    Hi Sheri, I always like seeing your work and your plans because we have similar taste in patterns. Last June, I was in Copenhagen and bought the designer’s suggested yarn for the Lane Loop sweater. It is a Hjelholt Uldspinerei and is gorgeous if you ever get a chance to try (also, if you can manage a trip to Copenhagen some time, don’t hesitate. The yarn stores are a dream! I didn’t even manage to get to Knitting for Olive in person and I was in heaven). So, I may actually knit it when you do yours. I’ve thought of 100 other projects for the yarn since but maybe should just make what I bought it for. I’m an American in the SF Bay Area but spent 16 years as an expat in Paris. I still miss a lot about living in Europe. Good luck on your new job! Hope you love it and still find enough time to knit.

      Copenhagen is high on my list just for the yarn shopping! I think you should definitely cast on the lane loop

    I’ve been itching for the Puro as well, it looks so simple and sophisticated 🙌🏻 Shawls have been on my mind, but I also cannot make up my mind on a pattern that would give cool modern girl vibes without complexity and lots of colourwork 🤔

    Can you knit standing up on the train? Have you heard of the Mini Minder? It's like a lazy susan for your yarn with a wrist strap. It's not big enough for garment knitting, but great for small projects like socks.

    For the leftover blue mohair maybe Aurora bandana is a possibility? I've been using up a lot of my mohair stash for Christmas presents by doing a temporary cast on, mohair held dubble, 80 sts on 4 mm 60 cm. Knit a tube and then just twist it 180 degrees and Kitchener stitch it to the beginning for a Möbius loop.

    Probably pairing your Filcolana peruvian with mohair is a good call. It seems few people mention it (some do), but that peruvian on it's on pills like there's no tomorrow. I don't mind de-pilling but the yarn needs attention after each wear and doesn't settle down over time. At least that's my experience with the Filcolana peruvian on it's own. Good luck with the new job! 😊

    • @Goodknits_
      @Goodknits_ 6 днів тому

      A few podcasts back a bunch of viewers commented saying the same as you, that the Filcolana pills like crazy. So that is also why I decided to change course and pair with mohair as my slipover has never had an issue in the same yarn.

    If you have enough mohair to double it for a sweater, you might consider (for the Tao sweater) using 2 strands of mohair and 1 of fingering weight. That way the mohair would 'outweigh' the color in the fingering and you may have many more choices of fingering weight orange-reds. There are some lovely orange-y colors in Knitting for Olive, for example. Or Stephen West's Bicycle yarn comes in several orange-types and you could go to the shop and see them in person. Good luck with it all.

    Hi Sheri, I happen to have made my Storm sweater using the Lana grossa yarn in exactly the same colour you mentioned and I personally love it. Initially I got the yarn for my birthday to make an accessory for King's Day / watching the Dutch football games (but ended up buying more and making a sweater), but that might be a fun alternative if you still want to use the yarn and don't already have a Oranje outfit ;) EDIT: There are also a few yarn shops in Utrecht so if you want to see some of these yarns in person (like the Lana Grossa), would recommend combining it with a day trip here!

I don't think the colors were coming through very well for me because I thought a lovely dove gray would really show off your color changing yarn, but overall I would pick a light neutral that will complement that beautiful color changing yarn. I'm sorry about your turtle dove needing frogged. Do you think if you started over from the beginning the pattern would flow better again? It is truly beautiful!

    love the skirt color 🧶💖 I’d suggest a matching top for the skirt! Like one of those that are basically just the sleeves, like a bolero but with an attached collar.

      Or a triangular scarf. Not sure why but I see the combo with a white tank top, sunglasses and boots. Dare I say it, maybe a hat and an oversize cardigan. Can you see the 2010 fall girl vision coming alife 😅🫣

    Thank you Sheri for another nice episode. If I were you, I’d order more of that purple-y yarn (if only you could find a better deal on the shipping cost!) to knit a matching sweater to your mini skirt and then achieve the woolly dress effect you were so keen on earlier this fall. I do not usually have the same palette as you but I love every project you tackle on -this Winnie sweater is a huge success! I’m also not totally sold on the brioche shawl colors combo but the caramel yarn does compliment your hair! Finally, I’m really tempted to knit the Berlin scarf but the fringes hustle kinda put a block to it; do you think I could get away with i-cord fringes instead or it’d just be weird?

    I found that people often knit tighter in the round. I did the same thing before swatching flat. I'll never do that again. lol.

    I do not understand the need to say that the sweater is free for you. I normally look the knitting video for ideas not to learn bout your privilege in receiving yarn. I found this kind of irritating... but just my opinion

      You are of course entitled to your opinion but in my videos I always ensure to be honest about the final costs of my projects. Not sure if you heard the whole explanation in the video but this yarn was gifted by a viewer as a thank you for my sending one of my own knits to them for free as I wasn't wearing it. That is not privilege. It was an exchange. I have never once received yarn for free from any brand or company, but even if I did I would continue to be honest about it as I will always share my project costs.

