Gorgeous body
which diagrams you used to get the five positions switch working?
Hello! The setup was a 3-way switch with two push pull pots. Vol has the voicing selector and the tone has the coil split. I believe it was this diagram. Hope that helps! www.fishman.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/2-Humbuckers-1-Volume-PP-1-Tone-PP-Voice-2-_-Coil-Tap-3-Way-Blade-Battery-Pack.pdf
@AugmentGuitars thanks for your response! So I basically want the same guitar settings that ola has here ua-cam.com/video/kO0fBCs26S4/v-deo.htmlsi=MEz1H_qS5CtWzLaz it seems like he has the 5 positions enabled and the 3 voice on the tone nob, but I can't find the right diagram to check how to properly wire that blade switch with 5 positions haha
Wew, made in indonesiaa ❤❤
Really nice job!
Thank you! 🤘🏻
Like a bass.
Right?! lol
Where did you get those nut filiers at??
The ones I used in the video were from uo chikyu, but the quality varies quite a bit. I bought a set a few years ago for bass nut slots but they wore out after a few uses. Get a set from StewMac and you'll be set! www.stewmac.com/luthier-tools-and-supplies/tools-by-job/tools-for-nuts-and-saddles/gauged-nut-slotting-file-set-for-electric-guitar?queryid=65908b3e5812e51bf72978661f1121cc
got some great ideas from this and from part 1
Could You swap to the Hipshot® bridge on this? & Let us hear before & after.
What a beautiful thing, fabulous job mate.
Thank you! 🤘🏻
Great job on the build! Just curious-are the lighting fixtures explosion-proof? Since you went with an explosion-proof fan, I was wondering if it might be worth considering some way to seal off the lights and cables from the fumes. Also, have you noticed any issues with dust in your finish since it's not fully blocked off from the rest of your workshop? Overall, it looks like a great setup!
Thank you! I was going to detail the lighting in the next video (if I ever get around to filming and editing it lol!) I did use a sealed, explosion proof LED light bar for the booth. It's worked great for me so far! I went with 5000k temperature as that seems to be the most accurate light tone. Hope that helps!
dude, that is a perfect setup for any spraying project, nice attention to detail!! looks fantastic I'll be doing the same thing as you!
It’s served me well so far!! Good luck on your build. 😊
use sealed bearing top and bottom of your lazy Susan so its very easy to spin, you can thank me later
I almost went this route!
if i tuning to drop e , what pitch hz should i use ? 440 hz or what ?
Good question! I have a Peterson Strobostomp tuner pedal and it has a few preset settings. For most of the strings, I use the guitar setting. On the lower two, I use the bass setting. Seems to read a bit better with those low notes. I believe they are both 440 hz though.
FELICITACIONES.... Es realmente cautivante.... "de otro planeta"
wOOUUU !!! MAN!
I looked at an Ibanez RG8 today in store as an entry into 8 strings and decided to pass on it. The frets were sharp on the ends, tool marks on the edge of the fret board, the neck pocket had a big gap in it against the neck and overall the finish was below average, with paint rubbed off around the neck screws and chipped along the neck pocket fresh out of the box. I watched the guitar center guy go get it from the back and cut the tape on its cardboard box right in front of me so I was the first person to touch it from factory. It might cost $450 USD brand new but you could expect to spend at least $450 setting it up and getting it presentable and playable
Yeah the QC seems to be a bit all over the place… I bought this one as a b-stock for under $300 and it needed some work. The frets weren’t too bad but needed some love. The nut was cut completely wrong and needed replaced 😂. If you know how to do the work though, you can score a decent deal!
@@AugmentGuitars Unfortunately I do not have the luthier skills required, I’d definitely love to learn one day and get a collection of tools going but at the moment I need something thats good to go or just needs some minor adjustments. Gonna check out the Jackson JS32-8 DKA HT and hopefully thats a bit higher quality from the get-go otherwise Ill keep saving and stay patient. Love your videos man, keep it up
@@Se7enthWard Good stuff to learn! If you own any older/cheap instruments, try doing some work on them. That's how I first started. You got this lol! Those Jacksons are pretty nice! Word of caution, if you are looking at the multi-scale version of that 8, it uses a different pickup size so you can't really get replacements without custom making them. I worked on one a few months back and found that out. lol
good video
the effort alone in these video's deserve more than 1,4k views, great job!
Thank you!! A lot of hard work went into it, worth it though! 😊
Then doesn't play it. LMAO.
Here is the tone demo/playthrough video! ua-cam.com/video/K62CMezHIhY/v-deo.htmlsi=Wso9DtnsuDh-Li1v
Not using gold / brass hardware is a crime with such a gorgeous dark stain. But seriously - absolutely beautiful.
I almost went with the gold hardware!!! Such a good combo 🔥👌🏻
Thank you for sharing the method! That's amazing!
Very nice video, sir. New sub here. Love the content. Just to note, when/if welding: The conduit is (usually)galvanized which means that if inhaled can be toxic. Also, the gas pipe fittings can be of a dissimilar metal so "just welding" may be nearly impossible for most, depending on the carbon content.
Good to know, thanks for the heads up! Another selling point for the Maker Pipe fittings then lol!
@@AugmentGuitars Yep. Thanks again for sharing this process. I learned a ton.
Thanks for the demonstration. I've been doing similar mods to my RG8 so it's been cool to see how yours is coming out. I'm just waiting for my moderns to arrive.
