Why does this look worse than the first one
Game visual preferences vary from person to person.
The first rts that I saw was Age of empires, I was just amazed by it, but my PC couldn't handle it at the time, a friend of mine gave me a genesis emulator and it came with a rom of dune 2, it was slow, and you could say a dumbed down version of the original dune 2 but it scratched that itch of rts gameplay for someone who didnt had any, so i really liked it, what i like of dune 2000 is that infantry has a purpose, even tho are weak, and can get crushed, the can do some damage used right, what i don't like is the 1 clic controls and the lack of hotkeys on buildings. Nice video it really pays homage to an often overlooked game
Thanks for sharing a few of your thoughts and cool experiences with the game! And thank you for the feedback, good to hear you liked the video.
i wish there have been more clans to choose , not only 3 , but overall it was a really good game :)
I would check the modding and mapping community for that. There have been some very cool developments in the past few years, custom campaigns and factions with many new units being one of them. I recommend playing "Summer's Solstice" if interested. Some relevant links are in the video description too. :)
What's that jazz music piece you were using?
It's music from the KKND 2 soundtrack. You can look up Survivor Theme 3, if that's the track you are referring to.
Ah my Childhood epic strategy games
Good times, no doubt!
@@SkorvionGames Indeed you should check out Warwind and Warwind 2 those are super obscure but neat games
Just looked into the Warwind games, as I haven't run into them up until this point. Seems like an interesting vibe. Thank you for the suggestion!
Survivor 3rd OST = Tonight we dine in hell!!!
The music certainly adds a well fitting vibe.
Underrated RTS.
It is always nice to see more people find value in it, in their own ways, luckily even to this day.
This game is awesome and heavily underrated IMO. I used to love the co-op mode on the PlayStation! Great video, BTW!
Glad you liked the video! The old PlayStation co-op mode was magical for me as well, with many cool split-screen moments.
Still play this game with BOTs.
Good to hear! Keep on enjoying it!
I lost (enjoyed) hundreds of hours of dune 2 as a teenager/YA. Was the first multiplayer game I and my friends ever played bringing two PCs physically together via a cable to play multiplayer.
Very nice to hear about that! Thank you for sharing this part of your Dune experience. I'm sure it must have been a ton of fun for you and your friends back then.
5:56 oh hi Dark Colony sound!
It still has the best Harkonnen Devastator.
Yes, I feel that the heavy tank style Devastator is definitely a classic to appreciate.
@@SkorvionGames By the way I think that EbfD urgently needs it too. Next years should prove if it is possible, because there are attempts now to crack the 3d model format of the game. And who knows, maybe a mod tool package will be possible.
It would be amazing if EbfD got more tools and solutions for easier modding. The Dune 2000 community has already done wonders in the last few years, so I hope that progress eventually helps EbfD as well to a notably higher degree than what I've seen so far. I'm very grateful for all the dedicated and skilled modders we have out there doing their best to make the games more accessible and editable going forward. Hoping to see more good things in the future!
i could run Red Alert perfectly with my 486 dx4100 with 16 edo ram and 1 meg trident isa video card but that was the limited... when this game came out dune 2000 i really wanted to play it but just couldnt buy it you needed a Pentium 90 with a 2meg Pci card this was the era when i stopped buying pc games and gave up
Thanks for sharing. It's relatively easy to set up and play the game nowadays, so anyone interested can still experience it.

Pretty much that exact scenario you described is something I went through in the Twisted Insurrection mod for the latest GDI mission. Saving the armed civilians and minimising the loss to just one trooper and avoid attacking the civilians as well due to weird house choices by the designer. It can be frustrating but whenever I play as GDI I have to save everyone that I can. 😂 This mission looks neat, where could I find it/more of them?

Mission design can be quite difficult from the developer's end, as we have to stay aware enough from multiple perspectives on how it plays out, beside the technical aspects. I've played a bit of TW in the past as well, but haven't followed their development in a long while now. The map I featured in this video is of my own design and is part of a short series of missions I've made for fun. I haven't made any of them available for public download yet, so I unfortunately don't have a download location for you to try it out first hand at the moment. I too often have the urge save everyone I can in games in the right context, a bit of my good natured personality always leaks through there, so I get that part. Also, thanks for watching the video and for sharing some of your thoughts!
