I’m really enjoying your video! I can’t wait to try some of these combinations! I’m new-Handbuilding only.
I'm glad you enjoyed the video! Good luck with your handbuilding. 😊
Wow!
It’s a stunner! Thanks for watching. Good luck with your glazing. 😊
Really enjoy your calm videos. Also appreciate that you show how you glaze and show the kiln opening in the same video. Such a cute grands! I have ones that enjoy playing in the clay!
Thanks so much for watching and commenting. The kids always love time in the studio. Almost as much as I do! Enjoy your time with the grands. 😊
Love your stories and work! Also it’s great that you share the results at the end.
Glad you enjoy the videos. Thanks so much for watching and commenting. 😊
How lucky are you to pick up some wonderful plug in kilns, no such luck to find a cheap kiln in the UK ! But thankfully when I had lots of money 🤣 five years ago I have a great kiln in my studio. I love those mixing bowl 😊 and of course the mustang mug 👏
Thanks for watching. Yes I have been blessed to find some good old gems of a kiln that still work.
I love your glaze combinations! I am always so nervous to try different combinations with Amaco PC glazes, but you have given me some courage to try! Thanks for your inspiration!!
I’m so glad it helps. Just have fun with it. It’s all one big experiment. Funny thing is I forget what I did and sometimes have to go watch my own videos to remember a combination. 😊Good luck and enjoy!
😂
Me too
Your grandson is so cute
@@LianaOchsnerthat he is 😊 thank you. He loves to help!
Thank you so much for sharing your glaze combinations! They are amazing! 😍
I am glad you like them. Thanks for the comment. I hope they help you make pretty things. 😊
just to understand it correctly. 2x HF and then 2 thick layers of Iron Lustre?
Yes, I did horizontal drips of iron lustre first then a full coat of iron luster over all of it. It is a runner so be careful how thick you are close to the bottom. Good luck!!
@@healingearthceramics9472 Thank you so much for your reply. It looks amazing!
@@aidagrollov9130thanks, I loved it so much I couldn’t sell it. I drink coffee and tea out of it daily unless my granddaughter beats me to it! 😁
I will try this combo on light colored stoneware bisque. I can't throw - arthritis and neuropathy w tremors - yipe. Glazing is my hobby and I use mostly mold poured bisque pieces. Thanks for the tip!
Good luck with the glaze. Light clay is best as you suggest. It’s beautiful when it turns out.
Gorgeous! ❤
Thank you! 😊
I tried this and my seaweed over obsidian was a little darker blue. But I should've went heavier on the seaweed. I'll try it again. It looked nice but I wanted it lighter. The Ancient Copper worked amazingly. Thanks for the combo tip.
It could have something to do with the clay also. I use porcelain on the ancient copper and obsidian seaweed combo. Darker clays can cause darker results. I use 5 or more coats of seaweed when it’s high on the pot.
Beautiful
Thank you! 😊
I love what you do with River Birch. I've only used it once but I believe it does better with bowls and concave pieces. And combos. Awesome pieces. And I'm trying that combo with the bowl.
River Birch is great for combos! I’m glad you like the videos. Good luck with your attempt to use the combos. 😊
I found your video looking for a new combo for ramen bowls. This is beautiful! I enjoy the process videos because sometimes reading the number of coats of glazes isn't quite enough. Thank you so much for sharing. I look forward to watching more of your videos!
Thank you for the comment. Made my day. I’m so glad you find the videos helpful. I kept a set of those bowls and we use them frequently here in the cold winter. Good luck with your Ramen bowls! 😊
Thank you for sharing this. I'm struggling to get SM to look purple on Standard 112 clay. Can you clarify: Are the 3 coats of obsidian only on the inside and rime or also outside under the SM?
Definitely under the SM. Smoky Merlot is very hazy and lacks depth of color without the obsidian. Put 2-3 coats of obsidian then cover it with 3 coat of SM. Good luck. I hope it works well for you!
