In this video I show you how to glaze a bowl using a flux glaze and Smoky Merlot with Blue Rutile. After that I open the kiln and describe several different combos I have recently fired.

    on the bowl in the middle, was that ancient copper over textured turquoise? or vise versa? gorgeous outcome regardless.

      There is no Textured Turquoise in the middle stripe. Just Ancient Copper in the middle over lapping a little on the edges.

    If you want your sprinkles to run more add honey flux over or I suppose any flux, I love your combnations as I'm new to amaco glazes regards fr South Africa 🇿🇦

    Wonderful piece my friend! Not only are Amado glazes quite beautiful if applied correctly, but they are also quite predictable. I have never once had a problem with any Amado glazes.

    Thanks for the demo. Edit out the heat gun and it will be quicker. We are doing bowls of hope and I will try this on some of the bowls.

      I am not. Using the 2 manual kilns I have I fire to cone 6 glaze fire using a kiln sitter. No holds and it usually completes in 5 - 5 1/2 hours.

    At what temperature do you open up your kiln? I noticed that you are wearing gloves and just curious about the temperature… thnx 🌸your pieces are very nice

      I wait till it’s under 200°. I really don’t have to use the gloves generally but I do just in case I hit a hot piece that’s thicker or in a lower shelf I don’t expect. Just a precautionary measure and for my own comfort.

    The very high heat in your studio does not affect your glazes?

      It’s very temporary. Just for a few hours while firing. I have a mini split and it is usually 72-76 degrees in there most of the time. Love your screen name as I am in Pensacola with family as I type this reply. 🌊🏖️

    I always really enjoy your videos, the glaze application techniques and combos and of course the reveals! Wonderful to hear that Ancient Copper is making a comeback. It would have been a great loss to potters.

    Oh wow so the amaco celadons have been around for a while, i thought they were cool but had just released, i cant believe people dont do more with them

      I fire to cone 6. I have 2 old Duncan manual kilns so there is no hold. I usually go on Low for an hour, move to Medium for around 2 hours then go to High for 2 more hours. At the 5 hour mark I set it on High Fire and let it run till the kiln sitter trips which usually around 5.25 to 5.50 hours. It’s really quick but that’s how my old glaze kiln works. It get’s hot fast and gets the job done. I use my other kiln for bisque because it heats up slower. Hope this helps. Glad you liked the video.

    I’m curious how you applied the octopus motif! Did you hand paint it, apply it as an underglaze transfer, or screen print it? It turned out great!

    How many coats of each?

      The base coat would be 3. The drips are a little harder to say because they are just that, drips. I drag the brush across the rim and let it drip down. Sometimes I tap the bowl on my palm to get it to run down.
