    Brilliant result. You're lucky the owner collected parts too. I am the second owner of a Wimbledon White Fastback myself, and I have been using the same approach to preserving it. I've enjoyed driving it for 27 years now. I put over 200K miles on it and it's nearing 400K total. Next, it will get a new engine and a 5-speed manual so it can drive some more! Drive them to the ground, I say!

      Great to hear about your Wimbledon White fastback. Love your approach to restoration, keeping it in service and using it a lot. My last three things on my list include addressing a PS leak, getting the AC working again and dealing with a carb issue. Once those are resolved, my whole list will be complete and it will be a lot easier to drive often without hesitation. Have a great summer.

      @@Paul355c I got very tired of maintaining the steering, so I installed a rack and pinion system 15 years ago, along with a beefy sway bar and stiff springs. Keep up the good work and make nice videos. Next, I will work on paint chips. It was repainted once, in 1986, after a minor fender bender. It had chips I have been tending to all along the door spear, but it's time to do a better job, as you did. Thanks for the inspiration!

    Hey great project , was this gloss black or metallic black ?

    • @Paul355c
      @Paul355c 2 місяці тому

      Hey, thanks for the comment. I went back with the factory color of Beluga Black. I had the paint shop look up the formula. It doesn’t really have any metallic so it’s more a version of gloss black with a hint of pearl. Safe travels.

    The jack in the spare wheel tool holder needs to be upright otherwise it will leak oil. The holder has an arrow on it indicating "this way up". A rubber ring secures the holder in the wheel well, wrapped around the screw handle and a brace across the holder - if you get my drift.

    • @Paul355c

      Hi! I don’t know for sure but in general, plastic is soft so your best bet would be a soft cloth like microfiber and a fluid that lubricated and less like a harsh detergent. I’ve had luck with using quick-detailing spray on plastic. That’s the quick detail spray that would normally be used on a paint finish to clean up between washes. Good luck!

Keeping the patina and getting everything working like it came out of the factory with a few subtle mods. Similar to your story my first car was a '68 Cougar so it has been fun working on the '69. BTW if the radiator is the original the top tank will have a FoMoCo stamped on it.

    Amazing job. On a scale of 1 to 10 how difficult was it to refit the rear 1/4 glass? Also where did you source your under bonnet decals? Hello! The rear quarter window was a 7 in difficulty. Some things that come to mind include lubricating the rubber surround to help the awkward install. Maybe use soap or silicone spray. It would also be extra work if you have to address rust in the rough opening. That would be a whole side project that you hadn’t planned for. I don’t remember the exact vendor of the stickers but I got them from eBay. Just search eBay on Range Rover Classic decals. I think the vendor was out of NY or NJ. Your restoration sounds great and you will love one of those blues!
