2 things, 1) the Eastern time zone schools are at a premium. Joining forces with the worst of the old PAC12 in the Pacific time zone is a non-starter. 2) Since it looks like there's going to be three tiers of FBS college conferences going forward; USF is angling to get into the mid-tier, the ACC or the BIG12.

Best option is a best of the rest conference. But the one you referenced isn't big enough. Here's how it should look:
West: Boise St, Oregon St, Wazzu, Fresno St, SDSU, UNLV, Utah St, Hawaii, Air Force, Colorado St, Gonzaga (Basketball only)
East: UTSA, Tulane, Memphis, USF, Troy, App St, Coastal Carolina, James Madison, Navy, Army, UConn (basketball only)
    > This give you a 22 (20 full members) team conference that remains stable even if a few teams get poached down the road.
    > It includes top markets like: San Diego, Las Vegas, Salt Lake, Denver, San Antonio, Memphis, New Orleans, Tampa, DC/Baltimore, and New York. Plus the national fan bases of Boise State, Air Force, Army, and Navy.
    > It includes Top Football teams like: Boise State, OSU, WSU, SDSU, Air Force, Fresno St, UTSA, Memphis, App St, CCU, & Navy
    > It includes Top Basketball teams like: Boise State, UNLV, SDSU, Memphis, Gonzaga, App St, JMU, & UConn
    > Conference Championship could rotate between Hawaii, San Diego, Las Vegas, New Orleans, & Tampa. Or be a neutral site like Arrowhead in KC, or U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.
Tell me this wouldn't be a freaking awesome conference.

Schools that belong in the ACC:
      Tulane
      Rice
      USF
      UConn
      Maybe:
      WashSt
      OrSt
      Memphis
      UT-SA
      Coastal Carolina
      Temple
      ECU
      App St
      Marshall
      James Madison
      Tulsa
      Liberty
      Never undervalue the service academies:
      Navy
      Army
      Airforce
Certainly SOME, but likely NOT all get strongly considered for additions to ACC.
The same schools are potential Big12 expansion targets as well, but likely only after ACC schools (though Big12 ought to go ahead & add OrSt & WashSt, Tulane, UConn, USF +1 (or all 3 service academies) before ACC does in a backfill).
Pac2 needs to seriously look at all those schools as well.
I like all the MW schools merged with all the AAC & Pac2 schools and select several additionally from the other 3 G5 conferences, some of which are listed above (& also add:
      La Tech,
      NMSt,
      Troy,
      UAB,
      Ohio, &
      Toledo,
      for example).
The list of top targets out of the MW just grew after last season. The only ones needing to prove something are Nevada and Hawaii (but everyone wants to play in Hawaii).
All these are valuable programs; especially if they start to play centrally and easterly:
      Colorado St
      Boise St
      Airforce
      Utah St
      SDSU
      Fresno St
      SJSU
      UNLV
      Even:
      Wyoming
      New Mexico
Why leave any of those out ? And if not, why leave the other 2 out ? Put some strings attached for Nevada & Hawaii, make them probationary maybe, but why leave them out.

I agree with you that a merger between the MWC and the Pac-12 is the most likely scenario. OSU & WSU are getting $7 mil each. By absorbing the MWC into the pac-12, it seems to me that that deal would be north of $10 mil a year at the minimum. At that point, perhaps UTSA and North Texas would be interested in joining the new Pac-12 for more money. You might even be able to convince Gonzaga to come into the conference since Hawaii is a football only member.

I feel from the start that California & Stanford made a huge mistake defecting to the ACC. There now in a worse spot because (when) Florida State & Clemson leave, they ironically become the best schools there and on top of that they have to travel all the way across the country back and forth to go against opposition that might not be an improvement over the Mountain West teams; yet alone Oregon State and Washington State. I’m certain they both don’t want to pay another million dollar+ incentive fee to go back to the Pac-whatever and thus have to be stuck there because of whatever their agreement was with the ACC to join in the first place.

Hey Trey, great episode. I think the rebuilt PAC-2 is feasible if Apple gets back on the board and green lights specific teams that they'd want in a new PAC conference. Remember, they were in the 11th hour, about to close that all-streaming PAC-12 deal before it all imploded, but there was definite interest there from them! If Apple gets back on board (presumably for less $ than previous offer) but enough $$ to close the deal, creates stipulations as to how many teams they'd like and WHICH teams they would accept into the conference, then the PAC can start poaching! Just my thoughts lmk what you think! I feel like Apple + Amazon have that unlimited money and this can be a great foot in the door for Apple to expand their CFB footprint as the sport grows + potential future expanded CFP streaming opportunities.

