an amplifier. It was broken. Large power transistors and their control transistors 2SA940 and 2SC2073, H669 transistors on the heat sink, and several resistors such as 0.2R 5W, 180R 2W and several smaller ones were burned. After replacing the damaged elements, the amplifier turns on but the red temp diode lights up and does not switch the relays. • @AudioAmplifierServicing
      @AudioAmplifierServicing Місяць тому

      Hi It is best not to use any solvent or liquid removal substances. Wear eye protection and use a plastic label removal tool. If the glue has dried out completely it will splinter as you remove it. Hence the eye protection. Also ensure no glue splinters fall between the legs of other components for example transistors.

So i wanted to ask you if the fan can be turned off and if so the amp wont get to hot? If you answer its all on my own risk i wont hold you responsable for any damage. The sound of this amp is very nice, nice detailed, nice bass not boombastic. Thx in advance 😊

    • @AudioAmplifierServicing
      @AudioAmplifierServicing Місяць тому

      As with many power amplifiers, there are no top case vent grills to allow for convection. Hence, the fan forces cool air across the metal heat sink and through the rear vent grill. The fan can be unplugged, or you may consider sourcing a low noise fan. If you do decide to disconnect the fan, the Amplifier does have over temperature protection, so it will prevent overheating. Heat generation is also dependent on how hard the Amplifier is being driven, so if you're not driving your Amp hard over heating may not occur.

    Hello there. Great video. I have this amplifier and for some reason the left channel has a fault where it is much quieter than the right channel. It is also crackly at times. I believe the issue might be with the balance potentiometer but im not sure why as i always have it centered and never move it. When i enable direct mode, sound is restored to both channels so this is what leads me to think that there is a mechanical fault with the balance dial. I can also pull and press the knob and this can make the left channel louder and quieter. I was wondering if it is possible to clean the potentiometer with some contact cleaner?

    I have an Arcam 8 amp that has an issue with the right channel. After replacing the MOFSETs on the right channel cause they would short they do get hot very quickly and then blowing the fuse and the MOFSETs themselves. I have checked the main diodes and they are fine. Anything else you would suggest to check? Thank you.

      @@snipperacoustics Hi its good you have bought them from CPC as you know they are Genuine originals. I would recommend making a Dim bulb tester to aid with fault finding as you will get through your newly purchased components very quickly each time you power up the Amp. This is an example ua-cam.com/video/8YWqWabXdbo/v-deo.html use a 100Watt filament bulb. Refer to the service manual and turn the bias trimmer RV101 fully Anti clockwise, then check the voltages as detailed. Does the front panel LED change to Green and does the speaker protection relay change over?

    Hi ...I have an ibiza amp 1000 that had blown outputs installed new and checked everything just wondered If you knew what mv bias should be and where to take measurement ...exactly same insides of the skytec in your video .......novice at repairing amps as u can guess

    • @AudioAmplifierServicing
      @AudioAmplifierServicing Місяць тому

      Hi, can you confirm if only one channel of the Amplifier failed. If so, you can use the other channel as a reference to set the bias. First ensure you have no speakers connected or input signal. Set the volume controls to minimum. You need to measure the millivoltage across one of the Emmiter resistors of the working channel. Make a note of the value, then measure across one of the Emitter resistors of the repaired channel and make the adjustment. The Amplifier should be powered up for 15 to 20 minutes before adjustment, so the unit can warm up and stabilise. Before proceeding with the above can you advise if you have checked all the components in the failed channel? Normally when output transistors fail there will be high current flow which will damage other components for example emitter resistors and the driver circuit. Also, only power up the Amplifier after repair via a Dim bulb tester as this will prevent failure of new parts if there is still an issue. I trust you have purchased the transistors from a reputable supplier as there are many counterfeit component sellers.

      @AudioAmplifierServicing unsure as was bought off ebay as a project...looks like they had attempted repair with different output transistors other than the ones marked on the pcb ...I had a yamaha amp that the microprocessor had failed in but the output transistors in it was fine and same as the ones that should have been in the ibiza amp hense why I didn't want to power up without checking everything those outputs are few and far between cos of fakes that are about....thanks for your reply really appreciate it , will probably just pull parts back out of it and skip it rather than blow up some perfectly good output transistors

Still there are caps thar have gone dull looking with heat so its going to get a full recap. Question if i may - you have used audio grade capacitors in many areas, the ones that were in originally are jinghai CD110 which are general purpose. If i used say panasonic FC, would they be just as good? Mouser dont have much choice just now on the 10000uf 80v caps, so this project may take a while. Again thanks for this insightful video!

    Good work finding that transistor. Wow 8mv is quite low. Does it matter if the bias is -mv or +mv for example could on a different amplifier set bias for either + or -20mv for example because with some bias pots you can go either side of zero.

    Great video! I just finished fixing my failed ZP100 repair. Similar issue, but not the same root-cause. It turned out to be a short on the secondary side board with the full wave bridge rectifier. On that board there is a 48V transient voltage suppression chip (CJ48CA SMD chip) that shorted. The secondary side of the transformer normally appears to be about 33Vrms when working. Not sure why this part failed. This was causing a short on the secondary side of the transformer. Once removed and with new fuses installed, it worked fine. I'll need to get one on my next parts order.
