Wiregrass Hobby Farming
Приєднався 22 січ 2020
Here at Taylor Bend Farm I'm doing what I love to do. Aircraft avionics by day, farming the rest of the time. Hobby farming has been an interesting journey since I didn't grow up as a "farmer." I grew up in Midwestern farming communities and worked a farming related job as a teenager, but not a real farmer. Several years of learning the hard way created quite a store of knowledge and experience. If you're in the Wiregrass area and need help with your small acreage operation, send me an email or comment on the videos. I'd love to help.

Seasoned Firewood vs. Fresh Firewood
Переглядів 506Рік тому
How you too can tell the difference between seasoned and fresh firewood. This seasoned stuff shown here is about 8 months seasoned. Beware of stuff called "seasoned in the round," which means they didn't split it for a long time after they cut it. Not a great idea, you have to split it and expose the grains to dry it out quickly or it will retain moisture and begin to rot. That's the whole poin...

Working John Deere 330 Round Baler

I've been restoring this old 330 baler from an auction all summer, and I think its finally ready to go bale. Its been an experience. One of the tension rollers was shattered, several bearings were shot, tension arms were almost wore through, pickup teeth were gone, cylinders were leaking, gear box needed new seals, bale size alarm was broken, driveline was siezed up, and probably something else...

Which line is the drain line that’s referenced in the article you linked?
The fat line is the drain line.
@@bignatehobbyfarm awesome thank you for the quick reply
I just got back from the range and mine never cycled and jammed up several times. Can you give me any advice
I cannot. Sorry.
Had the same issue on our state tractor case ih 585
This man gets it
Thank you so much! I have been struggling with a freakish brake bleed malfunction problem. This would seem to explain it all thought I have an older version of the reservoir on a 784. I cant wait to check this out in the morning!
Purchased my last week. Have not shot it yet. What type of oil are you guys using?
Rem Oil
Thanks, from Cornwall UK
April 24 it’s 250.00
We just hired a guy to put in 1250' of 6 strand barb wire fence. Had some brush, mesquite, etc as it is just unimproved cow pasture. We put double H post on all the high and low spots. The double H assemblies are 24' which includes the kickers on each end. Post are 2 7/8" pipe, 8' tall and in the ground 3'. They are 6' apart with the "h" pipes. The kickers on each end are set 6' out also, with a short pipe set in ground for bracing, all in concrete. Each end of the run has a similar set up for the corners. By setting the H's on high and low spots, we were able to pull fence wires with no problem, and no perceived leverage of wire trying to pull the pipe out of the ground. Also pet Tee post on 10' centers and 2 wire stays inbetween each. Run us about $7,000. Your mileage may vary. ;)
Thank you! I lost all brakes on my Case IH 895xl. Took it apart to day, and indeed the steel pipes had slid down on both return and pressure side. Thank you from Norway!
It jammed 🤷
I hear everyone say hi velocity 12 gauge shells only
Thanks for the great video. I will tear into the system and see what happens. Great help.
What ammo everyone using on your emperor arms cobra 12 gauge
Anything over 1250fps should work just fine. A lot of target and birdshot ammo will be just under that though.
Thank you !! first time it was ever shown properly really appreciate it.
How far back in should it be pushed? The metal pipes to the reservoir
The metal tube should be flush with the bottom edge of the plastic nipple
Thank you very much for your reply
I want to say thank you for doing this video, I had the same problem and with your video I now have plenty of brake now, thank you again
You, sir are the finest of men! Cannot say thank you enough for your creating this video.
Got one last year... oiled it up never misses a beat...price is perferct...thank you Turkey...well done👍👍🤜🤜
Do you wear mask and gloves when you put down. Just payed 250.00 for 25 pound bag. Thank you Biden!
No. It's not dusty. I'm sure gloves wouldn't hurt though.
@@bignatehobbyfarm thank you.
I would assume the terrace was put in for crops. If you are doing only hay or pasture I wouldn’t think you needed them anymore, no erosion with established grass.
Yes, when we bought the land it had years old corn residue on it. I worked the terraces for months with an 8' box blade to make them more friendly to a hay rake, but in the end that's a serious amount of dirt to move. Plus you still have to keep it friendly to water run off.
You in Dothan
That is some potent fertilizer. We use triple 17. We sprayed Grazon a month before the first cutting. It worked well on the second two weeks ago and so far still good waiting on the third.
I thought so too, but I guess the application rate brings down the potency of it, plus Bahia grass can tolerate a higher N application
Comment avoir la machine
Hi,I'm considering purchasing one of these. How did it work out? Would you buy it again if you had it to do over again?