What is going to happen is that these jumpers are going to wind up dropping sports. Football, pays the freight, and covers costs for many non revenue sports. Now Oregon,U.C.L.A.,Washington, U.S.C. are going to have to pay so much more money to send non revenue teams, and this includes ALL WOMEN'S TEAMS,to New freaking Jersey. Only getting a great media deal would make it worth it. Think about this, if the playoffs continue to add a G5 team, and the committee is still willing to take an undefeated Liberty over a Super G5 champion with 2 losses, why would we want a harder schedule? Now, if the committee started choosing the best team again like they used to, and not simply the one with the best record, maybe. But i think they want the G5 team to look bad, so i have no confidence they pick the best team in the next few years. And who is gonna pay for the rights to make this all worth it? Espn? Idk. I fear that if the ACC collapses, other programs will suffer the same fate. I can't stand the SEC or the BIG. The networks have been forceing us to watch them and shoving them down our throats for years, Both can fall off the face of the earth for all I care. The only way to stop the power conference is to stop watching them thats what they fear. Some say if the G5 stopped watching the P4 they would loose up to 30% of it viewer ship. That would hurt them. Unfortunately, Greed has destroyed college football. The only tangible solution would be through government intervention. In theory I hope that college football gets redistributed to a more equal footing, because we are now staring down the face of a major shift of the have versus have nots. Prior to NIL/Portal, schools had the ability to really build teams and make championship runs, and now days that has all been lost to many kids just wanting to follow the almighty dollar.
I hope that many schools band together and fight through the court systems and fight to keep the leagues together. Honestly, to me the best solution is to break up all of the conferences and return them all to a system of 8 equal sized leagues all regionally based. Not Brands, regional (and Notre Dame will be relegated into a conference). Then each conference will play each other for a spot for a conference championship game. The conference championship game is the first round of the college football playoff. No more rankings, strength of schedule, etc... For the 2nd round, its based upon a random computer selection to determine matchups, and do so for the semi finals. It fair and equitable. AS for TV viewing, have the NCAA hold the grant of rights for all schools and then divide the revenues equally among the 8 conferences (this way to prevent schools from becoming too powerful). To me the focus should be on college education, college athletes, and simple regional rivalries. Not decisions made at ESPN.

As a Memphis fan, the last thing they want is taking the whole Mountain West. I say that with a heavy heart since both my boys got their degrees at Nevada...Go Pack...Go Tigers.

The power 3 will be SEC, Big10 & ACC. The others will be part of the G7. Group of 7
AAC, Mountain west, Pac 12, C-USA, big12 or Allstate 12. Mid American & Sunbelt. & I’m not a ACC fan. I just see the writing on the wall. The big 12 is not safe. They only have an “”extension”” of a tv deal. That’s all they have is “”extension”” not an actual tv deal. The ACC will probably take some of big 12 teams & maybe the pac 2 teams.

The Big 12 will be fine. The ACC is dead. And yes, you are an ACC fan if you really believe that.thar. Also, are you dumb? An extension is an actual TV deal. The ACC also signed an extension that kicks in for the 2027 season so using your logic the ACC doesn't have a real TV deal.

Climate change!!!! Oh and by the way we’re
making athletic conferences spread across the country and fly all over the place 🙄 All idiocy. Regional conferences make the most sense and everyone go independent in football.

College Football Expansion is driven top down. This means the B1G and SEC will NOT immediately expand. Why? Because both ESPN, Fox, and the 2 Conferences are digesting their recent adds at least for 2 years until the CFP changes. If these Conferences go to 21 schools, they will play no more than 1 OOC game and will probably go to zero OOC games. They will want 100% of the media time.
The B12 and ACC might sign a 2 OOC game per team scheduling arrangement. Both of these Conferences are waiting on the B1G and SEC to determine what they will do.
The PAC2 is finished. The MWC will merge as PacWest. They will NOT get AAC money, but might get $7 million per school.
The best of the rest Conference concept will NOT occur as an actual Conference. If the P4 drops the G5 in 2026 from the CFP, then a G5 CFP2 will occur. It will only include the Top 8 Teams; 5 Conference Champions and 3 best record, then highest net score.
