Catfish Lunch Platter @ Dave's Seafood & Subs, Chantilly, VA #food #friedcatfish #chantilly #seafood
WHAT I ATE - VIRGINIA
@ Dave's Seafood and Subs
Chantilly, VA
Another weekday solo lunch. Susan and I are both at work, so we don't have time to meet up for lunch.
I went to my favorite place for fried wings, but this time I changed it up a bit to try their Fried Catfish. The fries are solidly crispy on the outside and fluffy and tasty on the inside. The Mac an Cheese is warm and tasty, but I prefer a drier mac and cheese, not the saucy style they serve here.
Next time, I'll go for fried rice or coleslaw as a side.
Staff is always friendly and the restaurant is clean and inviting. Other items I've had that are good are the fried shrimp and whiting.
The restaurant is easy to access from the freeway and close to a lot of hotels in the area, as well as Dulles Airport.
One day, I'll have to try breakfast here.

Hello Bill . . . . those fried catfish filets look absolutely amazing . . . even before you mentioned it, i was already thinking how good they would be on a hoagie roll with tartar sauce and some rings of raw onion . . . that's the way my favorite barbecue joint makes their fried catfish subs . . . they also make a great mac and cheese using white cheddar sauce . . . it's a terrific side to go along with their catfish - - my usual order is 2 or 3 pieces of fried catfish, fried okra, mac and cheese, texas toast, and sweet tea . . . now that's some good eating . . . say "hello" to Susan . . . . . ya'll have a good week !!!!!!!!!!!! . . . . . . . Thanks for stopping by, and congratulations on your son's military career. My tip is to make sure he documents all medical problems while he is still in active service. 20 years goes by fast! A fall or sprain can affect him in old age. Especially while on active duty, he would have to prove problems arising in old age are service connected. And the military keeps everything! When I requested my full medical record, they gave me a DVD that even had a Sick-Call-Slip from 1985 when I banged up a knee while moving refrigerators into our barracks! Anyway. I'm just discovering the Kalihi area. Susan grew up in that area, so she keeps me outta trouble! Mahalos for your comments and support of our channel! - Bill and Susan

We re-gifted it to a Filipino Hawaiian friend here in DC, and we never tried it til may 10 years later. That stuff is awesome! As for Filipino beer, my teamchief got me onto Red Horse. When my squad deployed to Clark AFB, he had unfortunately broken his leg and couldn't join us. I was able to stash a 6-pack into my gear for him on our return trip. Shoulda seen a grown man cry! I know what you mean. But each has it's place depending on what we're craving. Asian places are great for the flavors and cooking style. The steakhouses are nice on occasion for simplicity of the preparation. In addition to the atmosphere, everything is prepared for minimal fuss. ie. I'm not shredding my thumbs trying to crack open a lobster knuckle. Also gotta balance enjoying the food vs. trying to eat so much at an AYCE. Thanks for your input! -Bill

The demographcs of the area is changing. A lot of the good old Chinese places from the 60s have gone away to make room for the booming Korean population second only to the Indian community. The Vietnamese have also been moving in and there is a grown Middle Eastern and African population too. Hawaiian styl restaurants have started popping up too. There was a great place, Momo and Poke that opened up a few years ago, but the owner unfortunately passed away last year. We see a bit of an Ethiopian neighborhood growing in Arlington. We tried that a few years ago at an Ethiopian Cafe Bakery for brunch, but didn't know what to order and ended up eating about $40 worth of breadcrumbs prepared in a number of flavorful ways... Eh, we'll give Ethiopian another try one day.. Anyway, the Shishkabob Express is nice when we don't know what to eat, or too busy to cook dinner. -Bill and Susan

Hey! Thanks for stopping by! We were going to Kim's Diner - 7823a Parston Dr, Forestville, MD 20747. Whenever I go for a haircut at Andrews AFB on a Saturday, we stop there for breakfast. The food is simple, good quality and reasonably priced. We get eggs with fried fish, or fried porkchops served over white bread with some hotsauce. Their grits are always nice and creamy. Coffee is not so good, but it does the job. I think the locals like it there too, even though it's literally a hole in the wall. There's always a bit of line when we go, maybe just 3 or 4 customers deep. They're closed on Sunday. If they're not open, we go to the Forest Square Deli as our alternate. Thanks again for your support! - Bill and Susan

Janet, Thanks for your concern! The hand trembling started about 2 years ago. My doctor at the VA thinks it's just dehydration and old age. I've also noticed it increases if my blood sugar is low. I suspect it might also have something to do with heart medication I was prescribed about the same time. But my cardiologist discounts that. I'm also seeing another cardiologist for a second opinion. Thoughts in my mind run to Traumatic Brain Injury from a parachute accident I had while jumping from CH-47s at Camp Helamanu in 1986 (Chute failed to open, then my reserve parachute got tangled around my legs. By the time I got that untangled and snapped back upright, I was very low to the ground before it opened and I had a very hard landing!). Also, as a deer hunter, I worry about Cruchfield-Jacobs syndrome in deer (Mad Cow disease that primarily affects deer populations on the Mainland, and can transfer to humans who eat them). Or early onset Parkinson's. So there are a number of vectors I'm investigating. We'll see... Thanks again for your concern! -Bill

(Long walks are good for helping with that) Same time as the trembling, I'd also gotten some red spots on my face. Again, doctors not sure why.
