Opera is as rich in drama, melody and beauty, as music can be. It should be available to everyone, to listen and love.

Bellissima interpretazione e splendida registrazione, "Vedeste? Vedemmo", uno dei cori d'opera piu' belli di sempre.
❤
This was Marriner's second Requiem I believe. He recorded an interesting version during the mid-70s for Argo (later Decca), with more operatic soloists (Cotrubas, Watts, Tear, Shirley-Quirk) and used a different edition of the score. It's okay, but I find that the Philips sound is far superior and the soloists are more appropriate for the repertoire (especially Sylvia McNair, with her stunning crystal-clear tone). This recording was also dedicated to Raymond Koster, the first bassist of the Academy, who had passed away, which I think was also a very beautiful and unique sentiment.

A little bit too fast in my opinion, there is no time enough to enjoy the fugue at Kyrie for example. But then again, just my opinion. I dont deny the high quality of the interpreters for sure! And I love the level of the piano they achieved.
is that Christian bale?

Insurpassable !!!!
Thank you 🙏
👏👏 Although Sills is truly wonderful as Anna, it is Verrett who is AMAZING! Verrett set the bar very high as Giovanna. Wish Sills and Verrett had recorded the Donizetti Queen trilogy together.👏👏👏
Bravo ❤
It probably is the best sung Roberto Devereaux. Beverly Sills was one of a kind singer. Mackeras's leadership was very dramatic - you didn't need to see them with your eyes; you saw them with your ears.
2 Of my ALL time Favorite Sopranos: Farrell and Sills...They are/were the BEST in their vocal categories .
Gracias
To me this is THE BEST version of Devereux. Sills is just the most incredible Elisabetta I have ever seen ❤❤❤
AMEN to that 10 million times!
ABSOLUTELY!!!
Beverly Sills is perhaps a little light vocally for Elisabetta but she sure sings the hell out of her and is riveting from start to end.
Love this rendition, Beverly Sills extraordinary❤

No show offs, just an honest playing trying to achieve a balanced period performance with modern means. The gaps between movements are longer so the listener gets space to digest one movement before attacking the next one.
Class tells.
I like it, the best
Actually I owned this LP years ago & it was recorded in, I believe 1955. Siepi did record it again in 1959 also with Corena as Leporello. Excerpts of this recording I have as well which has both Birgit Nilsson & Leontyne Price & is well worth hearing. Siepi, IMO, was the definitive GIOVANNI of his time although some may prefer George London whose instrument & approach to the character are very different. I admire London as well, especially in the final scene where his powerful timbre is most appropriate but otherwise personally prefer Siepi‘s more lyric but equally sonorous instrument. Simply boils down to being a matter of taste.
Loveing it ❤😊
It's the best. you know it the minute it starts. your mind flies.
Mah!
❤
Purchase the Philips boxed Mozart set by The Academy of St Martin in the fields and Neville Mariner. It's the gold standard of Mozart. I don't know if it's available anymore- I bought them when I was in college 20 years ago. Even this recording, although it's by the same orchestra and conductor, is inferior to the official Mozart edition.
This style is a hybrid between the period instrument practice but played with a modern instrument and bow, modern tuning, however achieving the old sound with limited vibrato and light bowing. Short notes and no show off. Some embellishments added but it needs more embellishing on the repeats. That was the purpose of the repeats to give the player a freedom to embellish. Sadly all the virtuosi cellists and violists do the repeats just the same possibly for fear of being criticized . Bach gives us blueprints with no markings of dynamics or speed . This is the pleasure of playing Bach, there is no set way it is the music that counts.
Kore ga, requiem da
Dio Santo !!! Sono incredibiliiiiiiiiiiiiii .....Che cast favoloso !!!
I hadn't realized Abbado was still conducting the Vienna Philharmonic in 2011?! In what else?
Az egyik legnagyobb magyar dirigens...Mozart egyszerűen csodalatos!!!
Anyone feeling the immediate difference in the quality and the style of music written for Sanctus/Benedictus/Agnus Dei?Gosh, I just can’t help but wonder what if Mozart had finished the whole work and died… those parts are clearly not Mozartian, and I just keep on waiting for Communio…
The only BEST version. Heard it since l could walk.

Wolff does not sound confident. she sounds retiring, scared of her own voice. I much prefer Sills' singing, it's "in your face".
42:14 to 42:30 what the **** was that???????? worst singing ever. what note was that?
OMG, so many different variations in video, this is the only one in audio only. Seriously who is going to watch an opera on a tiny screen 25 millimeters across?
