Hydraulic side loading homemade log trailer
I live in northwest Pennsylvania. And i heat my house with wood. I deal with red and white oak rounds. Typically in that 16-24in diameter. I wonder if this 8ton splitter would be enough to take them on.
It'll do fine. Since this video, I've split much hickory, maple, beech, and oak.... it does fine
I love watching you split wood with that split fire
@bendaniel2334 Thanks Ben!
Good job. I curious how and why your log delivery guy halved or quartered some of the logs.
Hickory breaks pretty easily when felling. It's under a lot of internal tension and stress.... sometimes will "barber chair" badly
Nice video as usual! I have a Kioti tractor as well, 65hp really like it, I sold the same ford tractor like yours.. What kind of grapple is that ?
@@russellbelliveau1694 Thanks! It's a Titan
I’m looking at a hakki palki 45 pro. That log lift is bad ass!!
@MicroManExcavation Great machine. Thanks! I built that around 10 years ago, still going strong. I'm in the process of building a log deck for it, to speed up the whole process. Or maybe I'll find a used one 🤔
For the price of the machine its great but always able to improve
Great modification. I hope they are watching!
Very nice addition to your other mods . Hopefully spitfire is paying attention ..👍🏻🇺🇸
good vid dood!!!

Very kool idea .. more functional than the foot pedal... I like it!!
It is looking like splitfire should have sent you a pre-production machine to get input.
I wish! Maybe they still will?!
Genius ! I see how that would be tipsy with heavy blocks, thanks for sharing, when I get my machine this gives me so many great ideas ahead of time. Keep the videos coming on this machine. Great work( nice welds btw)
@@russellbelliveau1694 Thanks much!
Great idea, your definitely getting that machine dialed in, I agree with the comment above, they should have had you demo the prototype 😂
Looks great!
@thelogfather5002 Thank you sir.
Very impressive for a homeowner grade splitter. It definitely fills a void in the market between what the average homeowner needs in a vertical splitter versus the industrial/commercial grade machines from companies like Wolfe Ridge and Eastonmade.
@@thefirewooddoctor I like the positivity! It costs less than 25% of either of those machines. So....
I heard from a fellow UA-camr that they are getting an 1165V with a FACTORY option sinilar to yours instead of the foot pedal that most vertical splitters use. Is supposed to be available as a retrofit kit once Split-Fire releases it. Am surprised how fast this splitter is. If was doing firewood only for myself for campfires and such, this is the splitter I would get.
Thanks! Jump to the top and read the pinned comment. I've got several mods to show on this... more to come
@@dereksstuff8395 just read that pinned comment. For this size of splitter, a foot control doesn't make a lot of sense.
You beat us to the punch! And you made something VERY similar to our prototype. We are planning on calling the control a 'knee control.' We are going to include a cushion for the knee and are also trying to integrate a cable instead of a linkage system. Yours is also a bit higher than we would mount ours. We think the knee control is safer then a foot control, especially after seeing foot control operators freeze up when their hand gets caught(causing more damage). With the knee control, we are hoping that the operator can escape the danger much faster, or avoid it all together. We are close to finishing up, the only major task that remains is testing the components real world function and safety. Overall, you have done a great job. Excellent fab work, and congratulations for beating us at our own game!
@SplitFireSalesInc THANK SO MUCH! That's great! Many people have asked. I enjoy fabrication and am looking to make the knee control adjustable vertically, would be very simple I think. I chose not to use a cable approach because cables that are mounted vertically tend to get moisture in and freeze. (Unless covered well) I really am enjoying this splitter, and it's simplicity/effectiveness. Keep up the good work. I have a couple more mods
@@SplitFireSalesInc Feel free to join in the comments and answer a few questions. Really great group of folks
@@dereksstuff8395 Cool! Yes that would be a nice feature. Yes we have to do some testing with the cable. It is high quality, but is still prone to the typical issues. We are happy you are! It looks like you are running a lot of volume through it! Looking forward to seeing it!
Very cool!
Thanks!
Good job. Hopefully Splitfire will take some pointers!
That’s an awesome splitter and your modifications make it even better, keep up the good work!
@@765Guys Thanks so much!
awesome! I hope the folks at Split-Fire see this video and get some ideas! Thanks for sharing this! The more I see this little splitter the more I like it. My only concern is that I regularly deal with large, tree-service wood and I'd like to be able to work with a 30" round on the splitting table. Is it easy to remove that bumper/guard on the front? (if so, then I could put larger rounds on there, just overhang a few inches)
@FirewoodInTheField Thanks! The front comes off with just a few bolts. I'm going to make a video on how easy it could tip over, and what I did to combat that! Very simple mod.
@@dereksstuff8395 Looking forward to it!
Well done! If there was a dealer close to me I would buy one.
@hayesrutherford9415 Thanks so much! I bought mine over the phone and they shipped it to me.
@@dereksstuff8395 I think shipping to Idaho might be more than the splitter.
@@hayesrutherford9415 Everything is expensive, for sure. There's a shipping calculator on their website.

