Bourbon Beef Bourguignon | EASY RECIPE AMAZING FLAVOR
Get ready to cozy up with a big bowl of Bourbon Beef Bourguignon, also known as beef burgundy, or beef stew. This easy recipe with amazing flavor is basically a hearty hug in a pot! This beef stew recipe takes tender chunks of chuck roast on a flavorful journey through pancetta, pearl onions, and mushrooms, all swimming in a stew of bourbon and red wine. If you need a winter dinner party idea, this is it.
Bourbon adds a layer of flavor that a typical beef bourguignon is lacking. It's even more warming and luxurious, elevating humble ingredients to decadent bliss.
This beef bourguignon recipe serves 6 people. Easy to scale up or down, and freezes well for months. This easy recipe has amazing flavor, and is perfect for a cozy dinner party. Inspired in equal parts by Julia Child's Beouf Bourguignon and Ina Garten's Beef Stew, this recipe uses easy techniques, and ingredients you can find in most grocery stores.
It's a thick and luxurious stew that pairs perfectly with crusty sourdough, blankets, and the chill of cold weather. This is the perfect winter warmer!
INGREDIENTS FOR BOURBON BEEF STEW
3 tbs Olive Oil, divided
8 oz Diced Pancetta
8 oz Sliced White Mushrooms
14 oz Frozen Pearl Onions (thawed, patted dry)
3 lb Cubed Beef*
1 cup Flour
1 cup Bourbon or Rye, divided
3 cups dry red wine (ex: Cab, Merlot)
1 Medium yellow onion, cut into chunks
6-8 Cloves Garlic, minced or pressed (no Jarlic!)
4oz Tomato Paste
2 cups beef stock
1 pound carrots, peeled and cut into 1in lengths
2 -3 sprigs Fresh Thyme
1 cup flour
Salt and pepper
Season beef with salt & pepper, dredge in flour. *I use a chuck roast, cut into 1in cubes.
In a large dutch oven over high heat, cook pancetta until it’s browned on all sides. (4-5 min) Remove from pan and set aside.
While rendered grease is still hot, add pearl onions and brown (3-4 min), then remove from pan and set aside. Add a tablespoon of the olive oil, mushrooms, a pinch of salt and a couple turns of cracked black pepper. Sweat mushrooms until they’ve reduced in size by half (5-7 min), stirring occasionally. Remove and set aside with pancetta and onions.
Add remaining oil and brown beef in batches. Set aside. When all beef is browned, deglaze the pan with 3/4 cup of the bourbon, scraping up all the browned bits and letting liquid reduce (2min). Add thyme, onion, garlic, carrots and saute for 2-3 minutes. Stir in tomato paste, red wine, beef stock/ Bring to a simmer, occasionally stirring. Add back pancetta, beef, pearl onions & mushrooms, then put in oven to simmer for 1.5 hrs hours. Can also be done on stove top for 2 hours. Once the cooking time is up, stir in the remaining ¼ c bourbon, and add additional salt & pepper to taste. Consistency should be thick and luxurious.

So Im doing this one next with the condensed milk, so what is the shelf life on this Baileys?
OK so I just made this with real Sugar Cane Sugar, my Italian Atomic pressure coffee machine, French Roast ( on Turkish Grind) and Mount Gay Amber Rum. Over the Top! Unbelievable!
This is amazing quality channel right here. Oh and please, do a video of homemade Fireball.
Working on it! Tune in next week ;)
@@SavidgeKitchen Awesome 😁. I can't wait to see this. I just got equipped yesterday so I could try your homemade Kahlua recipe this weekend
Had an old fashioned made with that and it was like a s'mores old fashioned with a toasted marshmallow on a toothpick on the glass. That why I looked up this video! Can't wait to try it!
Sounds delicious!! Thanks for tuning in :)
I'm part of the home distilling community. With the part of the run that doesn't quite make the cut of the run of my plain tequila I either turn it into vanilla tequila or kahlua. My recipe is 95% abv home made tequila Equal parts s'mores flavored coffee (usually 12 cups) Between 1-2 cups sugar Half whole vanilla bean per bottle
I make alot of tequila. Thats why I use tequila
Too Funny, I thought you were going to choke on the Kalua, lol. Great experiment, I am going to try Bourbon. Never been a Kalua fan so I think this will be good. We too buy special dark roast kick ass coffee.
