  • This week we’re discussing the one and only album by Mike Patton’s Peeping Tom. We all know Patton from Faith No More and Mr. Bungle (and his million other side projects, honestly), but Peeping Tom was the one time he tried mainstream pop music. Or at least his version of it, which of course sounds like no one else and could barely be considered pop music. A litany of guests are on here, too (Dan the Automator, Kool Keith, Norah Jones, Massive Attack). A bit dated in spots, but a great album still worth revisiting.

If you want another rarely covered Patton concept project, I’d love to hear you do Nevermen (Patton/Doseone/Tunde Adebimpe/Keith Tyson - 2016). It’s a sonically interesting project that blends the music with the stunning visual art of Tyson. I bought the vinyl on Lex Records as soon as it dropped. I feel it’s the project that flew under the radar and never gets discussed, which is a shame because I loved it. NEVERMEN PLEASE!

That was the group I was thinking of when I said 13 and God. Got my anticon projects all mixed up.

I highly encourage you both to check out the demo version of this album. We got it, no joke, no less than 18 months before the album dropped officially and loved it. But the full album, while still pretty cool, remixed a lot of my favorite samples, licks, and overall audio choices much farther into the background of the tracks and, imo, kinda watered down the final version. Neighborhood Spaceman, my favorite song, was the most injured. Take a listen back to back. The audio of this album is impressive, but it was a mich braver album before official. UA-cam has them.

If this album had used the last track as its template, it would be an amazing album. Its still an interesting listen, but extremely of its time and im unable to assume someone coming to this cold having not been listening to metal or rap rock at the time would feel the same

The way Mike (Mansour, not Patton) describes "Don't Even Trip" is how I felt about this album as a whole. It's not a bad album, but it gives me that Steve Buscemi "Hello fellow kids" vibe of a man in his late 30's acting like he's in his late teens.

hey guys! love the show ,cant stand this album. in my defense it's because i had demo's for a few of the songs for like years before it actually came out and while not great i really dug the demo's. that coupled with the fact that i love so many of the guests on this album so i had reaaaly high hopes for it that it did not reach. so i guess that's on me i really enjoy we're not alone but you can get that on one of the dub trio albums. well that's my 2 cents also mansour threatened a thinking fellers episode once apon a time and i eagerly await the completion of that threat.

Has anyone ever told you you're a giant bummer? Judging by the way you talk to people I'm guessing yes. Figure it out and act normal again.

@@mitchellhedden1978 We've got ourselves a broken record here. Since my opinion is worth its weight in gold to you, either format works just fine for me. What makes them entertaining isn't broken by their lack of proximity. Alex was sick with the flu and STILL recorded a pod when he was feeling like shit. Why doesn't that matter to you? Figure it out and act normal again.
