Problems of DEATH'S GAME: is suicide a sin?
This is not a proper video essay, but more like a personal rant. A few months ago, I was watching Death’s Game on Amazon Prime, and got mad while watching it. Personally, I really dislike shows that use family relationship/romantic relationship/friendship to guilt-trip characters. The concept of "I raised you, hence you owe me" is deeply rooted in many families, and it can be seen in this show because the whole story starts from the main protagonist receiving punishment for commiting suicide, as this is deemed as a selfish, unfilial behavior to his family members.

I've always wondered that how come Japanese survival shows never get Squids Game's popularity and here I am, posting a video comparing Squid Game with some of the Japanese shows I like. Some Japanese survival series have been criticized for their over dramatic acting, awkward dialogues and dragging flashbacks; Some shows only have one female character; and manga fans usually find them less auth...

I think the Chi Ku (eating bitterness) culture has deep roots among Asian communities. This video is mainly focused on the problems it brings. Just like filial piety, this traditional virtue sometimes make Asian people miserable physically and mentally, instead of encouraging them to achieve their success. 【Keyword】 culture, virtue, chi ku, eating bitterness, model minority 【Credit】 SAN FRANCIS...

I can’t find the last kdrama anywhere
.
Honestly Korean man are so ugly and scrawny looking, with bad haircuts I can’t take any Korean drama seriously because of that
slavery culture for idiots
how weak and fragile you need to be to cry about such bullshit like this LMAO
What a cesspool!!!
Love In Sadness 2019 k dram is key show for this video! If youve watched Love in sadness you know
Stalking is huge problem in every country, but I see it being seen as romantic in kdramas. Such as A Daily Dose of Sunshine, The Glory, and even in Its Okay Not To Be Okay.
I kept waiting for the male lead in Business Proposal to get called out for his horrible behavior but it just never happened.
so if you dont like filial piety and think it's bullshit, then just strip yourself and absolve yourself of it. dont practice it and don't pass it on. i dont believe you're going to do this and honestly i think you're just full of shit because you're one of those weak lost asian women who have been westernized. okay then, be westernized and liberalized with all the stupid silly pronouns and non-binary gender nonsense. go chase your happiness instead of working with the values and virtues that your ancestors raised you on. if you think western culture has it all figured out with their endless divorce rates and single parent families, then good on you. if you think chasing happiness is more important than making sacrifices to your family, then clearly we all know where you stand. the fact of the matter is that asian countries have a denser population than western cultures. asians know how to navigate and deal with a large population, this is not by accident!! the virtues and ideals are of themselves abstract, these rules are set in place to keep families together so that the elders protect the young and the young can reciprocate. of course there is room for interpretation and therefore abuse. what you are describing is the abuse of this system. so let me ask you this, if you think it's bullshit, what is your solution to managing a huge family and a dense population in poor countries??? why is it that asian countries outperform other ethnicities when it comes to education, careers, and prosperity? why do asians work so hard and produce so much value for a given company? go anywhere around the world and you will find these values in asians, ESPECIALLY the first generation ones. it is because they are dedicated to providing for their families! why are asian countries like china, japan, and south korea leaders in engineering and sciences?? why are south east asian countries like taiwan malaysia indonesia vietnam thailand and other countries so successful with technologies and why are they continuing to rise and giving the world more and more value??? it's the same reason, they are willing to dedicate themselves to their family and their work so their children can have a better life. instead of talking smack about your roots and ancestry, why dont you pull your head out of your ass and come to your senses a little bit. you are way too myopic to see the big picture and what good it has done for you and for the rest of the world.
I’ve only seen these controlling behaviours in romantic dramas. Thriller dramas don’t sugarcoat the abuse that’s why it’s more satisfying to watch. And male lead might not succeed in saving despite all efforts. Ahhh, love thrillers and true crimes ❤
Queen of tears, Love next door, The atypical family, Love to hate you, Flower of Evil, Frankly Speaking, Shooting Stars
孝顺不等于爱
You need to watch the Mobbing of Kpop Idols and actors at the Airports, there's a large number of older women who are REGULAR/SERIAL Mobbers, that get very close and rub the celebrity....they are not pushed away like the younger ones are because of the Age Hierarchy ....
Wow I’ve never heard of it. I need to do some searches
@yuanProduction I recommend watching Newsen airport videos and a youtuber Celeb247 who walks behind the crowds. Also look at Lee Min-ho airport videos, they're gross. Other news youtubers to get a different angle are - star plus and rnx tv ent, both cover the airports.
This is why I wasn't into k-drama in 2000s. I find the male leads were breaking a lot boundaries.
Typical narcissistic behavior of self love and harsh domination...despicable...
0:37
1:55 Wth! It's hella abusive. Imagine happening with you ? 😢 6:45 This one made sense because she was not able to walk properly. And was behaving stubbornly so he did that. It showed concern
In any patriarchal culture, men feels their responsibility to protect women and when things are not getting as they wanted… they feel entitled to claim their due as they had provided security and all she needed previously. My Chinese parents warned me and my sister about this mentality and gives us the best education and be financially autonomous. As we live abroad, a man who overly protective are res flags to me.
Finally someone talking about moon young's behavior towards gang tae. The locker scene bothered me so much when I first watched it. I love that the drama focuses on mental health but they literally make gang tae fall in love with an abuser.
