What Do You Get When You Put A Mountain In A Man?
I was going to say Edward G! Pretty good
I enjoyed the review Pat 👍
Always nice to see the fire going Paladin. For a guy who doesn't like Latakia, I found Northwoods to be a very enjoyable blend. Have you ever tried Nutty Irishman blend ? It has a wonderful Burley, nutty taste. You can get it in bulk from Smokingpipes.
I tell ya I love Latakia. Heavy Latakia, but one of goto blends is HGL. When you mix Latakia with a good unsweetened Black Cavendish like that does you get a flavor that is for me, to die for. I have a question, what do you think of the new Prince Albert? I have a source where Im still getting the Tucker, GA stuff. Am I gonna be upset?
Thank for the review
Good to hear from you Paul!
Sounds great, you'll be glad to know I've added it to the "Tobaccos to try but STG will probably get rid of it so why bother" list. I'll be over in the corner pouting if anyone needs me. 🤣
I know….dont get me started.
Great review…sounds like one I’ll have to try. Thanks for the reco 👍😀
Anytime!
I got a pouch of this from @TheNorthGAPiper recently. Looking forward to trying it! Thanks for the tasting notes!
they also have john bull pipes
Yep!
Sounds pretty good, I like Edward G occasionally. I've considered ordering some of this before, but never did. With ya on the burley.
Well now that Eddie G is being cut from the roster 🙄
I tried a few pouches. Not bad at all.
👍🏻😉
Sounds like a good blend! Great video Buddy!
Thanks Everett!
Always wanted to try this. I like Scotty’s Stonewall at P&C so gonna get a few pouches of this. Oh your EG Robinson brought back fond memories
Yep.
I am nearing the end of my first year of piping. I do like one Burley that I have (Crooner). And I just opened (nine months after purchasing) another but different Burley (Gawith Hoggarth & Co.: Kendal Kentucky Vintage Cut). The first bowl was really yummy. I thought; "I wish all of my tobaccos, tried-to-date, were just as distinctly tobacco tasting as this." But then I tried it in another pipe (larger bowl diameter), and it was not as good as the first bowl. So I went back to that first pipe. And again...not as tasty as the first bowl but closer. Is this just something to expect? That a tobacco may be great that first bowl...but then not be as great, yet still good, the following smokes? And should I plan to try and only have the second Burley, Kendall Kentucky, once a week, or so, etc.? And basically finding the interval that makes it great each time? I have learned some of my tobacco blends are just tastier in certain pipes. This seemed strange to me at first...but I'm catching on. My larger diameter bowl pipes, nearing 7/8" to 15/16" diameter, are better with mellow Aro's to semi-Aro's...and some blends w/Burley in them. I am finding the smaller diameter bowl pipes, 21/32' to 13/16", prefer English, some to most Burley, and other non-Aro blends. I have some Clay pipes, numerous Cob pipes, and numerous briar pipes. I need to start taking literal notes... because my mental notes fade away. Strange how that works...at 62 yrs, LOL. Perhaps sticking with only one pipe (maybe two or three) and one tobacco you enjoy in that pipe has it's benefits. I went "overboard" with near forty pipes (half are clay or cob) and 200+ blends to try. And I've tried more than three dozen of those blends to date; enjoying perhaps only a handful which leave me thinking "I want this one around...always."
Yes tastes can change sometime daily depending on so many factors! I completely believe the the pipe chooses the tobacco or vice versa. Once the nirvana smoke happens with said blend in said pipe they don’t get swapped as a general rule!
@@PaladinPiper Thanks for responding. Yeah...previously, I was simply rotating through all of my pipes. But recently I have come to realize some tobaccos are just better in some style of, or even just one, pipe. I was also trying to pack and tamp just as I did previously...but in a different pipe. LOL, wondering "what am I doing differently?" Now I realize the pipe, itself, makes a good portion of the difference. Then there's all of those other varying factors.
@@Roh_EchtI'm convinced it's just one of those things with pipes. There are so many factors that go into a pleasurable experience and it's very temperamental, but that is where the quest for better kinda becomes something pleasurable in itself when it works out. It becomes more satisfying and has a bit more meaning to it.
Interesting... Thanks for this, Pat! I hope your 2025 is off to a great start. 😊
Yours too Randy!
You had me at Edward G. Robinson! Especially if EGR is discontinued by the current Sutliff drama. I tried C&D’s Autumn Evening over Christmas break; I really liked it!
I think it is going to be…..per the new letter released. 😢
@ I saw the list on Hobbitonpiper’s latest post! That stinks!
Hello thanks for sharing 👋🔥☁️☁️
Thanks for the review! You could buy several pouches & jar them up, maybe. 👍😃☀️🌵
Yup!
Thanks Pat! Sounds pretty good
Don’t believe I’ve tried John Bull. It sounds pleasant
You’d def like the original
Never had a John Bull blend. Sounds pretty good!
I was pleased for sure!
I get marshmallow and a little nuttiness from this blend, not much cocoa to my nose or taste. Burns fast but behaves well. I don't typically smoke aromatics, though, so I may not be as attuned to the nuances. I like this better than other aromatics I've tried.
It’s great IMO. I swear it’s the old old PA recipe. I hope it doesn’t go away!
As a former cigarette smoker, longtime cigar smoker, OJK is the lens I wish I would have started with almost a decade ago. Nicotine hit many claim to get, I don’t. Yes, there’s nicotine there but not in droves. Absolutely pure tobacco flavor. A manly blend. For those seeking flavor, this is it. And it’s a good flavor at that. Definitely making sure I order at least 4l ounces with every order I place in 2025. It’s what your grandfather would smoke. When men were MEN. Can’t wait to see what some cellar time would do to this blend. Great review as always. Thanks for this.