@@SkorvionGames understood. I should probably say I didnt want to throw shade at the TI team for not anticipating that. But I do really appreciate designers that consider the players choice to that level of depth. I've never gone further than sculpting maps or writing out plans for TS and RA2 maps but multiple choices and open paths were always at the heart of them and I think for more than half of the concepts I played with open ends to the mission was something I would have wanted. The triggers Westwood put into TS that allowed that were GOATed. The mission series that saw GDI take on the chemical missile plant with I think four variants of the actual mission depending on your choices is something I dont think I have ever seen replicated elsewhere and it still blows my mind that undertook that.
@@squishymusic9723 Map design is complicated, yeah, from visuals to gameplay to how it all works in scripts and the backend. All the more reason to appreciate the little things and when something feels good while playing. And agreed, it was really nice to see choices impact missions in the Westwood campaigns. I fondly remember seeing the different map starting positions and effects in certain parts of the campaigns. It added a bit of an extra cool feeling to the whole thing, making the mission selection geo map feel a bit more useful rather than just an aesthetic immersion type of thing.
I hope this game remake or KKND3
You never know what the future might hold. Would be interesting to experience!
The best thing about Dune 2000 was the atmosphere of the game. Top tier music. The gameplay was a remake of Dune 2 and was unremarkable. Barely any difference between the houses, bad pathing etc. Still, despite all that, I love Dune 2000.
Good to hear that you love the game, its OST and the overall atmosphere! It's always nice to hear of others' appreciation for Dune 2000, so thank you for sharing your view of the game with us here!
love Tiberian Sun
Many of us do too!
It's just the same Tiberian Dawn and Red Alert 1 reskin, or to be fair it's the closest thing we get to Dune 2 remaster. Because Dune 2's unit and structure aesthetics is more gearing towards mix of 1980s Japanese Cyberpunk anime designs such as Akira(An excellent 1988 anime) and real life military equipment designs especially the Atreides light infantry looks similar to real life modern day soldier. Then, Dune 2000 returns to the original steampunk style from Frank Herbert books and 1984 David Lynch's movie(Heck, they even rip off the scenes from that movie into the game's cutscenes.).
Styles can influence each other, as everything is built either upon or just inspired by a selection of other things that come before it. Some of it is of course very intentional, like the Lynch aesthetics based on the movies. It's interesting to think about. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this!
I played the original Dune 2 a lot with my friend on his 486 wheen it came out in 1992 (?). Some of the best memories of my gaming life.
That's great to hear! Dune 2 was a really cool experience back in the day!
@@SkorvionGames It was my first exposure to the Dune universe, and it always kept a special place in my heart.
That's really nice. Glad you got to experience it and now have those memories and appreciation to keep onward.
The accomplishment if this game goes mostly to Frank Herbert and Frank Klepacki.
Both the setting and music have done a lot for the game, but I would like to add that it is also important to acknowledge all of the effort that goes on in game development itself. Especially back then when things were not so streamlined and simple on the technical side of things. No game is perfect, of course, but Dune 2000 is loved by many even today due to the results of all of the people who put their energy into making it what it is.
@@SkorvionGames I am not downplaying the contribution that programmers have to a game (they do the most work), but as a player you don't see that and it's not what you enjoy.
Fair point from the player's perspective, I understand what you mean. I felt like adding in a bit of appreciation for the developers. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
i remember first playing dune 2 on the genesis/megadrive and loving it and sinking many hours into it. then one fear i went on holiday and got a 3 in pack because dune 2000 but it also had wing commander prophecy and blade runner. at the time i dident apprieciate dune 2000 for what it was and thought of it more as a red alert total conversion. blade runner blew my mind, wing commander was meh
Seems like you were very much part of that innovative era of games. There is much to appreciate, especially when the games are still fondly played to this day, even after some (seemingly) official abandonment. Thanks for sharing some of your thoughts with us here!
@@SkorvionGames back in the golden era of gaming. I miss those days it's just fps nowadays and games that demand infinity time
There are games and such experiences for everyone out there, just maybe not in the mainstream spotlight as often, as the world and game dev industry has changed a lot over the years.
This video isn't actually a review. You didn't critique the game at all. You didn't say anything about whether any given aspect is good or bad. You just described what the game is, which is... cool I guess? It's just not a review. Like a joke where the punchline never comes.
I labeled this type of video as an "inspirational" review, as I wanted to help inspire the feelings and drive I have for playing the game in others, all while covering it in a way that shows what the game is generally about, as well as to give the game in question an optimistic tribute. Looking back, I do think I should have devoted more time into highlighting some other aspects of the game that would balance things out a bit more in line with your feedback. Perhaps then it would have held up better as a review. I'll keep that in mind for the future, if and when applicable. Thank you for your honest thoughts and input!