It’s really great with the bourbon- enjoy!! 🥃
Mr. Black: Vodka Espresso Martini . Yes please 🍸☕️
Concur!!
Thanks. I use fruit simple syrups to flavor my kumbuchas. I let the first ferment go to dry tasting and very active carbination. I add monk fruit extract and fruit simple syrups to the bottles with 1/2 tsp sugar per 12oz.😊
Sounds great!
Very informative
Glad you enjoyed it!
Hi! My first time here, and love the recipe! Doing a little research for later today, I scored a 4.5 lb chuck roast yesterday, and I'm thinking I'll turn it into this!
Thank you so much my wife loves this stuff
Try pineapple juice
Ultimate comfort food!
One of the things I'm most grateful for learning in a career spending a few years in restaurants, was how to braise beef from an honest to god French Chef. Short Ribs, Chuck Roasts, and Ox Tails are so flavorful. I do a similar 'pot roast' with a whole chuck roast. It's great for a gathering or party because you can cook it the day before and just heat it up and keep it in a warm oven. It's always a crowd pleaser.
Does it have to be stored in the fridge and what would the shelf life be
Yes, store this in the fridge. Good for at least several weeks, but just smell it first. If it smells wrong, it is wrong. If it smells fine, you’re good :)
Not sure I understand do you brew perked coffee or use instant coffee like is it hot then cooled? Sorry everyone says pour instant coffee in the pot they don’t add hot water to the coffee I’ve never made this and like your recipe the best just unsure ???
No worries, totally valid question! In this case, you want a cup of coffee that has been cooled. It’s totally ok to use a cup of instant coffee where you’ve dissolved instant coffee granules into a cup of hot water or you can use a cup of brewed or drip coffee.
@@SavidgeKitchen thank you so much for your kind help I love your videos and can’t wait to make these for Xmas 🎄 thank you so much
I enjoy cooking but not following recipes.. Julia Child's Beef Bourguignon was one of the first recipes I made for my wife after we were married. She probably just watched Julie and Julia, bought me the book and I followed it exactly... It wasn't that good and my wife was never impressed with me again, which sucks for her, because we were already contractually obligated with the whole marriage thing... A decade later, this year, I made Beef Bourguignon again and it was so much better... Just made stew this weekend for my longest-tenured friends... they think I just put it in a slow cooker for the whole day, but I made it the day before and spent so much time, because it is a labor of love for these people... Bourbon 100% next time, will give this a shot if we ever get snow again...
Ah Yes, the stew labor of love. Just gets better with time ;)
groovy
I made this with condensed coconut milk, Elmlea Plant Cream and a teaspoon of vanilla extract, a shot of espresso instead of instant coffee and everything else the same……OMG! So gooooooooooooood!! ❤
Sounds fantastic!
That pop was perfect!
Or if your Gramom was dining with you - a cool summer meal lol.
Looks fabulous. I could nearly smell it by the time you were done! Will definitely do this, now that stew season is here 😄
Yes!! This is the perfect winter warmer, and definitely a crowd pleaser. Let me know how it goes!! 🥃
@SavidgeKitchen I will (although I'm pretty sure it'll be amazing, already!).
Hi, I just found your channel and I’m in love with it and your style!🥰 I’m planning to make this liqueur for my boyfriend, who is an absolute coffee lover. Do you think I could use Bacardi Oakheart for it?
Thank you so much! I really appreciate the support ☺️ And yes, you could absolutely use that. It will probably lend the oak notes you’d get from bourbon, but with the rum profile. But then again, you might want to save that bottle for sipping on its own! 😂 Let me know how it goes!!
Thank you so much for the quick response!☺️🫶🏼 I’ll definitely give it a try and keep you updated! I'm really excited to try the recipe, even though I've never made liqueur before :D
What cinnamon did you end up using? I like Ceylon, it has a subtle lemon flavor. I heard that nutmeg is added to Rum chata.
If I remember correctly, I think I used the Ceylon here. But I’ve done both, and both are wonderful! Cheers :)
@SavidgeKitchen Thank you very much. I want to try it. Your recipe is great, thank you. I read that chufa nuts should be used, but they can be replaced with a mixture of almonds and Brazil nuts with water. Vanilla is not Bourbon, but Tahiti. I love Ceylon cinnamon. It is healthier and smells like flowers and fruits, but cassia has a warm smell of childhood and baking.
