So much valuable history shared by a Keizer icon
When I went there, that van was parked out back stuffed with bags of shredded paper.
Yes, it was used for the school's recycling program!
This is just SO good!
Yes! We're so grateful to capture the memories of the old Keizer School to share with others!
Cool, thanks for posting.
I spent a lot of time in that Radio Shack after getting out of school in ... 1985?
The first 1:20 is on Broadway in north Salem. I do love this film. We moved into Keizer in September of 1986. So it reminds me of our first few years there. Thanks for posting it.
This is going North!
Back when cars still had some level of design and style.
I would love to volunteer
I remember going through the old Keizer schoolhouse after this move. My dad, Bart Bennett, designed the remodel of it while working for Carlson-Veit Architecture.
Thanks for sharing your memory and good connection with Keizer's historic school!
I attended Keizer School for its final years, the last half of 6th grade was spent in the new location, I really loved that school, I still have so many vivid memories from those days, I am so grateful this was filmed
Thanks for sharing your love of the old Keizer School. You are part of a special club in Keizer's history :-)
Great interview. Mr. Pease is such an important part of Keizer sports history and of course his outstanding Keizertimes sports columns!
Yes, Mr. Pease is a Keizer treasure!
3:28 this intersection is chemawa and river road ? correct
Yes, at this time (3:28) it is still west of River Road. The gray building is the saw shop (now Keizer Outdoor Power Equipment) and you can see the old Roth's (now Cascade Farm Supply) in the background.
I remember it well. Fun to look back at visual local history.
While she described various parts of Keizer and area, it would interest me to see maps and photos from the various locations and timelines.
Yes, visuals are a nice addition. There are some links in the description. We have lots of photos on our Facebook page and website: facebook.com/KeizerHistory/photos_albums
I was a freshman and I was part of this experience. It was so much fun
Glad you have this special memory!!
This was a great night! Reliving all of the Keizer history through my faither in law's eyes.
Taught in Vallejo California also .
Wow, I never knew McNary was this old. lol
McNary High School opened in 1965. Before that year Keizer residents attended North High School (and Salem HS before that :-)
@@keizerhistory I was fortunate enough to graduate from Mcnary in ‘85. Twenty years of being open; It was a milestone for the high school and students. Attending there from 81-85 so many fun memories and many friends; classmates and staff.
Amen. Thanks Dr. Hairston. Your beautiful song was on my mind today and touched my soul. I've been struggling and I know I need Him
The biggest change is the amount of people and the traffic. She sounds like my older sister. She had horses and was always was riding her horses around mostly around the farm areas on Windsor Is. Rd. She rode her horse in the Keizer parade back in the late 50s. I remember Labish Stables which was around where Target is now. - Our house got flooded in the 1964 flood, on Joan Dr. Mom and I left and stayed with family. And dad stayed with the house to protect it from vandals. We had a two story house, so dad stayed on the second story with our german shepherd and cat. They would bring him food by helicopter, and dad would go out on the garage roof, which was flat, to get it. After that we had to live in our driveway in a mobile home until the house got repaired.
Thank you, Julie, for sharing your Keizer history! You have a lot of great stories to tell :-)
I went to Keizer Elementary starting in 1966. I got lost the first day. I was in line to go to the lunch room and got switched over into the wrong line, and ended up in a second grade classroom. They had called my mother about me being lost. They finally found me in that classroom.
Quite the Keizer School memory! Thanks for sharing :-)
Just thinking how Keizer has changed as I was coming from Salem today. Wish we had a video like this from the 60s when I was a kid. Nice to see the old school on the corner. Wish the traffic was the same.
Yes, a 1960s video would be great! Maybe there are some old Keizer parade home movies out there somewhere??!!
thank you for filming this.
We're thankful we have this video to share with the community :-)
