How were you able to drag the islands around without any lag? When I go to drag the islands unreal freezes until I release left click and then it updates to the new position.
They will lag if PCG generation is on, since PCG will generate them again every time you move them. You can turn off PCG generation on demand and leave it only to when pressed button "generate". That should help

Bro. Is there no way to use masks from Gaea together with the UE5 water system ? It would be so mcuh better
I know that there are some 3rd party paid plugins that support that, but as afar as I know only for Ocean and you still need to do manual work for rivers etc. UE water system is bad and people been waiting for proper update for a long time. Im currently experimenting with PCG generated water, once I will have something decent will post about it.
it's extraordinary what we can achieve with the unreal engine, it's disconcertingly simple to succeed with concepts when we understand how the tools work
Geae is great addition to Unreal, hopefully one day Unreal will fix their bad landmass tools and we will not need Gaea

Yes, I just check that, my bad. I thought it was one of "free forever" assets. Apparently Unreal Sensei has auto material that is free (in gumroad it shows that you should pay bit in description he provides 100% discount code)

Hey! There are actually two ways you can do it and it really depends from your end goal. You can either just texture arm to give "cyber look" or you will need to model and rig arm from scratch. I have a course that goes over texturing part.

Could it works for actors like NPCs?
Hi! Yes, with PCG you can spawn anything, including BP actors so there is no issue with that. Probably if you want some kind of NPC respawn then I would spawn NPC spawner blueprint so it can respawn NPCs when they die since in PCG itself you would not add this kind of checks. Or you can just set NPC to fake die and fake respawn after certain time.
when you deleted the filters, it was water level filter that didnt allow you to spawn. to prevent trees in water.. also texture size is not tricky lol. if your map is 1024 you just times that by 100. so it would be 102400 or a map size of 8129 would be 812900.
Yes texture sizing thing i figure out, found that common Gaea to UE scaling is wrong and will address that in upcoming video. When it comes to min max Z it actually don't help with water at all if you have water in different heights. It's useful only when setting sea level if you don't want things to spawn in your ocean etc. There are better ways to exclude water than just trying to hard code Z limits/
I don't like that texture mask system at all..
I have new video coming up that will ease this process abit, at least until I have reworked plugin to support landscape painting.

Is there a maximum number of colors for the mask? 5? Could you beat that amount if you used black and white masks for each soil type?
I don't think there is since you can use any color you want. Probably if colors are too close could make some overlapping issues, but would need to test hat.
In the demo map, it’s implied the designers hand placed one area, then used something to capture (implied in my opinion) then replicate what they have made and generate from that. Is this another way to use this? or is loading all the assets into the graphs and data tables the only option.
Well, the BiomeCore plugin doesn't really support large worlds tbh, and placing multiple instances of BiomeCore just doesn't work. Anybody came up an idea to workaround this ?

2K is actually a small landscape, nearly everything works fluently with it. I recommend trying a 4K or 8K map scaled to 200 and 400.
@@lordrex34 yeaah I know. I'm only out here testing. I've only been using UE5 for 5 days. I'm not here to make games or that. More experiment with landscape renders etc but yeah I am going to work my way up the scale etc. I've formulated the exact scaling so what you make in Gaea is the same in Unreal. So far it works correctly 👌.

Hmmm... I am following along in 5.4 until we come to adding the attribute filter. It generates a warning stating "TargetData doesn't have target attribute/property 'Grass'. Can't proceed and not sure exactly what to do... any insight?

Hey Maris! I just wonder if there will be any chance to actually relink discord? It's not working and I'm getting to the point where my 32GB of ram cause a lot of problems with even 2x2 km world when using PCG :/ Your approach looks like it could really help me build my levels without having to restart each time my pcg is a little too big :D

If that Gaea is opened in UE5, we can say that it is inside, that Gaea is already visible in the render and that magnificent view in UE5 is visible to us.
Are you sure you're in 5.4? According to the marketplace, assets such as Norway Maple is only supported in 5.1-5.3....
You can import 5.3 assets in 5.4 project. Unless it's a plugin that has dependencies that brake in different versions, most of assets you can import in "unsupported" versions without any issues. When you get to add to project window, click Show all projects, select your 5.4 project and at the bottom set version to 5.3.

So... Would it be possible to spawn PCG (generated for example rock formation) into the data set for biome? So we'd get forest, with rock formations here and there using just one biome generation? And ofc amazing video, love that one! Was trying to build something like that myself yesterday 😂
You can use Assembly for rock formations that you can spawn along your trees. Biome Core example comes with example how they use it. It really is only extra node that passes data to spawner. Will maybe include it in my next tutorials.

Hey! I'm sorry I realize i probably misunderstood your question. I thought you asked about Biome Core plugin, you can use that only with 5.4+, but You can import 5.3 assets (like megascans trees) in 5.4 project, you can import in "unsupported" versions without any issues. When you get to add to project window, click Show all projects, select your 5.4 project and at the bottom set version to 5.3.

Make sure you did part in 17:52 where I show how to fix biomes not spawning. If height information is not overwritten it will not spawn anything under 0Z
Is there any way to make this colour distribution texture into an adjustable procedural texture? Big Brother can take a look at the new dispersion feature of the D5 renderer for a great experience and would like to implement it in UE5 as well!🎉

I would use the landscape auto material provided by Unreal Sensei. His is set up for Nanite landscape displacement and features better blending options. He also does a great job covering the options in his latest video on the subject. One thing you could do is use that blended colour and normal map generated by Gaia to tint the colour of the landscape material so it looks more natural from further away. Just need some macro variation added. Useful workflow. Thanks for sharing.

I hope its not too late to request? I have been having trouble making a stratified mesa biome? something like monument valley. I've been making the terrain in Gaea and then using 4K assets in unreal to flesh it out but I feel like I'm not using Gaea as well as i can be for that.
