Lost Themes IV by John Carpenter | Album Review
Переглядів 19014 днів тому
This week we're discussing Lost Themes IV: Noir, the latest album by legendary movie director John Carpenter. Collaborating with his son, Cody Carpenter and his godson, Daniel Davies, this is Carpenter's fourth album and it's a ton of fun. Like previous Lost Themes albums, there are a ton of synths, 80s rock guitars, and driving electronic rhythms. Is it reinventing the wheel? Definitely not. B...

This week we're discussing the debut solo album by Portishead vocalist Beth Gibbons titled Lives Outgrown. We honestly weren't sure what to expect from this record, but what we got is easily one of the best albums of the year. While there are hints of Portishead's sound here, Gibbons has taken a turn for the dark, orchestral, and tribal. This is one you gotta hear. Patreon: www.patreon.com/ever...

This week we're discussing every album by Hot Snakes. Led by the prolific guitar duo of Rick Froberg and John Reis (Drive Like Jehu, Rocket from the Crypt, Obits), Hot Snakes takes the post-hardcore technicality of Drive Like Jehu and condenses into shorter and more energetic song structures. An incredible band whose life was cut short due to the untimely death of Froberg in 2023. Turn these gu...

The frustrating thing about the tracks off Gemini is that live they go so much harder! The prog is doubled, the vocals are tighter, the playing is better… I hate listening to the album after hearing those songs live! (Well, recordings of them)

(Editing doesn’t work for me somehow) There is always a reggae influence, but I think they’d stepped away from the 2nd/3rd wave ska shenanigans by Mandala. I am so “Iunno” on his vocals. They’re… there. I think the vocals on Ruby Cumulus are great, though. Fits the song.

this was a massive album for me, which i didn't hear until i was 20. up till then i'd never heard anything so raw and live sounding. I'm surprised you guys didn't mention that the song kim gordons Panties References a sonic youth song schizophrenia.i would love to know if it is a nod to sonic youth or a dig or homage or whatever.

Kurt took the line Easily amused from Someone take the Wheel. And possibly Nevermind as well. The way I found The Replacementd was trom Kurts lost favorites and I discovered Bastards of Young. He absolutely was heavily influenced by The Replacements.

Love the show guys. Melvins & Slayer best episodes yet. Was SO excited to see you finally got to Acid Bath. But then you practically took a sh@! On one of the greatest metal bands of all time. One of the greatest vocalists of all time and 2 perfect albums. Wtf guys!?!?!? I disagree with you a lot from time to time but man, you even described some of their songs as goth??? I cannot believe my ears. Anyways, still love ya. But you two were 85% WRONG this go around!!! Lol

The story I've always heard is that the band broke up after the bassist (and his parents) were killed by a drunk driver. I always liked the sung vocals. The vocals added variety to their sound, gave the music more of a southern feel, and made them stand out from other sludge metal bands. Fun fact: The CW show iZombie used one of Dax Riggs' songs for their intro. I only bring it up because the idea of the Acid Bath vocalist having a song featured on The CW just feels so bizarre to me.

The Tool comparison rant is so spot on. People will hear one 7/8 riff amd some whispery vocals and its immediately Tool to them. That's why people say all Tool songs sound the same too, because they find one vibe and generalize everything to fit in

The name Aicd Bath actually comes from another band that had the same name in New Orleans but they were inactive at the time and and were more of a Joke Band and they got the permission from members of that band to use the name Acid Bath.
