Train Layout Additions!!! Woodland Scenics Trees & Figures
Hi Ray !
So cool, Ray! An fine presentation of one of the great catalogs from the past. Those old catalogs are a trip back in time, for sure. I have a 1955 Lionel private catalog, along with a 1951 American Flyer and a couple of AMT catalogs from 1950 and 1952. You'll notice that the low-end O27 engines, like the 221, didn't have smoke. I don't miss it on mine. Another thing, the lower-end O27 and O gauge sets came with carry-over cars, from the pre-war sets. The crane car, dump car and some of the passenger cars, among others, all were all pre-war carry-overs in the lower-end sets. The cars were also offered for separate sale. The transformers were basically pre-war versions, before the new transformers came out in 1948 and had no whistle or direction buttons. I have a type V, which is great for accessories. Some of the accessories, like the coal and log loader, were carry-overs. I actually like them better than the newer ones. That Lionel #30 operating water tower was discontinued after 1947 and is quite valuable today. The construction sets are neat and were obviously aimed at Erector. I have the 454 set. The chemistry sets were something else, entirely. There wasn't much thought given to what they contained and some of the side-effects that handling them could cause. At least kids back then weren't ingesting some of the chemicals, unlike today, where they eat Tide Pods. It was certainly different times back then, for sure. Either way, an excellent overview and video, as always.
On page one the top set with the 2-4-2 Locomotive and 3 cars my brother and I received this set on 👎Christmas day in 1947, we ran the daylights out of it, what fun we had for years with this train set. Ray, thanks for the wonderful memories!👍👍🚂🚂
Hi Ray thanks for the walk back in time with this old catalog 😃🚂👍
Hi love the old Lionel catalogs. The art work is beautiful
Fantastic review, Ray! The condition of the catalog looks pretty good to me. It was and is the contents within those Lionel catalogs that still excites me. I received my first Lionel train in 1956 I believe it was. A Milwaukee Road GP7 set which probably explains why GP7's/9's are my favorite diesel locomotives today, lol! You did a great job sharing the catalog with us. Bill B.
@@ozarkmidlandsouthernrailway thanks bill !!! Can’t wait to do your challenge
@@RaysTrains Hey, Ray, thank you! Don't hesitate to climb on board, the Bill B.'s Holiday Box Car Challenge 2024 Express. We're waiting for you, lol! Bill
I keep forgetting what day you have a live video. Tonight was it. At h you next week.
Cool catalog! I wonder if this was around the time of AC Gilbert? Not sure when that came in to play.
They also re-started, right after WWII. Gilbert bought Flyer in 1938.
Awesome catalog, that catalog is in great condition. I love looking at that old stuff and seeing how Lionel marketed their trains. I think you're right, while the tone and images have changed they still follow that same format. I'm pretty sure I had that scout set early on in the catalog, I gave that to dagryffyn hobby.
Just got your package in the mail today, love the t- shirt, thanks!
@@garys0scale525 sorry I took so long Gary lol can’t thank you enough !
5:11 the Scout in the upper left is a set my dad had that he gave to us. It was a hand-me-down from his cousin. So “The Secondhand Overland” started MANY moons ago! 😅
what is dummy engine?
Much more exciting options today. Similar to automobile choices then vs today.
Yep-they are the real deal, and a steal at that. I ordered a bunch more while they are still around at the nice price. . . .
Hay Ray like or not it exists manards has graffiti cars its out there watch train run shows mostly jawtooth vary nice guy out of Kentucky the comments always get into the cremenality of gafity it is wat it is have fun with it 👍
RMT makes cool stuff. There engines are pretty good too. And cheaper!
I picked up two new RMT boxcars after York, one very happy with them. Yes the wheels aren’t perfect, but it really doesn’t wobble any more than any other car. I buy a good amount of Lionel standard O and Weaver boxcars for about $20, and these RMTs beat those easily
Nice NH electomotive engine way to make a guy jealous 😅 now ur going to have to string some over head lines have fun 👍 guess ur not a adams family fan u might b to young to get that train safty joke if so sory
Watch a real train sometime. They wobble a bit.
@@johnblair8146 10/10 comment John lol
looks great I'm not thinking about getting a couple thanks Ray!!
$30 dollars for the RMT car! That is insane.😱🚂🇬🇧😁
@@davidbarr9343 😄😄🇬🇧🇬🇧
I had several RMT items on pre-order before I finally received my first one. I have to say, near Atlas O detail in close to "Menards" pricing. Great products! I still have 14 RMT items on pre-order and have received the 1, but am way more than satisfied with their products!
Not sure what manards trains u have with plastic wheels all my manards rolling stock have metal wheels but definitely the RMT has more details for about same price as manards will check them out they better watch them self lionel will try to run them out of business that's how they keep thier prices high and offer u less😮
@@JimAlderson-cn6ek haha my bad Jim I actually have a bunch of Menards cars and I know they have metal wheels just a slip of the tongue. I should have added those in my comparison
Ur good not happy with all manards stuff but on a retirement income so money is a issue will definitely check out RMT and see if local hobby store carries them 😊
Glad u got the CXS going from the train show have a couple of views on how u handled it 👍 think 🤔 ur not releasing the guys name spot on the internet can b ruthless and in the end u were happy that's what's inportant
Been little under 2 years started with the Bata manards trains running on kitchen table now on a 9×5 layout its a learning curve for sure have fun that's what it's all about 😊❤
I agree on RMT rolling stock - the items are well built, look and run great, and have an amazing price point! I can see getting a few more of these in the future.
