One of the most underrated operas of Mozart... We are totally wrong when, listening to this opera, we look in it for overwhelming scenes, profound charateres or majestic sounds, as we tend to do with the Figaro and Don Giovanni. Così Fan Tutte has its own, peculiar, fantastic, pure and white beauty. Maybe its time is yet to come... Our society is too far from a real understanding of its inner perfection.

Agree with the above. Very underrated... After listening to Figaro, Seraglio and Giovanni for the millionth time, I find myself really enjoying the lightheartedness of this opera. And Sir Neville is the man.

@@taf44tt8io yeah good for you. I love it when people feel the need to one up something posted here with how some other recording was even better or their favorite. JFC can anyone just remark about how they liked something without being pointed about how something else was even better or their favorite? Performances should be enjoyed and appreciated for their own merits. Will never understand the need to invalidate all other recordings in favor of their one single favorite recording.

I've heard a few renditions of Cossi Fan Tutte, including two live ones, but Sir Neville Marriner took the lead for all. Mozart's humor is passed on very well through the 2 lead women performing. I've also never heard such broad range singing for Cosi Fan Tutte, specially with the Mezzo Soprano. The main guys also match the skill range beautifully.
I had to look outward and "upward" to thank Mozart for his humor transferring through his music. Thank you Sir Marriner for conducting the orchestra in such a light hearted manner.
Sauludos a usted en Mexico, desde Silicon Valley, Cali. :-)

      deathmare1,
Play it with true, live inner feeling. That is the way to convey true culture. When your soul links on to spirit as happened to Mozart, then you know you are performing True Culture.
That is what is meant to be truly alive.

@Jonathan: it's definitely part of the opera, but I've come across many versions/stagings where that little part (what is it, less than a minute? But so beautiful!) is left out. For example the Ponnelle Cosi film omits it.

to be honest this has to be the worst recording of Cosi I have ever heard hands down, to my mind we have a cast that seems uninterested in the procedings. it sounds like this is the first run through where they perhaps have first sung their roles, the voices seem to fade on the last phrase if it even makes it that far. thier are many fine recording of this opera and this is not one of them.

I saw a performance of Cosi last night in Phoenix. I usually prefer his German operas, but what barbarian is going to skip out on a performance of Don Giovanni, Le Nozze or this. This is a particularly good recording. I’ve listened to all the Bohm recordings, but actually never liked the Schwarzkopf/Ludwig pairing for everything. They were two great and very serious artists, but I found Schwarzkopf a bit pedantic at times. It can make something light, like this opera, a little…….turgid 😑