I just found you! I really enjoy your channel. I also enjoy your glaze combos.
Welcome!! Glad you finally arrived. I’ve been waiting on you. 😊 I hope you find the channel helpful.
Beautiful ❤
Thanks! 😊
I enjoyed watching your whole process & learned some great tips! Thanks & keep the good videos coming!
Thank you. Glad it is helpful. Thanks for watching! 😊
How many coats? Brushed on or dipped?
3 coats brushed. Cone 6 community kiln.
Thank you! Looks great. Don’t find the shinos to be runny?
@@MichaelTirrell-v3enot for me. They have been very stable.
What is the firing temperature of the glazes? can I get these results with a 1100 degree oven?
No. These are cone 5/6 glazes. Around 2160° - 2260°. Thanks for watching.
@ thank you for the video and the kindly reply
Hi there, I have been joining you from Ontario Canada. I just wanted to let you know how much I enjoy your videos and how much I have learned about glazing from you. I also find your voice voice very easy to listen to thank you for what you do and please keep it up.
Thank you so much for those kind words. I’m so glad the videos have been helpful to you. Thanks for watching and commenting.
I just came across your video, and the length is fine. The little nuggets of info you give are so appreciated. Impatient people will switch to another channel and never know the knowledge they have passed up. You are providing answers to questions they've yet to encounter.
Thank you for the comment. I’m so glad you enjoy the videos. Good luck in your art. 😊
Thank you for the information. Could you film horizontally rather than vertically. You can see so much more in horizontal aspect.
I’ll give it a try next time. Thanks for the suggestion.
Hi from Portugal! I watched all your videos, really amazing glazes and pieces. Could you tell me which colours you used on the brown jar - such beautiful mix! Thank you so much for sharing your brilliant work.
Here is the layering for the brown jar. I was excited when it came out of the kiln. Old Ancient copper on bottom, Base of Oatmeal on top with bands of Albany Slip Brown and Ancient Jasper over the Oatmeal. Porcelain jar, manual kiln, cone 6 no hold. 9.5 hour firing time. Thank you watching! 😊
beyond helpful!!
Glad you like it. Thanks for watching and commenting. I wish you well. 😊
You inspired me today with these combos. Fingers crossed! Could I ask what size kiln you are using in this video? Looks like the perfect size for me.
It is a 820 which means it is 8 sided kiln 20” deep. Not to big and not to small. Some similar are 818.
Great video! Really like the last mug you pulled out, the one for your granddaughter. I think it was the lapis blue with sunset pink? Loved how the glazes interacted with each other where they overlapped. Thanks for posting this.
Glad you liked it and I really appreciate you watching. It was lapis satin and sunset pink both Coyote glazes. Cheers!
Edit out or speed up in editing program the heat gun parts.
Thanks. I have started doing that with later videos. It is quite annoying. Thanks for watching.
how many coats of seaweed did you use?
After I applied 3 coats of obsidian I probably put 5 to 6 coats of seaweed. I wanted it to run and fade into the copper so I kept it on my banding wheel and just kept layering it up at the top ring and just below.
I make functional pottery that sells, it then supports the pieces I make for my creative pleasure.
I get that. All I try to do is cover my cost to the best of my ability. Good luck in all you do.
All of your pieces are beautiful, but that bowl is by far my favorite. Thanks for the streams!
So glad you like it. Thanks for watching. I hope the vids help you out.😊
@@healingearthceramics9472 the videos are definitely inspirational! I've only been doing this for 4 months but I'm becoming obsessed lol
@@lilig6422😊 that will happen.
Omg how funny!! Did you put it on the shelf upside down?
It was a second firing and I put high flux glaze on it which ran off. 😅
Wow! That bowl is so stunning! Cant wait to try it. Thanks so much.
