Shifting priorities
Переглядів 92Рік тому
I explore shifting money priorities in this video from saving as much as possible to spending consciously on things that I enjoy. Over the course of my journey, I've had huge ambitious goals, that, while admirable, have not taken my own interests into account. In fact, they have taken them into account but have actively deprioritized them. Now that I have done the hard work to build my foundati...

I got a jew job! I've been climbing the corporate ladder since I graduated. Mostly that's consisted of hopping places as opposed to staying in one place and "working up." In this video I detail why I decided to hop yet again, making this my 4th job in the past 5 years. I detail my decision making process as well as the new salary and how the new job differs from my current role.

Financial independence is obviously a hard goal to obtain for most, and it can feel very frustrating when financial setbacks happen in life. I talk about things in my own life that have aggravated me recently, and express resentment towards society for having to be on this path in the first place.

    I find it kind of weird that you’re almost seeking out discrimination. Specifically when you said “I almost wish I had worn this shirt to see what they would’ve done”. All I’d ask is why? Why not just go there as a regular person, don’t even bring your sexual orientation into it, because really it has nothing to do with finances. And just have a good time with Dave. It just seems to me that you really wanted Dave to do you wrong so you had a reason to cancel him, but instead, he treated you well, and you’re scrambling to find things he did wrong.

    If it weren't for David Ramsey those guys in his office would not have jobs. David Ramsey has earned the right to run his company the way he see fit. If someone doesn't like it I guess that's just too bad. Remember our God is not a fan of gay people. One example is God said to go into the world and multiply. Gay people don't do that, where do the grandchildren come from? I do understand that most gay people can't help that they are gay. Gay people did not choose to be gay. Because homosexuality is a birth defect in my opinion, for most gay people. It is a sin but I don't think you will be going to hell for it, at least not in this lifetime. You just need to believe that Jesus Christ is your savior and he died for our sins.

    I’ve kinda gotten into his show a lot this year, and almost all of the debt-free screams are married straight young couples, older couples, and a few singles. It left me wondering if they feel their plan is for everyone, if they’d welcome a married gay couple with kids on their show. So it’s cool to see they did actually have one gay man that I know so far. They do have one “personality” who’s a woman who isn’t Dave’s daughter, Jade Warshaw. And so for their regular personalities I think it’s an even 2 men and 2 women, they just sometimes rotate around so you may not know them all.

    • @ryancaldwell9463
      @ryancaldwell9463 9 місяців тому

      Another thing I notice is they reference the “guys in the booth” a lot, so it’s not all just women making it run. But I’ve also never been there to see behind the scenes. I also just noticed this video is from 2 years ago, so maybe the personality lineup was different then, and what it looks like to me as a more recent viewer isn't what you experienced.

    Yeah, I relate to this a lot. I am 23 living at home trying to move out and have saved a pretty okay amount although with low expenses it could be better. I took a job in March with gov that was hybrid in a city with a long once-a-week commute and I just quit it with no barely any notice yesterday (we were still training) but I was just kind of done with the commute and with rumored more days in office I figured I might as well quit now and spend time building some skills. I am going to drain my savings for a bit haha which will halt my move-out fund for a bit haha. Hopefully I can have a job where the pay allows me to live in said city since remote seems to be a thing of the past haha.

    I wasn't clear from what you said. Did they know you were gay? Did you mention it to anyone? Because the vibe I get is that Dave thinks that's a sin and wouldn't want you on his show if he knew. The fact he mentioned marriage and kids suggests he didn't know.

    Wow. That’s a lot. It seems the progress you’ve made has given you some freedom. Good luck in this new less certain situation. Kudos for staying real with your audience. Short term, working on contract might not be ideal but being self employed could give you an option for a SEP or solo 401k which, depending on how much you make could allow you to save more than the 401k maximums. Insurance could be a bear though.

      Yeah, it’s true that I have options and that’s more freedom than I’ve ever had, so that’s a good marker of progress in my career. I haven’t dove into exploring solo 401ks yet. I’m gonna look into that!

    Ahh, I am sorry to hear that but I hear some similar things to what I am experiencing LOL. I just started in government as a recent grad PM and 3 weeks in and I am already questioning stuff LOL. I like a good amount of people and honestly, I could see myself doing the job. However, a lot of my coworkers have been telling me like everyone leaves within 6 months and the training program seems to be a little different than what I was told in the interviews (ie. I found out that our role might change and that it is possible that we are going from one day remote to more in-person). I noticed a lot of them do not seem happy lol and I have had so many saying "Why are you working here/commuting a long commute once a week for this" although that is mainly because I had an amazing job in a field that I was just not interesting in anymore and a great team before that I left 😅

    • @byenineto5226
      @byenineto5226 Рік тому

      Aaah that sounds confusing! I’ve been in places before where the role suddenly changes and you feel like it’s not what you signed up for. But I’d trust your gut. If you see yourself being able to do it and liking most of the people and the job, then maybe it’ll be alright! Keep me posted and good luck!

    I hope your upcoming job hunt shows you just how much you’re worth. I went thru two job searches within 13 months and the first one was a little discouraging cuz all the offers were basically what I was making so it was just looking for a job more suited to my interests. Then the second job hunt landed me a dream job with an offer higher than I even asked for. Really showing me how valuable I am. You seem super talented so I’m positive this limbo period won’t last long before you land something huge for your coast-fire goal

  • @williamshalalala

    I’m so sorry! I’m sure you’ll bounce back with something better that’ll pop up and it’s healthy to not tie professional self worth to employment status. Your experience is not an anomaly! I left a stable contract (that job had existing for 5+ years) for a new company that didn’t have funding for my position after three months so I had to rely on my work supervisor finding me another fit (they did). I found out the old company I left with that stable 5+ year job had lost their entire contract two years after I left it, so don’t immediately assume the grass may always have been greener if you stayed at previous jobs. I also reached out to my professional network more often after that for job opportunities instead of assuming the next job would be more stable - my old coworker recommended me for a position that I enjoy through that. I apply for new positions and have “exploratory interviews” every few months to see what else is out there and keep my interviewing and resume writing skills fresh. Many of my friends and I experienced contractor job turbulence with option years too before branching out to the private sector or permanent federal positions on USAJOBS not tied to federal contracts. Contractor and federal jobs can be much difference experiences due to stability/authority/benefits (which is weird bc you’re working on the same kinds of projects).

    • @byenineto5226
      @byenineto5226 Рік тому

      William, thanks for such a thoughtful and caring response! I completely agree with the sentiment of interviewing every couple of months just to see what's out there and to keep your resume and skills fresh. I also really needed to hear what you said about the grass not always being greener at the place you left. It's true - I don't know, so I shouldn't just assume it would be better should I have stayed. That's only going to drive me crazy lol It's also good to hear that there are some fed positions that you've noticed seem to be worth it. I think a permanent position would be very different and likely better, though I think permanent positions in UX are extremely limited in the government considering how far behind they seem to lag in regards to technology. Though that is speculation on my part. Thanks for sharing again! Excited to update you when I figure out the next adventure.
