Phoenix had a decent punk scene back in the 80s Sun City Girls, Meat Puppets, Feederz, The Brainz, Mighty Sphincter, JFA I think all those bands were on the Placebo record label. My cousin was part of that scene, he took me to a show in like 86 I liked what was happening there because each band was so absolutely different. It didn’t seem like anyone was influenced by anyone else.
The only band I'm not a fan of there is Mighty Sphincter and that's only because I never heard of them. I completely forgot Feederz were from AZ (the singer fled to San Francisco after forging government documents and sending them to a bunch of public schools...I want to do an episode on them for Frank Discussion ALONE). I didn't even realize SCG and Meat Puppets were from there despite being a fan for so long. What an incredibly unique scene.
@@EveryAlbumEver check out MIGHTY SPHINCTER - NEW MANSON FAMILY. (Not a great album by any strech, but definitely interesting). GHOST WALKING might be the more punk of their albums. Mighty Sphincter was Doug Clark’s band, whose brother was Dan Clark (Clear Bob) of the Feederz. They were this weird goth, shock punk with a bit of performance art vibe.
Phoenix is my favorite record of the decade so far, even beating out 93696, to be honest before Phoenix I didn't really like them that much, I thought they were cool but I just couldn't find myself invested in it like I did with a lot of their peers in experimental rap, but this man, it's like they leap frogged over everybody overnight. And obviously the sonic qualities play a huge part of it but what really takes it over the edge of nearly everybody else is how many powerful vulnerable emotions are on full display on this record
I was really looking forward to this episode but I have to say that you guys not covering _Live from the Dentist Office_ or _Floss_ is a major L and are integral to discussing their musical evolution. I never thought I’d have to leave a comment like this 🥲

I’m pretty sure they sample the black midi song sweater and drummer Morgan contributed percussions to Phoenix

This one's painful to read, but there's still always room for a Loose Ends episode.
@@EveryAlbumEver In which case you guys should absolutely check out Ritchie’s solo album _Triple Digits [112]._
