When The Mountains Call
United Kingdom
Приєднався 20 сер 2023
When The Mountains Call - Just a place for us to share some of our adventures in the UK mountains and other wild places. We are based in the North West of England so most of our walking is in and around the Lake District. However we also love trips up to the Scottish Highlands and also the odd trip down to Wales.
With our trusty mountain dog Toby, we will try and show you some of the beautiful places we visit and sights we enjoy. We are making our way through the Wainwrights but it's not just about ticking off hills, whenever somewhere new presents itself we're always happy for another adventure and love getting to know the UK's wild places.

Knockan Crag Near Ullapool - Come With Us On A Journey Through Time
This time on we were doing a shorter walk than our usual ones. While on holiday up in the North of Scotland we were exploring Assynt. Having had some foul weather in the morning we just wanted a short walk somewhere interesting, step forward Knockan Crag.
Only twenty minutes north of Ullapool, Knockan Crag is a great little walk with some very impressive views. Along with that it has lots of detailed information about the Geology of the local area, which is truly fascinating.
The walk was only around an mile and and half but with an epic viewpoint over looking the stunning mountains of Assynt, this place is certainly somewhere we would highly recommend if you have a spare hour or two while in the Ullapool area of the Highlands of Scotland.

This time on when the mountains call we were once again up in Scotland. This was now the second week of our holiday in the Highlands and we were spending the week with some friends staying in a big cottage on the banks of Loch Tay. Right behind our cottage sat the 10th highest mountain in all of Scotland and the UK. The very impressive looking Ben Lawers. So on a day when the weather looked to ...

This time on WhenTheMountainsCall we were back up in Scotland taking on a lesser known mountain with a secret ridge that quite simply blew us away. Then on to a viewpoint that has to be up there as one of the best anywhere in Scotland. While spending the week staying in Lochinver we were keen to tackle some of Assynt's more spectacular mountains. Ben More Coigach is one that many people tend to...
Exploring Quinag, One Of Scotland's Most Underrated Mountains!
Переглядів 429Місяць тому
For this adventure we were back in the far North of Scotland in beautiful Assynt. This is one of our favourite areas and the fifth time we've been here. Having previously done Suilven and Stac Pollaidh in this area, Quinag had been on our hit list for quite a while. However, after being thwarted on our two previous attempts, this year the weather was finally in our favour and we were ready for ...
Walking the Howgills from Tebay to Sedbergh. The Lake District's best kept secret?
Переглядів 314Місяць тому
Today we we're just outside the Lake District on a range of hills that often gets overlooked. The Howgill Fells are the hills to the right as you head up the M6 past Kendall on the way to Penrith and beyond. We first ventured into these hills a few years back and were very impressed by how wild and remote they feel despite being fairly close to the M6. While walking some of the southern fells i...

This time on WhenTheMountainsCall we were a bit closer to home in good old Lancashire. As we finally had some sunshine we were out for an evening walk up Fair Snape Fell. This is a hill about 30 mins from our house but it's one we can actually see from home in the distance. So it's always a nice hill to do and it has some spectacular views out across North West Lancashire. On this particular da...

Awesome scenery that and nicely shot..
@@TBCamping thanks for watching, was a beautiful place. 👍🏼
Superb video Andy. My fav area Assynt, away from the munro,s so usually quiet, Suilven being top of my list.
Thanks Steve, yes Assynt is an amazing place. We did Suilven a few years ago on our very first trip to Assynt, have loved the place ever since. Thanks for watching, appreciate it. Andy
Looks like a great location 👍🙂
Thanks for this. My whippet and I travelled the roads of Scotland for five years and spent more time driving (and enjoying it) than we did walking. We've settled now in Dunoon for a number of reasons (age mostly, me not him, although he is ten now). Many good memories and images. Thanks again.
@@digitalimager4946 aww that’s nice. My wife and I actually got married in Dunoon so that’s a special place for us. Thanks for watching the vid, really appreciate it. Andy
Nothing 👍🙂
Mine would be skyrim
@@maciejewskaanna7231 that’s a good one
At the start of each Munro me and my brother would always listen to Misty Mountains cold and right at the end we'd put on Concerning Hobbits. Its become tradition at this point and certainly adds to the epicness!
Is that Ben Nevis...? I wonder 🤔
Is that Ben Nevis...? I wonder 🤔
@@kirkgallacher9144 no sorry, not even close.
Nice 👍🙂

