    Those teams are all too far spread out unfortunately. It may work for the big money conferences but travel would be too much in this league. Maybe there will be some sort of G5 conference merger though.

    Bring the entire mountain west in and become the pac 14 or just let it die and have Oregon st and Washington st join the mountain west. Either the outcome is the same. On second thought the two should merge and become the west 14. Naw that’s dumb.

    Colorado state, San Diego State, Boise, and Air Force along with the Pac 2 would be amazing additions to the AAC. Having a west wing would definitely be a true American conference. However, I would even go a step further. At this point why not make a deal to absorb all of the teams from the Mountain West conference. Having a big conference is a plus for future TV deals. Having more basketball teams in the NCAA tournament is great for revenue. Being a small conference is not beneficial for the future.

    Falsehood. It would not cost more for espn if wsu osu go to big 12. The revenue from wsu tv broadcasting is higher than az,asu,uu and cu, so they make more profit. If espn covers osu wsu in aac they dont make profit , so it would be a more costly move for them

    Bringing Oregon State and Washington State in as football only members would be a smart move. Boosts the AAC to the best G5 conference by far and adds fuel to the fire to eventually grab Air Force, Boise State, SDSU and UNLV. A National Conference. ESPN would love that.

    You don’t need UNLV. Put in Tulsa with SDStU, CStU, AF. The only schools from current AAC to be left out would be UNCC and Wichita State. You make all three service schools full members and could keep Wichita State and add a few other schools from WCC and Summit and Horizon non football leagues to have 24 Olympic sports schools and 20 football schools. So it would be as follows from the football side of things: OzzU, WazzU, Fresno, Boise SDStU, AF, CStU, Tulsa UNT, UTSA, Rice, Tulane Memphis, UAB, USF, FAU Army, Temple, Navy, ECU The Olympic Sports conference configuration would be the same plus the following division or pod of non football schools joined together: Wichita State, Oral Roberts, Gonzaga, St. Mary’s as non football but all Olympic sports pod/division OzzU, WazzU, Fresno, Boise SDStU, AFA, CStU, Tulsa UNT, UTSA, Rice, Tulane Memphis, USB, USF, FAU Army, Temple, Navy, ECU I do believe what I just created works well and contribute to the conference getting way more money than now at around 15-18 million dollars per year per school and maybe flirt with the 20 million dollars range.

    Let's stop pretending that Oregon State or Washington State have ever been relevant in college football or basketball. When the Big East crumbled and Cincy , UCF, USF, and Connecticut got relegated to G5 status. There wasn't any outrage. Cincy and Connecticut have far richer basketball histories than the Beavers or Cougars. They actually both appeared and won some BCS Bowls as well. What did those programs do though? UCONN basically shelved their football squad, moved to the Big East basketball league and dominated. USF went into an all in academic building mode and recently got AAU status. Now they are building a new football stadium. UCF and Cincy invested heavily into their football programs without any payout like Orrgon State and Washington State got. So what can the Beavers and Cougars do? How about trying to be relevant and invest into your program with your own dime. You've been PAC members for a hundred years and you've done nothing in that time. Oregon and Washington actually made themselves attractive. They just couldn't get their frumpy little sisters into the ball.

    So the Commissioner had nightmares about Rutgers traveling to Wisconsin. They do & the Big Ten is thriving because of it. If the AAC does it, the conference would be the undisputed best G5 and guaranteeing the CFP spot. That's what you want.

    I think the best option for OSU and WSU is to try to rebuild the Pac 12 as the best G5 league to have a good chance at the CFP. As an OSU alumni, would rather see a Big 12 invite, but very slim chance of that happening until the next round of media negotiations.

    I'm trying to understand why the AAC is trying to be righteous by saying they don't want a lot of travel between schools when EVERY P4 conference has schools from east to west. At least an East and West division should work better than the other conferences.

    The AAC already has a few members to help fill out a western division: Rice, UT San Antonio, North Texas and Tulane. OSU and WSU would make up members 5 & 6. Air Force and Colorado State plus maybe Boise and San Diego State would complete a 10 team division. The MWC payouts would plummet farther behind the AAC's.

    The question is, what are Oregon St. and Washington St.’s value to the AAC, Mountain West, or a Power 5? Their value is that they were in the Pac-12. However, if you never knew what conference they played in, would they have much value on their own? Computer says no. The Power 4 isn't fooled by that. Is it enough for the AAC or Mountain West? If you go to 20 in football, you could just play your division (9 games) plus 3 non conference. Then the AAC champ would almost be guaranteed the CFP G5 spot. It would nearly cut about 40 some G5 teams out of the conversation, so in that sense it'd be a very alpha move.

    • @milliesparks1692

      This is exactly the configuration I was thinking about too. It'd be so far above the other G5 leagues it'd be silly. Even if the AAC later lost a few members to the ACC, it'd be better positioned to remain the top G5 league by already having grown to 20 with two distinct divisions in the East and West.

    • @justinr658
      @justinr658 8 днів тому

      AAC makes the most out of the G5. Each AAC team makes over 7 million. MW makes around 4. SunBelt, CUSA and MAC make around 1 million each. So yes, getting the AAC is the goal for G5 teams if they can't make it to the P4. Cincy, Houston and UCF left the AAC to the Big 12 and they are making just over 40 million per team. So yes there's legit reason to leave the AAC for the P4.

    I like the idea of a western division in the American and having the service academies in the same conference feels just right. You only need about 6 to 8 schools to make it work for a western division. Also, the American can go with a tier media deal, having multiple media partners. I can see them cutting a deal with ESPN, CW, and a streaming service such as Apple. Combine that might be enough to increase the conference payout.

    🌊🌊🌊 There are at least scheduling opportunities available. AAC needs to be the strongest conference that it can be. Power 4 is what it is. IMO schedule Pac2 exclusively with AAC out 4 seasons? then make the inevitable happen. A bicoastal super-conference made up of the “best of the rest.” If you’re going to do it do it all the way. Power 4 conferences will not voluntarily allow any more seats at the table. The American is in a great position to make that happen.

      Still haven’t given up hope that this is the beginning of the return of the AAU as a pathway to future non-football sports realignment in to a more regionalized market.