That’s a sick car! Great interior detail.
Sometimes, the prototype wobbles! A wobbling car/engine is no big deal! 😮
Remember, modern box cars don't have roof walks! 😮
Great Review! Just picked up an RMT Tank Car today!
Your new box car looks great.
I have a couple of there cars. Very good stuff. Great price point.
Nice car, Ray! RMT makes some real nice rolling stock, for sure. I didn't see any wobble that was abnormal. Most track isn't perfectly flat, so it doesn't seem to be a problem. I have read where RMT fixed the wheel wobble problem, which may have been a manufacturing issue, in the beginning. As for metal wheels, my Menard's flat car has metal wheels, so maybe the plastic wheels were an early production run, or just what they could source, at the time. Who knows? I won't be at Edison, since there is so much going on, for the Holidays and I'll be in Atlantic City, after Christmas. Either way, a fine review, as always and an excellent video.
@@johnandrus3901 that was a mistake by me I’m not sure why I said it I have a bunch of Menards cars lol I guess that was just my way of saying they were heavier than Menards oops 😂
@ Yeah, they seem to be better built. I think that you might have meant plastic trucks, maybe? I like the fact that they are a New Jersey company. I’m waiting to get the USS New Jersey box car. It looks exceptional.
Next time compare apples to apples.
Menards cars have metal wheels!!!
I've got a couple I'm not real happy with but there is a good price for them so I glue the couplers and put in the back so the weights not heavy on them 0:54
bought the special run from Hennings and six from Pat's love them
Thank you for the video. The RMT box car looks like a real value. After seeing this I am going to try a couple.
I just got Rmt ore cars and last year I got the us sugar cane cars they are not atlas 😁but are very decent cars for price compared to Lionel crazy prices I have Lionel cars that wobble I don’t have any on my rmt cars now I think it’s in the weight of cars but they are very nice for price Great video Ray I will stick to my atlas Mth cars but will buy some rmt 👍
Huh. For $30 ? Wow. Only real negative I saw was sliding door fit was loose. I thought rmt went out of business.
I have two RMT Steel Sided Box Cars and I love them. RMT is an awesome choice if you want quality but do don’t want to pay 70.00 for a car. I want to try a few of their Ore Cars very soon. Great Video👍👍🙏🔥💪❤️🇺🇸
Vool
About a year ago I bought a couple of RMT tank cars and they were fine. Recently, though, I ordered a couple of RMT box cars and there were a whole bunch of problems. The roof walkway on one car sprung away from the body of the car as soon as I took them out of the packaging, On another the walkway was warped away from he body of the car in the middle. The brake wheels either were already loose in the packaging or just fell of the car. One car had one of the truck tolerances so tight holding the axles in place that the wheels couldn't roll at all. Sent the two boxcars back to the store I got them from who sent me a replacement that had the same problems. A 36' Ballantine wood reefer I ordered didn't have any of those problems but the pad printing looked pretty rough - as if done by a malfunctioning dot-matix printer. The cars have great details and weight for the money but the factory needs to have better quality control.
Nice deal for 30s dollars Ray🚂👍
Very nice...hopefully someday you can get to the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago, The layout they have is UNREAL!!!!! There is some good videos of it here on youtube as well. To see it in person is divine !!! 🤣🤣Its HO but its spectacular.
@@Its_YourImagination I hope someday but this layout could be it for the next few years
Ray do you ever have future plans for some type of expansion?
I have 2 RMT cars I had to fix both One the wheel was seized up The reefer has the uncoupler was not correct RMT gets a B For the price they are worth it When I run them with my Atlas MTH and Lionel, you really can tell which is which I met the owner at York He takes great pride in his products I will see you tomorrow at Edison.Great review
@@williamkolina3988 I hope I can go Billy I haven’t had power since 10am so if I don’t get it back i probably won’t go since I can’t shower 😂
RMT's been a class act for as long as they've been around, 20 plus years at least. I've got six of their "Beep" diesels and let me tell you, put two or more together and they'll pull anything! "Beeps" aren't in production at the moment but in the future, who knows? As far as the "wobble" is concerned there WAS a problem with some RMT ore cars about a year ago with defective trucks but that problem's been put right. I stopped by the Henning's booth at York myself and had a nice chat with Walt Matuch, the owner of RMT. VERY nice man! But of course, he's a Jersey Guy! I didn't get any RMT cars at the Henning's booth, I'm waiting for their "Battleship New Jersey" car but I DID get a Henning's T-shirt! And it's top quality too! I was hoping to be the envy of all who see me at the gym but nobody's even noticed! Damn it! Nobody's noticed the Gryzboski's T-shirt either! WHAT the hell am I supposed to do? What's wrong with people! Seriously RMT's always been great value for the money. Thanks for posting Ray! And good luck on the hunt at Edison! We've got a club show here in Virginia this weekend where I'm going to try and thin the herd a bit. I'm not looking for anything (Isn't that what we all say?) but who knows what's gonna find ME?
Saturday is a wash for me. Promised the wife I'd take her to the Christmas village in Philly.
I have 5 rtm wood side reefers runs great