아 진짜 시작부터 미쳤네 ㅋㅋㅋ
Thanks for watching the video!
The music in this game is great but I've heard a lot of it is stolen. My favourite track, survivor's track 2, was original from a band called refo:mation. I dunno if they were credited.
I recall reading something about that a long time ago, random comments here and there, but I don't think that I ever looked into it enough to verify anything. Whatever the case may be, the music sounds great in its own right (to my taste at least), and I'm very grateful for running into the tracks back in my childhood days as part of the game.
Thank you
You're welcome.
Oh, and i managed to play Emperor of dune on windows 11 too.😊
Always nice to hear that the games are being played on modern systems!
I play this until today at grund mod.. 😊 but im not buy this " mobile " version 4x crap dune . There is no Story campaign ( and no Ordos!! I dont care what the book series / film says!!) I liked to blew up enemy base with the Ordos deserteur!!😅
You can always enjoy the classics you like so much. The community has done a nice job keeping the game alive. Thanks for sharing and I hope you have many more cool experiences with Dune 2000 in the future as well, so enjoy.
Kknd 1 is moore better
Everyone has a preference. Good to hear you enjoy the first game!
you forgot some important parts why this game is still trash. 1) It doesn't matter which fraction all units are the same. Its more like they have different models but not real diversity like in c&c Tiberium Sun. 2) The hitbox othe units is so huge that they would stuck everywhere. You just have to wait enough that the enemy produce so much big units that they stuck somewhere and you actually don't need to buld defence. But if they able to free them self, than everything comes at once.
I never claim any game is perfect, as yes, your points are valid in some cases, but calling it trash is a disservice to all of the people who put effort into making it a reality. Perhaps they tried their best to make it as balanced and diverse as they could? We don't know, or at least I personally don't. But having game dev experience myself and often seeing how difficult such a project can be to properly develop, especially back then with limited tech and resources, I choose to be grateful for what the game is, and appreciate my time with it, flaws and all. With my limited understanding of the game's dev background. Perhaps modders have found ways to mitigate the issues you mention in the meantime. Tiberian Sun has its fair share of issues as well, but I love it just as much.
I was never able to beat the game, but I love the whole thing, I want to point out that the music is extraordinary
You had fun and enjoyed the game, so I think that's a very nice win regardless! Good to hear that you loved it!
Emperor Battle for Dune was much better.Dune 2000 graphics and mechanic was much worse then Red Alert 1 , or first C&C.Dune 2000 is in my opinion the worst game from Westwood Studios.
Thanks for sharing your view. The game can't fully appeal to everyone of course, and might very well be less developed or polished in some regards compared to other games. Regardless, it remains a classic that many of us hold dear to our hearts for various reasons.
@@SkorvionGames Nostalgia is a strong feeling.
Where can one buy this?
There is additional information in the video description, linking to the GOG.com store version of the game, but you should be able to find it on Steam nowadays as well.
Everything is improved with tiberium
Depends on perspective, but from a nostalgic C&C view in this case, then yes. Just more vibes and content to enjoy.
I consider the gameplay with the units the strong point tbh, compared to Red Alert 3 which I consider one of the worst RTS. I mostly like the cinematics though, the actors are great in RA3, but the units are weird af and too much micromanagement, not to mention the weird way of getting resources and the need of an ally. Yep, Dune 2000 is still great!
It's sometimes hard to compare games from different times, as so much happens in between with the industry and players. But certainly, we can enjoy them for what they are and discuss how each comes into it's own form of legacy, with flaws and all. :)
My compact disk with this game broken in my cd drive (((( Listening to Survivors Theme 03 till this day ))))

@@lucidhooded4147Glad you think so. Thank you!
I found the survivors' jazz theme nostalgic already upon release 20 years ago. A beutiful theme I'll never forget
No doubt there are many other players who feel about it just as you do. It's a great soundtrack, for sure.
i'll always be saddened that Ordos never got canon adaptation in future books/media. they add a completely different mindset to the setting of Dune and i appreciate their inclusion a lot. they almost feel like a brotherhood of nod that's had it's fanaticism swapped with corporatism.
I'd imagine a side book on Ordos dealings might of perhaps been tied to Ix and Tleilaxu houses in some shady capacity as well, potentially. Acquisition of forbidden tech and all that being a fitting theme for Ordos doctrine. It's interesting to consider what might have been explored or expanded on in other media, as you say.