I hope it turns out as nice for you. Thanks so much for watching! 😊
Beautiful! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks so much for watching. 😊
Darn. Ah well as they say we are always learning. So I will take note of that for future reference 😊
The one that stuck was a refire and I had put a high flux glaze on the outside to get rid of pinholes. The pinholes are gone!!! 😊
@@healingearthceramics9472 those pesky pinholes. Suck!!. I've had many pieces with pin holes. Not my kiln it's a mass firing at a studio, so I've no control. I'm about to do my first glaze fire in my cress-e1814-kiln. So I'll be waiting with anticipation. Trying to work out how to fire. Cone 5 to 6 on slow heat??????? I dunno 😕 😐 🤷
@@MeandmyfireflyEZCreationsI do cone 04 on my bisque and cone 6 slow heat taking about 9.5 hours. Good luck! I hope it goes well for you.
@@healingearthceramics9472 ok I did cone 5 slow medium speed and 10 minute hold. Eeeeeeeek I'm nervous about how it'll turn out
@@MeandmyfireflyEZCreationslet me know how it turns out.
Hello I am from Iceland. I love that combination you did, it turned out beautifully. I don't have Albany slip brown, but I've got the other two. As far as the weather...I agree with you, it is really heartbreaking to know of all the suffering caused by the extreme weather, involving both humans and animals. Here we´ve had the coldest summer since 1993. But I do not complain knowing how the weather has been elsewhere. Take care and thanks for sharing your video.
Hello, thank you for the comment. We have recently discussed visiting Iceland. 😊 The two glazes you have will make a very nice combination. I hope you find the videos helpful and I really appreciate you watching. I share more work on instagram as Healing Earth Ceramics and you are always welcome to message me with questions. Cheers!
@@healingearthceramics9472 Hello again! I am always trying out new combinations and glazes. If you'll decide to come to Iceland, please be in touch and we might be able to meet up and I could even show you and your wife around. However if it is in winder time, it'll be more difficult for me since I do have to drive over a mountain to get to Reykjavik and the conditions on the mountains aren't always good due to snow and the roads being slippery. If there's anything you'll want to ask about Iceland, shoot away and I'll try to answer them for you.
@@linda.s.gisladthank you so much Linda. That would be awesome to meet you and learn about Iceland from your local knowledge. If we make the trip I will be sure to reach out to you. 😊

Thank you! I will pass that along to my wife. She does a fantastic job on those. Thanks for watching.
What.......no cookies😅
Personal decisions not to, not an accident. This was a second firing and I thought it would be ok. I was wrong. 😅
Those color are so pretty !!!
Thank you!
That's why I generally use cookies. . .
I thought about but opt’ed not to.
Ok?

Glad you enjoyed it! I spent 30 years working in information systems sitting in offices and pods. Being retired and living in the woods is a blessing. We love it here. Thanks so much for your comment and for watching. I hope you find the videos helpful. 😊

I am what I am! 😊 Thanks for watching. No flashing lights and dancing pigs here. Just me making pottery while kids play.
Good job ! Very nice pieces !
Thank you very much. ❤
I just love your channel. I get so much from your glaze experiments. Today you also sold me on a shimpo wheel. I subscribe to your logic on cars and products. Thank you n
Hey, you can’t beat quality. Thanks for the comment. I’m really glad you find it helpful. I appreciate you watching. Give this one a try. It made a really neat bowl. 😊
I’m definitely trying the bowl. It’s beautiful. Ancient Jasper and oatmeal 😀
It's so good! I was definitely happy with the results. I hope it works well for you! 😊 Thanks for watching.
Question. My oatmeal always shrinks and pulls away. How are you stopping that?
Oatmeal, if it gets dry (thick) tends to shrink and crack. This is a new jar that is thinner than most that have sat on the shelf awhile. I add a little water to thin it if it gets thick and I put on thin coats. If it’s under something like in this case I tend to put the top coat on pretty quick to keep it from peeling and cracking. I hope this helps. Thanks for watching. 😊
you give great glaze❤
Thank you! I have a new video coming soon. I really love the bowl I highlight in it. I hope you do too. Thanks for watching. ❤