This is why I cannot watch most k-dramas. Theres nothing romantic about abusive behaviour and I’m not able to look past it anymore as an adult. It’s just very triggering and disturbing.
I agree with everything shown here, except one drama, Encounter, where the male lead knew the reason for break up and still decided to love her. He didn't force her, she came back. I've actually always rooted for the kindhearted guys. And I never understood why people romanticized violence. It always turns me off. I like Tsundere guys but there's a fine line between being Tsundere and being abusive.
I am soooo glad people are seeing what I've been seeing for a long time like they been normalizing women falling in love with their abusers
Is there a korean drama that at least show some healthy relationship or if not any kdramas that show the least abuse?
I like Run on!
I think it’s a scam. How do you define it even? People can go naked and do everything possible, just leaving out the penetration part. What about masturbation and toys? What about oral and anus? What about destroying your own hymen without anyone else involved? At which point are you still considered a “virgin”? The line is pretty blurry and seriously outdated to be honest.
And people wonder why I refuse to watch 99% of K-dramas. Always ending up normalising the abuse.
Spousal abuse against men has skyrocketed in the west. I remember this one book where a woman who came out of pretty horrible marriage , the super violent kind with her ex husband, she started to white about a book about abuse in marriages and then she started seeing how men are screwed over as well. One point she made was that even if the man was the victim, he could still end up going to jail because he "might" do something to her later. I honestly don't get the power trip on either sides in relationships. To me marriage is supposed to be a 50/50 thing to help support each other through this ordeal we call life.
is this a non fictional book? What is the name of it?
This makes me feel so uncomfortable.. its so sad how abuse towards a guy is normalized and funny. My boyfriend is korean and he described how old women want to touch the 🦐 of baby boys. How would we feel if old men said they want to touch a baby girl's (you know)? And he was pretty old, about 6-7 years old, and said that he felt uncomfortable, at that age, we are conscious of our naked body
Omg its horrible.. but i even see such behaviours a lot on Instagram. Women all laugh when they see a woman doing such thing, but if they saw a man doing something similar, theyd bury him alive. So fucking hypocritical
They are dumb And ayo Yes because men and women get Raped every day
when talking about serious topics it's pointless to view on KDrama especially Rom-Com genre, i'm a KDrama fan but imo Rom_Com genre is the genre that over-exaggerate everything of the Korea's lifestyle & society.
Nahhh. No man, regardless of race, would lay their hand and on me or yell and not expect me to not throw hands
Kinda undermining your point if you use examples like Namgoong Min in Remember as he's the villain, not the male lead. His behaviour isn't portrayed as normal, he's a monster!
Fantasy
When I watch it’s okay to not be okay, I see that like a criticism about sexual and psychological harassment in a reverse gender way , even if this was a side romantic way , this was compensed by the fact that we know the femelle character have psychological issues and bad behavior du to his psychopath mother. All the characters in this drama have mental problem and heal each other with teaching each other the good way of loving and respect someone . We see the evolution and it was so well and smart conducting . Particularly the harassment scene in the hotel when the lead female was drunk a bd assaulted the man. The young couple who gave them their place was talking outside and say something that I love . Who is the one who love the other the most? The one who is the more patient Yes the writer resume the drama in this sentence and show the good way to behave : you need to wait for the other to be ready to accept you , and you must be patient with the issues of the one you love . With that harassment doesn’t exist anymore .’
This kind of scenes are disgusting
I know this video is old but I enjoyed it and subscribed
Me 2
Although it’s Kdrama the reality is these types of behaviors Gone On in Real Life Sadly 😮
This is why I prefer new dramas from 2020 -2024
It’s quite a harrowing experience watching Japanese and Korean shows and realizing that many actors in those show already committed seppuku. This show is fun. Production design is quite good but like you said, it’s very victim blaming and doesn’t really address the structural problem that caused these seppuku events in the first place. Meanwhile, in contrast to Death’s Game, I find Godzilla Minus One a good example of anti-suicide media. It also has a message of appreciating life but also criticizing the Japanese culture big time. I would love to know your opinion on this movie.
ur right but boys over flowers is an exception because the whole series was legendary, it literally started all the way back in 1995
3:57 dat's like sh*tty human behavior honestly. You don't abandon your passenger in rural area. I literally had a huge argument in the car one time with a guy I was dating back then, and we were on our way back from a mountain. He still dropped me off at my place despite we absolutely hated each other at the moment. It's what decent human being would do.
It makes me uncomfortable and freaks me out when women especially harass/abuse men because you know as a woman how horrible it is to be a victim so for you to turn around and be abusive just adds extra layer disgust.
Ngl while kdramas should not romanticize abuse, if the the characters are all perfect people would complain that it’s unrealistic and will make the female viewers naive to think such men exist or that they have a chance with a ceo 😂
It’s normal if the boyfriend/husband shows protectiveness without putting the female lead in danger or hurting them emotionally.
To be fair, these are mainly old kdramas. Modern ones show strong and smart female leads.
Oh my ghost is probably my favorite kdrama.
For The FL in its okay to not be okay, I thought she was supposed to be a “psycho”? Like her action’s aren’t normal and/or condoned right? Nor is is it seem a her being “cool” just crazy. I don’t know correct me if I’m wrong
Boys over flowers is the worst kdrama ever, like wtf, second lead all the way
Look at this title! Just one of the parts of the WOKE virus!