Nice! Honestly this guitar is a great base to modify. Mine played great out of the box, just needed better pickups really. Hope you enjoy the moderns! 🤘🏻🔥
@@AugmentGuitarsMy thoughts exactly, thank you ! Quick question where can I find that brass nut you installed in the other video ? I want that exact one for my RG8 lol
@@Osteoporosiphobic Happy to help! Unfortunately I don't think the seller is making them anymore... I bought it through "AxeMasters" out of MI but I can't find the listing eBay page. Send them a message and see if they can make one up for you: reverb.com/item/42878666-axemasters-slotted-brass-nut-handmade-for-ibanez-rg8-rg-8-guitar
@@AugmentGuitars I'll give it a shot. Much appreciated, you rock ! 🤘😎
Are these the stock pickups?
I swapped out the stock pickups for a set of Fishman Modern humbuckers. The stock pickups on these RG8s are a bit too muddy for my taste 🤘🏻
@@AugmentGuitars arent the fishmans active though? Ive never tried putting active in a passive guitar
@AcousticSerenity yes they are active. You have to re-do all of the electronics. This has all new pots, jack, etc.
Incredible! The neck finishing and colour is absolutely beautiful! Kind of gives it a roasted look. Fantastic workmanship.
Thanks for the kind words!! Glad you liked the build. 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Thanks for showing! You rock! 💪
Happy to help!! 🤘🏻🤘🏻
Love the black nut. Peace.
I don't like non laquered finishes too much, but this one looks very very cool with that color. Great job!
Thank you! Love how the finish turned out. 🤘🏻
Great tutorial...thanks
Thanks for watching! 🤘🏻
best tutorial i've found on this, straight to the point! great job brotha
Happy to help! 👌🏻
The humbucker pickup is not parallel to the guitar. Needs better mounting.
I did end up going back and fixing this lol! Used different foam and springs for stability. 👌🏻
Can you put these in a slanted rgms8? scouring the internet for resources and it seems like the agile and legator guitars with them just have the regular fishmans, not special slanted versions.
Hey Sammy! So looking at the RGMS8, it looks like the coils and the pickup cavity route itself is for slanted coils, so I don’t think they would work without modifications. 😞 you’d have to route them out for soapbars, and even then, they might not line up completely. I know Bare Knuckle or Elysian pickups can make custom slanted sets that might work for you. Check them out!
Hey, Jackson JS32-8 or Ibanez RG8?
Honestly, both are about the same. If you want to change the stock pickups on them, the Jackson has more flexibility as they aren’t soap bars. The RG8 has soap bars so your a limited to pickups that offer that form factor. Hope that helps!
If u tape the sides first then tape the frets when u pull off the sides the top will come off easily.
Great tip!
Okay that’s it, I’m buying this for my first 8 string lol
Wonderful guitar
Thank you! 😊
Im hearing that this guitar really isnt worth the purchase even at the low price, what do you think? And please be honest, i cant afford to waste my money
So the reason I upgraded this guitar a lot is I bought it as a B-stock, so there were plenty of issues I was aware of first. I think I paid less than $300 for it? All completely fixable though! I can't say how the new ones from the factory are, so if you want to take a chance I'd go through Sweetwater or another big retailer that can help resolve any issues with ease. Overall, I would buy this guitar again as it is a pretty good value when it comes to extended scale 8 strings. You can find them used for good prices. The main drawback to this guitar is the stock pickups. They are pretty muddy and not the best lol....
What a great series! I love this finishing technique and your tips. I have a question and I'd love to hear your take. I have a roasted maple neck which is several tones lighter than the roasted swamp ash body of the guitar. I'd like to get them closer in tone and I'll probably follow your steps to darken the neck. Contrary to your build, the fretboard is roasted maple and not rosewood. Any suggestions on treatment? I'd like to make sure staining and oil is also a good method or if fretboard staining and finishing should be done differently. Keep up the amazing work! Your videos are super detailed and help us (rookies) lots! Best regards from Amsterdam, NL!
Thank you! 😊 Before you stain the neck, wet the body and neck both down with Naphtha to see how they will look with oil on them (gets it pretty close). You may find that they both darken to a similar tone! When finishing the neck and fretboard, you'd do the same thing I did in the video except ALSO stain and finish the fretboard. Be sure to focus on sanding in between the frets as you don't want scratches showing after staining. It can be a pain to sand in between the frets lol.... Hope that helps! 😊
This helps a lot! Thanks again for your help and tips. Looking forward to learning more through your channel and projects! Have a great day!
@@brubecktime thanks for watching! Happy to help 😊
Man I’ve always wanted to swap out my Ibanez 7 string EMGs to these!!!! I just don’t have the balls to solder wires hahaha
You can do it! If you keep the wiring simple, it’s not too bad. 🤘🏻
Great video man! Just a quick question. What pickup height is used for active pickups such as fishmans?
Thank you! It can be personal preference, but what I like to do is start about 1/4” away from the strings on both sides. I then raise them up and play to get the desired volume I like. I repeat the same process for the neck pickup. Hope that helps!
@@AugmentGuitars I'll try that then! Thanks for the response! I was asking this because I feel like my neck pickup has more volume and sounds more like “in front” in comparison with the bridge pickup. I’m using fishmans moderns so maybe I have to re-check the height.
Yeah the neck pickup is usually a bit louder if both pickups are at the same height. I usually have my neck pickups lower and try to match the volume of the bridge. You’re on the right track!
This is my next project. Very well presented thank you.
If you need any help feel free to reach out! 🤘🏻