If it’s a secret, why are you putting it online?
@@Jarv263 so others can enjoy the beauty. I only found out about this from someone else posting it, and I’m very grateful they did.
Hi pal. I watched this yesterday. Sorry forgot to comment yesterday lol. Anyway. Fantastic video. Absolutely love your drone footage. Well done. Thanks for the mention. Am gonna try and come down to the Lake District next year sometime. When I do ill give you a shout to see if you are free. ATVB Alan
Thanks Alan, we were lucky to get the drone up on Beinn Ghlas before the mist came down, tried flying it on top of Ben Lawers but it was to windy. Thanks for watching. Andy
Wow!! Amazing landscape ❤️❤️❤️
👏🌟. It's cool to see how it turns out! You always create amazing videos, my friend.🤩🤩🤩
Awesome footage and great editing. Those views are unreal. Just subscribed from a fellow UA-camr 😉👍
@@PhilDodsworthOutandAbout thanks Phil, it really was an amazing place.
No problem 👍
Would have loved to see those land masses being formed...mesmerizing 😮
@@caddysouth8401 yes that would of been incredible!
I don't know 😕..but l love 💕 it....❤❤🎉🎉
😢Lovely video of ur hike with stunning views from the summit.Assynt is a place I have not really explored except for the 2 munros.😃👍
@@AndyOB it’s amazing, ironically the two munros are probably the worst mountains there. Suilven, Quinah, Stac Pollaidh, all incredible! Thanks for watching.
Fantasy lands! Epic! Thank you for sharing.
Absolutely stunning video. Really enjoyed that. Looked like a spectacular walk. The ridge looked awesome. Well done. ATVB Alan
@@MyScottishAdventures thanks Alan, it was an incredible walk. I’ve almost finished editing the Ben Lawers footage, I’ll let you know when I upload that one.
Great views for sure. Thanks 👍🙂
Nice again. Subbed.👍🙂

Brilliant day for it, with beautiful views. Cracking group of mountains.
Really is a stunning place, thanks for watching, appreciate it.
stunning views...not been up for several years now...i need to get back
@@atrampinthehills.841 it’s an incredible place, those views blew us away
Breath-taking footage! How about including a little map at the start of the vid so we know where you are? Just a suggestion 🙂
@@runnymederangers hi, thanks for the suggestion and watching. I’d love to include a map with some graphics but am not sure how to do it while avoiding copyright laws. I’ve been told I can’t use OS maps as they break t&c’s. I’d love to know how to add a map as you’re right, it would help people know where we are.
lovely video - it that pair of old sea eagles still living near that odd promontory. a fine series of corbets. atb
@@richardpegg9265 thanks, and thanks for watching. We did see a sea eagle in this area last year. Not this time round though.
Mars bar half way up a 22 year old?

What a video Andy pal. The views looked incredible. I have a bucketlist of mountains i want to do even if i can't get all the munros. This is now added to my bucketlist. Thanks for sharing what looks incredible. Well done to you Michelle and Toby. ATVB Alan
@@MyScottishAdventures thanks Alan. This was the before me met you on Ben Lawers. Assynt really is an incredible place, the mountains arnt as big, I think there’s only two Munros but it’s still incredible. The next vid I’ll be doing is up there two, amazing scenery. Thanks for giving it a watch. 👍🏼
Cool...when i saw the moon above the first top i thought...WOW..i must do this, it's now on my list
@@atrampinthehills.841 you won’t be disappointed. It’s a stunning area, just a shame it so far away. Thanks for watching. Andy
Lovely video and the drone footage is amazing 🤩 This has been on my to do list for a while & good to see your wee dog managed too. Think it will be next year now for us. Assynt is one of my favourite places. ❤
@@LindaOutdoors it’s a stunning place and well worth the effort to get to. Yes our little dog Toby is a star, although his paws were a bit sore after, as were our feet 🤣. Thanks for watching, always appreciate it.
Really nice video. I really need to get down their at some point to do my first wainwright. Take care Alan
I really enjoyed this. That day I was down Wasdale completing my final Wainwright up Kirk Fell and it was heaving down there. I always look at the Howgills when driving that part of the M6. They look stunning. I was admiring them from over Selside 5 weeks ago. You know your video has wetted my appetite to do these now. Fantastic footage and the drone shots just wow
@@Avalon041167 oh wow, congrats on completing the Wainwrights! Thats quite an achievement. We’re currently working our way through them as well, we’re at 90. Thanks for watching, always appreciate it. And yes, the Howgills are well worth a visit, love the solitude you get there something that’s harder to find the other side of the M6 on the more popular fells.
Beautiful🌅💛
Good video. I just went last week for the first time. Loved it.
Really nice vid, cracking views. 😊👍
@@Themaysoutdoors61 thanks, was a fantastic walk!

What a lovely area to live, must be great to have this on your doorstep..never been to Fair snape hill, in fact we have only ever walked in the Bowland area once... must get up there sometime...
@@atrampinthehills.841 we live in Blackburn which isn’t very nice, but all these lovely places are only a short drive away, so we are lucky really. Thanks for giving it a watch 😀

@@Simonjburgess my heart sank when I heard the clatter. Happily some gorilla glue has fixed it and it’s flying like a dream again 😁
@@WhenTheMountainsCall well done!
Really nice video on two normally 'quiet' fells. thanks. Terrific day in what has overall been a dreadful spring and summer for weather. I have always walked them from the Orthwaite side so it was good to see the walk from Mosedale. I really like these fells behind Skiddaw and live within sight of them and don't see them as bleak but everyone to their own. Will watch out for your next walk.
@@gbfch thanks for watching. And your right, bleak is probably not the right word. They actually have their own beauty and we have always enjoyed any time we’ve spent there. You’re very lucky to live so close to them 😀
Nice to have a little camp like that in the woods and what a cracking day to be out too, looked so relaxing. Not keen on a boil in a bad but to be fair that one did sound nice and even better what it tasted nice as well. Cheers Alan