Where do get the bottles?
How long will this keep?
this looks so easy and so yummy. does this recipe have to sit for awhile or can it be consumed right away?
You can enjoy it right away!! 🥃
After watching 14 videos THIS IS the BESTIST Canadian Eh very informative WELL DONE young lady you get a 10 for this 👌
Thank you for tuning in! Glad you enjoyed it 🥃
I keep a small bottle of fireball on hand only for when I get sick. I have asthma and I get bronchitis a lot, I go through a lot of fireball during those times lol
Excellent home remedy 😂
I tried the Pumpkin Spiced Cider, but I added Hard Cider
How’d you like it? Sounds like a good addition!!
☺☺☺☺
These look great! The glass for the first mocktail is awesome!
Isn’t that fun?? I found it at World Market. Pumpkin vibes, but maybe good for a pearl diver too!
I´m in love with this woman!
I can attest that the Savidge Kitchen Pumpkin Spice syrup is delish!
It really is, isn’t it?! Cocktails, yes. Pancakes, BIGGER YES
When cutting into a blood orange you know your successful if the kitchen looks like a murder scene... Just saying :P Don't have any blood orange but I will be making the pumpkin spice marg to have while handing out treats! And well I have a ceramic pumpkin mug so that is easy ;D
Those oranges were just dressed up as blood oranges for Halloween 🎃 😂
@@SavidgeKitchen that was the trick :P
Great drinks! Love pumpkin spice drinks this time of year! That Old Fashioned looks amazing! Thanks for the shoutout! Cheers! 🎃🥃
Tis the season!! And thanks for having a great Allspice Dram recipe! 🥃🧡
Terrific recipe.
Thank you so much! Enjoy!!
Both this recipe and the chocolate one could add one clove with the cool down of the syrup. Cloves are really strong but this would encase the deep chocolate syrup significantly I think. Something to think about
If you enjoy the flavor of cloves, absolutely! Personally, I don’t think they’re going to enhance the chocolate flavor as much as introduce a spice flavor. Cloves are extremely distinct and stand alone in flavor. But that’s not a bad thing!! Let me know if you try it!
Just made this AGAIN! Went w/almond extract, followed recipe, blended, then poured into glass bottle to chill in refrigerator for a bit. Impatience overpowered me, so I poured some over scoop of ice cubes, ready to watch BritBox 😜😋 LOVELY! AGREED! Comforting!! MAHALO! 🙏🏻
Boy, what an excellent communicator and reviewer. Thank you.
Thank you so much! I appreciate the feedback!
I subbed evaporated milk for the dairy and made a more shelf stable version that was delicious. Also used Jameson cold brew.
You have an amazing pallet and I consider you a master chef in beverages. Made your recipe with the Fireball and it exceeds the real thing. Used gifted 50% mountain brandy for the alcohol base, so the liquor was a bit higher in proof (+/- 25%) , and yes, it is the bomb! This goes in my recipe book.
What a lovely compliment, thank you so much! Glad you tried the recipe!!
I tried to make the brown sugar version, but it didn't thicken much at all. How long do you let it boil and then simmer?
I’m going to try making this low carb. Evaporated milk instead of condensed milk, brown sugar swerve, and slightly watered down heavy cream(from shelf-stable powder). I’ll compare carbs between whiskey and NA whiskey. Another commenter suggested this recipe is as costly as Bailey’s, or more so. I’m reading responses to a comment about making this NA, such as hot sauce to replace the whisky’s kick.
Curious to hear how it goes! The texture will definitely be different, but different is ok! I love when people make adjustments that work for their particular tastes :)
Bailey's is awesome in a hot cup of coffee in the winter time tasting awesome and warms you up. Probably would be good in hot cocoa also❤
ah nonino lindu
What do you think about using Mexican vanilla?
Love it. I personally use it often when I’m baking, so I’m sure it would be good here too.
Cassia cinnamon is a different variety of tree to what we know as Saigon cinnamon. Former is Chinese, while the later is central Vietnam. They are close, but are distinct. There's 10 cinnamon varieties, and we only care about 4 of these really.
That eerck and jerk😂😂E&J