I just wonder, why do most Community made-missions don't include crates in their levels? I understand that the vanilla RA2 and TS sometimes didn't have crates scattered around the original campaign map. But only in Sage engine games where they included crates. But it is kinda cool to have crates being put in certain parts of the levels as a reward for exploration. Like.. i remember one Nod mission in Tiberium Wars where we have escort a truck to Temple Prime, in the early game we're given a small squad, like one commandos, & 2 shadow team. If we use the shadow team to explore on left side of the map and the bottom, we'll find some health and cash crate, which is kinda rewarding for players that want some extra funds. But in most community maps, crates are barely used, and we barely see them. Is there an explanation for the design decisions like this? :)
I think it might have to do with the initial approach. In competitive-focused maps, notably mirrored ones, the crates would likely add a randomness factor that could destabilize the intended balance and tournament-like fairness of the experience. In narrative-focused missions, crates are useful if the designer can set it to give a predetermined (accounted for) benefit, so as to avoid accidentally hindering or overpowering the player in that particular setting. So it depends on what a designer is going for. Do note however, that most people are not professional designers (in the community) and might often be improvising or learning as the go. But then again, if the wider community has passively set up a culture in which maps without crates are preferred or played more often, that might influence future map development and help propagate it as the default way of doing things. Any of these factors could play a part in what you're wondering about, but it's ultimately down to the map designer, their knowledge of how crates work, and the direction they want to go with the end-user experience. A development team might have different ideas amongst themselves as to what serves the game better, so compromises or inconsistencies might happen as well. I can only really speak for myself as to my own approach with certainty. I personally love bonus crates, but chose not to focus on them too much in my missions. For example, rather than a health crate, I opted to reward the player with a medic at one point. It's down to design preference, I feel, but also to making decisions based on what serves the experience better rather than what we personally enjoy editing in. Albeit, the way we go about doing that is often subjective, otherwise we wouldn't have any fun in designing maps. :)
Love this game! Great video!
Thanks! Nice to hear that you love the game as well!
I loved this game back in the days...

@@SkorvionGames Thank you very much! One question though: I can't find the full soundtrack on UA-cam, just the themes. Where can I find, for example, the track that is played in your video at the very end (the one that sounds very "jazy")? I would love to listen to that full soundtrack again.
@@SkorvionGames Oh and by the way: I really loved your philosophical words about the getting along-thing. Never thought that philosophy and KKND 2 would be compatible. My tow brothers, woho are twins and often try to anger, provoke or tease each other, sometimes cite these words ironically: "Nein, manche kommen einfach nicht miteinander aus" (german version of "no, some groups just don't get along").
@@michaelm.4618 The soundtrack consists of 3 tracks per faction, so 9 in total. The jazzy one should be Survivor track 3. Here's a playlist someone compiled on UA-cam for easy reference if that helps a little bit: ua-cam.com/play/PLC10A4EDC7F7311F2.html
@@michaelm.4618 Ah, glad you liked that little philosophical addition! Value can be pulled from anything, with the right context and multi perspective thinking in mind. I'm very glad you found that a worthy addition, as it's something I like to pitch in any video if applicable. :)

I don't think I'm properly qualified to say, because I haven't played the first game enough to have a good sense of how they compare in that sense. So I'm afraid I don't have any useful insight on that note as of yet. To me, KKND 2 feels faster paced with units dying quickly, so it might be a more intense feeling than the first game perhaps.
When Tiberian Sun came out I had already played the original Tiberian Dawn and Red Alert. Since it was a sequel I expected if they were going to releases Red Alert 2 it would tie the timelines together in a cohesive narrative. Then EA happened.
Sometimes development plans change, other times those with power over a series' direction change. Production pipelines and project direction are unfortunately rarely ideal it seems. Either way, a lot of good has come out of the series as a whole, and there is still much to be enjoyed with what we got in the end. I'm very grateful for what I was able to experience with the games as they are.
The “sigh” at the beginning. Many of times that has happened to me.
We can easily consider it part of the experience!
I know the game doesnt have deep lore but in the first game KKND (extreme) it was told that the evolved at first welcomed the symmetrics(survivors) which played along for a moment and then stabbed the muties backs as soon as they learned about their rich Oil Deposits (which is holy for the evolved called ,,Earth Blood") and since then basically an eternal blood feud was born as far as i see it the survivors are the ,,bad" guys as for the muties they are not big Fans of forgiveness and since then deeply hate anything that is a ,,symmetric" and go on crusades to kill all humans because the symmetrics will bring forth the scourge (nuclear apocalypse)
The series definitely does have supporting lore, but it's held as secondary and is often a bit overlooked compared to the action and humor that is front and center. Thanks for bringing this point up, as the world of KKND is richer than some players might think!