Thanks for commenting! Have a good rest of your week!
Hello great video thanks for sharing, Happy New Year 🍀 👋🔥☁️☁️
Happy New year to you!
@PaladinPiper Thanks 👋
This was yet another bingeworthy series!
Ha! Thanks Ethan!
I knew Half and Half would be the winner! Enjoyed the breakdown. Hope you have a very blessed 2025!
Yeah I have a half a problem 🤣🤣🤣 You too buddy!!!
Hiyas Pat, Thanks for sharing your 2024 tobacco review with us. I do find it both enjoyable and interesting to see what other pipers like and don't like. Here's to a peaceful 2025.
You too Gary! Thank you for the support!
Bangle slices at least on my tin says Sutliff. I know there is a chance they produced it for standard.
Yeah that may very well be the case. And it may be gone in the future 🤷🏻♂️
@PaladinPiper just enjoy what you can while you can.
What are your favorite blends of all time?
Wow I have too many to count! I should probably do a video on that!
Happy New Year. That’s a good looking pipe!
Thanks and Happy new year!
Happy new years my friend. Have fun and be safe
You too Jake!
Thank ypu drink something yummy
Respect the thoughts. I do not agree 100%, but truly respect the thoughts - FFS we don't have to agree, but I respect the opinion. Your son exploring the world of MMA is awesome. In the "fight world" one person WINS and one person LEARNS. Tell me what is more important. Peace and happy 2025 to you and yours.
😊👍🏻
Dreams of Kadath is one of the absolute WORST blends I have ever tried! That is one “funky monkey”! Sorry to hear about the ring! Prayers for your dad. HAPPY NEW YEAR, Pat!
Thanks Cliff!
I found my favorite aromatics are Sutlif cherry canendish and vanilla black.
Buy it while you can! May be going away…..
@@PaladinPiper I have been, stockpiling what i can. Happy new year!
Happy new year
Happy New year to you!
Pat, Happy New Year. Ed
Happy New Year Ed!
Nice list. Funny how different pallets can be... Dreams of Kadath is one of my top 3 of all time. That's the beauty of the pipe!
Yeah so many people said it was great. I just couldn’t like it at all 🤷🏻♂️
Thanks for sharing about your digestive issues! I have had a LOT of them myself. I was just diagnosed with Crohn's Disease in my small intestines where the small intestines start and end. I know your struggle with bouts of abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, etc. It's stressful to lose weight and not know why. It's really awful to try and go about your day when it feels like your stomach is being stabbed and you are so tired you just want to go lay down. I hope your diet still works for you! I tried cutting out carbs but found I needed them to function--probably because of malabsorption. People kept telling me I had ulcers or acid reflux or what have you. I'm so glad I went to a GI who gave me an endoscopy/colonoscopy. I've been on treatments for a month and a half and feel like a new man! It definitely runs in the family: my Dad has had intermittent GI issues for years but was just diagnosed with the same thing thanks to me pushing him. So if your half sister has it, I'd definitely keep an eye on it. My poor Dad went undiagnosed for so long he now has obstructions. He was mostly unsymptomatic for years other than difficulty keeping on weight. I probably shouldn't, but I am smoking some Quiet Nights hahaha. Honestly, pipe smoking is one of things keeping me sane with all the corticosteroids I'm taking.
Wow !!! Carter Hall #2 , would never had thought that a year or so ago.
I know right. I gotta admit it.
The Bass Piper talks about some cherry blends he likes it was interesting . Hope y'all have a great year. Happy New Year
Happy New Year Al!
Thanks for sharing all you did Pat. 285 BLENDS IN ONE YEAR, WOW !!!. I like your term optimistic realist, Hope you have a Great start to 2025 and Take Care and God Bless
You too buddy!!!!
I know you wanted to make Carter Hall #1. 2025 is going to be a good year, I can feel it. Prayers for your dad.
🙏🏼 Thanks buddy!
Thanks for sharing this with us. I appreciate you keeping the vintage, codger style. It has been an inspiration to me.
Thank you for the kind words! It’s where I live in my mind🤣
@PaladinPiper you're welcome
Has it already been more than a year ago that you discovered The Merry Monk?
Yes sir. Time flies when you’re having fun….orrrr smoking a pipe 🤣
Hey Pat! That's quite the year-end recap. 👍 I was surprised to see you smoking the meer, given your tempestuous relationship. Glad you've found something it likes. I enjoyed the tobacco lists. Sorry to hear that your wife lost her ring...thats rough. Glad they're figuring out what's been wrong with Hondo. And really sorry to hear your dad is back in the hospital. Praying for that. Loved hearing your "goods" for the year. Glad the homeschooling is going well. I don't know how i would have managed without being homeschooled. Im very thankful for it. It can be really hard, but really good to. Hang in there. Wishing you all a blessed remainder of the Christmas season, a blessed New Year.
Thank you for all the support buddy!
Thanks for sharing…Happier New Year to you and your family & friends 👍😀
Happy New Year to you and your family, Pat!
Great looking pipe and a nice list😊 happy new year
Hey Pat! Enjoyed the video. I hope your family has a great 2025.
Thanks Kirk
I logged all of my smokes for 2024. I need to finish entering them all into a spreadsheet for tabulation. I picked up a tub of both Carter Hall and Prince Albert at a grocery store while we were in North Carolina. Good thing I brought some extra cash, as days after the hurricane the store still couldn't process credit cards. I could tell that North Carolina was a bit more tobacco friendly than we are over here in the Yankee plains!
Hahaaah yeah heck even where I live in KY hates tobacco🙄