    I am surprised that the skirt is see through considering how tight the gauge was. It would be nice to hear people's comments. I was going to knit a skirt, but I hesitate now. In Finland is was quite popular to make a "pyllytin", hip and bum warmer. You would wear that if you wanted to wear jeggings or tight jeans in the winter. Maybe I should just stick to that and not knit a real skirt to wear with tights.

    • @Goodknits_
      @Goodknits_ Місяць тому

      I was surprised as well but I think if I had held it double or added a mohair or alpaca I wouldn't have had the issue. I plan to knit a tweed skirt now so we will see if I have the same issue where on a heavier weight and more textured yarn. Regardless, I still love a knit skrit

    Something I do is wear a longline vest which fits me like a mini dress under my skirt. It serves 2 purposes as I know it won’t untuck as I move but also covers the gap between my thighs. I am short so longline vests work for me but if you’re taller you could try and find a T-shirt dress. I never had any luck with slips, I found they are full of static and stick to my tights and therefore don’t cover the gap between my legs and hinder movement a little.

    Beautiful projects! I have completed three Berlin scarves for Christmas gifts, and none of them have fringe yet, ugh. I started the fringe on one and agree it is so annoying. I am (soon) going to try doing an icord for each fringe instead of the knitting back and forth. Did you consider that? I have also considered just closing them up and calling it a day. They are so cozy though! Thanks for the podcast.

    • @Goodknits_
      @Goodknits_ Місяць тому

      An icord could be a good idea for the fringe vs the double knitting. Didn't consider it but I bet in the brushed alpaka it would look similar.

    Hey Sheri. Enjoyed the episode as usual. I love the color choice (was it dijon?) for the brioche shawl. I think that is a glorious combo. And if you really want a sweater out of that yarn, how fun would it be to have that wonderful coordinating shawl. Take a look at the Small Fry scarf as an alternative to the Turtle Dove. It has enough texture to be interesting and is just darn cute. It seemed like it took me longer to make than I was expecting. And just a little update on the Seaway pullover by Ozetta that I have struggled with the fit. I shortened the sleeves and was amazed how much difference that made. Don't know how they got so long (except that I followed the directions as written). I spritzed it again and gave it a little time in the dryer and I think I will declare it finished. I was very careful but I do think it helped. The sweater is beautiful to look at but I don't love the fit but I do have 2 shawls and a cowl that look amazing with the color of the sweater. I hope in the end that I enjoy wearing it. Can't wait to see the Trigradient Shawl and the Sweater No 11 Light as you get a little further along.

    Some dye tips: There are different dye types for different fibers that work best, e.g acid dye for animal fibers and fiber-reactive for cellulose. Rit dye is made of a bunch of different dye types mixed together, which is why it can be used on so many different thing, but it also means that when you dye with it, a good bit of the dye comes out. The color cards are dyed using a optimal fabric for dye absorption. Since your vest is 100% animal fibers, all the dye for the synthetics and plant fibers does not adhere and makes a much lighter color than what's on the bottle. The only way around is using a very large amount, maybe even multiple bottles, to get a darker color. If you ever want to use acid dyes, which are made for animal fibers and have very little runoff if done correctly, you can do solar dyeing, which involves the sun and a jar, and not a stove. I've got no idea how sunny it is in the Netherlands; I live in the southern US and I could go bake cookies in my car at any time due to how sunny and hot it is, but if y'all have periods where it's moderately sunny for about a week, it would probably work.

    • @Goodknits_
      @Goodknits_ Місяць тому

      This is really informative. Thanks for taking the time to share. Unfortunately the Netherlands lacks sun but it sounds like acid dye is the way to go next time

      @Goodknits_ If you don't want to use your stove, you can get a hot plate and use that for the heating. I'll also tell Mother Nature that she should send some sun your way and stop giving us so much 😄

    The Winnie looks so cozy! I finally cast on mine a couple days ago. For your zauberball scarf - I am not the biggest fan of two colour brioche in general, not sure why. I do however love the dijon with the autumn zauberball. I am going to do the night shift with that yarn plus another colour zauberball and now I want the dijon with it! For the No.11 light I totally agree, the mohair makes all the difference. I recently discovered Lang Lace mohair. It has a slightly shorter halo (more silk content) and is way softer than KFO. It's amazing if you "need' that mohair but don't want it to be too fluffy. It's more expensive but has a lot more meters (so not that much more in the end).

I totally know what you mean about the knitting process with the yarn getting “stuck” but I absolutely love the way it works up nonetheless.