That’s a game changer buddy. Sorry to hear about your foot but stoked you figured out how to adapt. Made that splitter even better. Have a great day bud God Bless 👍

@@cutNdryfirewood Thanks! Lots more to come
Very interesting, that’s a great design. When I ordered mine they said they were looking into something different. I was thinking the same for the hitch it’s too low, good job on that.
@@russellbelliveau1694 Thank you good sir
Good job! Simple but works good. Does it feel more or less safe with the new control?
@@southernadirondackoutdoors Thanks! Easy and safer for sure
I think you’re the only one I’ve found on UA-cam with this vertical 1165, thanks for all the info very helpful!
@@Mikepace001 Of course! More to come, I love this machine and will be making some mods
Your new splitter would make kindling quicker you can imagine. Use the round squaring system for great results...
@@jamessanders4310 That would certainly make quick work of it! Thanks so much!
If you were looking for speed you should have got a kinetic spliter.
@@garryverniest5893 I get it.... they are fast. What do you have?
I disagree on that one. This splitter is a step faster and efficient than a kinetic splitter. The Axis and 17VS would blow a kinetic splitter out of the water because their knives are bigger and can consistently split three slabs at a time. It takes about 10 to 12 seconds to quarter up a round with a kinetic splitter as opposed to six or seven with this vertical splitter.
I like the cycle time, probably due to the small diameter cylinder. Perfect for what it is , but experience is essential due to distance from hands to blade so NO distractions or speaking with operator when working.
@@olduhfguy It's a great design, with good speed. Pretty simple machine honestly
That splitter is awesome i just dont like how high the lever is. I wish they did a foot pedal or something
@Dorchwoods I thought I'd hate it, but it's working OK. I'll fabricate a foot pedal for it. I'll post when it's ready for showing
Awesome. Thanks for posting this!
How is oak to split compared to beach or elm ?
About the same
How much is shipping?
@@bradjenkins932 For me here in NY, it was less than $200
@@dereksstuff8395 I'm in OH. Thanks.
Thanks for posting these videos!! Making me rethink my long term plans/goal to get a 17VS (wolf ridge) If you ever get a chance to put some fresh cut Oak rounds, maybe 20-24" in diameter through it I'd be really interested to see how it does.
@FirewoodInTheField I sure can. I have plenty of oak to run through it. If it'll run hickory, it'll run oak.
The log lift probably isn't strong enough to lift a 20-24in oak until you add stabilizer legs to it.
The 17VS is a commercial grade machine, while the 1165V is a homeowner grade machine. Can't use it for hours on end without the hydraulic oil getting too hot.
@@thefirewooddoctor Thanks for watching! Like I had said, I have made several modifications and more videos coming on this little machine
@@thefirewooddoctor Can't??
At first I was going to guess a little bit less than 15 minutes and 13 seconds 😁
Maybe with some help!
I almost pulled the trigger on ordering one like 2 weeks ago but talked myself out of it…these videos are making me second guess my decision. Haha..keep up the great work bud. 👍
@@mikesherman2612 It works really well!
Impressive, looks like they really hit the mark with this machine.
I've contacted them and will be making some small mods. Great to deal with
Hard to believe how strong this splitter is. Are you gonna make a foot feed for it?
@cutNdryfirewood I will! I hope to be able to build one before the weekend is up. Stupid regular job always gets in the way 🤣
Looks like you’ve got your system dialed in.
@thelogfather5002 Thanks Jeff. It's an older machine, and my son and I have probably put 800 full cord through it. Very reliable as it's all mechanical and hydraulic..... no computers to crash
