The Paul McCartney song that the rest of The Beatles despised
Переглядів 6 тис.Рік тому
With a back catalogue as extensive as that of The Beatles, there is a fair chance that a selection of songs will cause slight debate around certain creative differences. A few stinkers slipped through even in the 71 songs that Paul McCartney wrote for the Fab Four. One particular song, however, didn’t just annoy the usual suspects of John Lennon or George Harrison, but the entire band.

you had noel gallagher and others talking shite about him amazing drummer artist .
Yellow matter custer, Dripping from a dead dog's eye...
He‘s 100% right. The biggest shit in music is Metallica.
You're waiting for this drum fill the second the song starts!
His paradiddles are sick, nobody plays like that... they lead off into fills that are just freaking legendary
Sorry but I don’t remember Steely Dan doing a damn thing to stop the Vietnam War or working for peace. Lennon would be the first to admit that he was not perfect and that the song is only an expression of his idealism. Let’s face it,Steely Dan made art to make money and they made lots of it. Actually, his lifestyle wasn’t that extravagant considering the huge amount of money he made, and he gave millions of dollars to causes that he believed in. He also had to spend huge sums in legal fees. He was not responsible for the materialistic and militaristic world we live in. He sincerely tried to changed it. Why didn’t Fagan write a song critical of those who were? I think Lennon would say if you’ll give up your possessions and bigotry, he would too. IMO, people will still be singing and listening to his music long after Steely Dan is only a faint memory.
One of the greatest drummers. Overshadowed by his monumental songwriting skills.
Makes it smooth and effortless ❤
A favorite memory ; Listening to “FM” on the fm driving around back in the day. Thanks Steely Dan.
GENIUS!!!!!!
It's basically a Ringo Starr roll off the second side of Abbey Road ....
IS this a drum fill? Given its place in the song, I always thought is was a drum break.
He must of been straight shooting some good stuff when he said that
John was full of himself
"If....you live in glass houses, ya shouldn't throw stones......."!!-unknown
... astonish by Phil saying...im NOT a singer that plays the drums a little ....but.... im a drummer who sings a little .....WHICH actually .....He plays the Drums....And Sings .. Equally .....compose Great Songs...that has ... coloured the World's al over .. Causes New talent's ..to emerge ...
Reed was a bit of a hack in my opinion. Zappa could definitely play guitar. And he loses me 100% on his Beatles take. Lou should stick to his 4 barre chords on Sweet Jane and call it a career.
Similar story: It is said that Frank Zappa wrote "Oh, No I Don't Believe It" in response to the Beatles' "All You Need Is Love"
Wow 👀!!!!!
This is great. I thought it was rare that people saw the disturbing contradictions in that song. Love Steely Dan.
John Lennon was still down-to-earth in his own way!
1:53 Who's that guy with John Lennon? Is that a member of Steely Dan?
people who live in glass pop songs, should never throw stones, one is a little "rich"in irony, the other ,just a very average, boring song.Fagen ,not bringing that gem out for an encore.
I came to know steely dan/donald fagen thanks to an online friend and now I'm almost addicted ahah
If John Lennon had livrd longer, he and Keith could've had an insult fest. JL had some choice comments about the Stones, that Keith didn't appreciate.
Steely Dan was a fly on any of the Beatles rear end
Not Really much of a dig by Elton. And not much of a song by those who should know better.
I had heard that that song was written about Bernie Sanders.
Not fit to tie Zappas boots
Steely Dan always used theost stellar musicians. They are just at another level. Never dug a ton of theirusic but respyhow great they were.
Reed was just a Competitive Cocky Musician in his Youth. All the Bands he Hated are Now the True Legends of Rock and Roll. Because our Music nowadays is just ---> 🤡🤡🤡💩💩💩
Past the white stetson hat, the lyrics don't really seem to point to Lennon. "Salads and sun"? I always thought that is was mocking the California lifestyle, from where they haled. Did Fagan overtly say it was about Lennon? Seriously asking. Maybe a nod. And yes, I would say John seemed deliberately to disconnect himself from just about everything. That level of superstardom, I think blew all their minds from responding normally to the world around them. I can't even imagine:). As a response, he had to really boil it down to the basics, and i think he was sincere and honest about it. But the song here is being misinterpreted. he's speaking of socialism leaning right toward communism in it's more true form, which has only seen corrupted forms, due to human nature. I think this is incredibly obvious. His vision is not excluding the poor working person. That's a misunderstanding. And lastly, I think Elton John was joking
Don’t ssugarcoat it Lou. Tell us what you reallly think.lul.
John Lennon was a bum.
imagine john knows better
I know nothing bout playing drums, but he seems more relaxed than everybody else
One thing steely dan was about music, beatles made hits big difference
You need jesus
no thanks. i do my own yard work.
Lennon is in hell today
There's this thing with rap beefs where lesser known artists take aim at bigger artists and those artists indulge them because they respect them, and this way they share some of the attention, the press.
He talked shit and it's still getting him and these bands hype. Think about that.
I don't think this criticism is based on the actual points. That John Lennon was trying to make in the song. I think he was thinking about communal societies where people would share everything they had. Foraging societies live close to that ideal
SD was patterned after the Beatles?! Seriously doubt that! Adam Sandler's PICKIN' DAISIES is a hilarious parody of Lennon.
John Lenin..
😂 Most of these comments are ridiculous, some insane. Like anyone here knew these people, just rumors and innuendo. Give your opinion but don’t act like what you say is fact and know most people don’t care about or agree with your opinions.
Steely Dan modeled themselves on the beatles? Hm. That's why they sucked.
Ever see Steely or Dan smile?
How sad. I don’t suppose they resented John Lennon’s success at all. Never mind, I’m sure they think very we’ll of themselves.