If you have a small tractor with small acreage, it works great. The working width is more like 5'. So if you work more than 5 acres you'll be out there on the tractor for quite a while. I've since upgraded to larger equipment, where are you located? I might sell mine....
Stay away from Summit Hydraulics kits. I ordered one for my John Deere third function. Daul remotes kit came with missing parts. Terrible instructions save your money just go with the dealer part.
I've had a really positive experience with this kit so far. I've used it extensively with the grapple on the front of my tractor doing everything from cow hay waste to ripping out privet brush and clearing land. The only issue I've encountered was an O-Ring failing on a hydraulic line connection.
My cows are doubting the quality of your grass. They are requesting 2 free round samples. It does look good.
Thanks for the information mine was out further than yours but now I have brakes!!!
just got one myself yesterday i love it so far and the price was nice too
Looking at buying one. Don’t see part 2. Do you still recommend this sprayer?
The bale size sensor’s connected to the actuator, or the wires just run parallel in the same loom ?
It's a mechanical bale size sensor linked to the tension arm. It's very rudimentary but reliable. No wires involved.
@@bignatehobbyfarm and it just runs to the buzzer right ?
@@jeffjones9727 the buzzer is a simple switch situated on a bracket connected to the left side tension arm. I wired it to a buzzer on my little control box
How does it feed the string I'm Interested in doin this
Like any information u can give me
Hey, I know it's been a while since you made this video, but I wanted to see how your fire ant problem was going, if you have had to do it every year or is it every other year thing or..... ? I just bought 2 25lb bags at over $200 each so, it's going to be like spreading gold...lol. Thanks!
Yes it is expensive, and I've found out recently that it needs to be used within the season you buy it because it goes bad. Well, not really bad but the effective ingredient that keeps them gone for a long time peters out. I spread some old stuff this spring and it worked for a little bit, but now they've all come back. Normally, if I apply early spring I won't have to apply again until early fall/late summer. So count on 1-2 applications a year.
@@bignatehobbyfarm Ok, wanted to double check... I assume it kills the mounds in the areas you treat but they come back because the surrounding areas are infested? One thing I didn't want is to use something that just drove them out and didn't kill them.
@@rogerr1296 so, it's a blanket treatment you apply to your entire property. I don't know why or how they eventually come back, but they do. And it's with a vengeance too, it won't be just a mound here or there near the edges of your property. It's like they come back all within a week and they're all over the place. Just treat again.
I was told by my arms dealer to not put anything in there that's less than 1300+fps
Everybody's got their opinion on this
How is the Tedder holding up. Do have any other agrisupply equipment
Chipper shredder works great!
Can I buy?
Will the latex paint seep into the soil, then seep into roots and plants. Thanks in advance. I want use your idea. Best one yet. And I've been researching.
It's exterior latex paint. Should be sturdy enough to stand up to the elements for several years.
You're absolutely right no info on this at all, even in the maintenance manual there is a blank on the brake system, thank you so much from Cornwall England
I was wondering how I was going to keep my pots safe from hubby cutting the grass. This is it! Thank you!!💜
I just got one and the guy was telling me not to use short brass rounds with this brand cause it doesn’t like to cycle them well
That’s what I was told too
I'm needing to get a 3rd function kit. How does the Summit compare to the Land Pride? Great video.
I have nothing to compare it to. Never tried a different brand.
No more boring 12 bore, love the new shotgun AR stile design, shoot like crazy.
Brilliant! I purchased 10 pots last year and held on to them, while searching you tube for a way to best utilize them. This is it!!! Now I plant. Thank you sooooo much!
Thank you sooooo much for this great video. I followed your instructions and got the brakes working on our Case International 885. Everything was exactly as you described. Thanks from Ireland.
Just got one those beasts straight out the box no extra oil shot 20 ends flawless just shoot shells over 1250 velocity
Hey hobby farmer, lets see you make some lye soap!!
I was actually considering that and candles. Because after Russia nukes the hell out of us, we'll need both.
Would be interested in more details and link to actual actuator used, may do this on a 335 baler.
Here you go: ECO-WORTHY 12 Volt 10 Inch Stroke Linear Actuator Heavy Duty 330lbs Maximum Lift with Mounting Brackets a.co/d/d5RrUgf
thanks for the vid my first 395 job and you helped me out
So how is the grain grinder working now?
Haven't used it yet this season, don't have any reason to think it's bad though
Hi brass only!
