Loved this video Sheri. As life evolves i realize i have to be a plant and grow towards the sunlight... in the direction that is easier and gives me energy. I hope the door closing/ window opening does that for you! Please continue with the honest assessments.
I’m so far behind on podcasts (work has been BUSY!) so just catching up now and seeing your life update. Layoffs are so hard. I’m happy you’ll have the opportunity to travel and focus on your knitting app though, how nice! ❤
What a great UA-cam! I think leaving your job has been a release for you, you look & sound happier. You’re right, it opens up so many possibilities for you, how exciting! I love the colours you’re choosing for your knits. I may have missed the episode but could you discuss your colour palette further? Have fun in Lithuania. I know we’ll all be waiting to see your acquisitions from there! Best wishes
Thanks Karen! Definitely feeling lighter and happier. I never really went in depth on my colour analysis results but I can incorporate that more in the future as I’ve also been reading up on it more
Thanks so much for sharing my dress, Sheri! I have LOVED watching your progress as we've been doing this together :) That dress is SO going to be done for your trip!
Had such a great time on our knitting date, it was pure joy. I'm glad you're enjoying the notion pouches and the bag. looking forward to you coming to the UK for another knitting date. Enjoy Lithuania
Wow, Sheri, so many exciting changes for you. Love the Sonya shirt. Fabulous job. Have a lovely time in Lithuania. I am of Lithuanian descent and it's on my bucket list. I do know from stories from my dad and relatives that it is absolutely beautiful and the yarn is magnificent! Looking forward to the footage you take there.

Thank you for your channel! I enjoy your content and following your progress on your projects. I wish all the best in your future adventures.
I'm new to your channel and knitting. I appreciated the end of the video. Your kindness shows through on your videos and that's the people I like to gravitate to!
Hi Sherry from Ontario, Canada. When I learned about lifelines I wondered why I hadn’t used them before. With more experience you become a better knitter. At least that has been my experience. Good luck with your Melides dress.
So sorry to hear about your layoff! I am in the same situation, i was impacted by a reduction in force where I worked. Time to look for the next opportunity. Wishing you the best of luck! Btw, LOVE the Sonya shirt and I added to my list of future projects.
I literally am speed watching videos as I can. Your aesthetic and approach to knitting is so similar. I am sorry to hear about the unexpected job news. Always a shock. Love the positive attitude tho. It’s def an opportunity to explore what comes next. Living in Europe is so much fun. Was in Bad Nauheim, Germany with my amazing Army spouse and brand new lil girl. (Since retired) We would still be there. Loved the lifestyle, the (ahem) yarn and yarn stores. Christmas markets, etc. Have a great time exploring. Will be here catching your amazing updates. Thank you so much😊
Enjoy all the extra time you have now and good look to any future adventures! And have fun on your upcoming trips! Looking forward to all the videos from you!
Perfect Sonya shirt! That yarn looks amazing, the drape and the colour is timeless and cool. Thank you for being part of knitting community and good luck for the changes careerwise! 😊 Ps. We have the Monday siren here in Tampere Finland every Monday at 12 o'clock but it doesn't last that long. 😄
Good luck in your new career. I do have some suggestions for new content. Could you Vlog your yarn shop travels? It would be great to get honest feedback on whether shops are worth a visit. Travel time is precious, and knowing whether to make the journey to visit a shop is always valuable. I also think, given your background, pattern round up videos would be great. It could go one step further and include yarn suggestions and even colour choices. 😊
Definitely will vlog my travels! Sicily doesn’t have much in the way of yarn shops but Lithuania definitely does so I’ll be recording there. Any specific patterns/categories you want for round ups? Someone suggested summer tops for beginners, I already have a dress/skirt one planned and I was thinking of doing one for men’s sweaters. Let me know what else you’re interested in!
I wish you a very relaxing and thoughtful reset as you contemplate your next career moves. I'm in a similar place myself and it's been challenging to take it slowly but I think it's very valuable time. I'm excited to see your finished dress and the Sonya Shirt looks like a very classic and useful piece - nice job!
I would love to see a tour of your wardrobe and how you combine your handmade knits. Love the just finished tee too, that color suits you so well ❤ Good luck with finding a new career opportunity and also, enjoy the time in between! Love from Haarlem
Thanks Jessica! Your of my wardrobe is a great idea. I’m also trying to already record this type of content for my next wear test video when I do my spring knits
Always enjoy your videos! I do the shortcut Italian bind off all the time and never have any problems. I guess I just pull the yarn through all the way. Just need to make sure it's not too tight.
Another awesome video! I love to hear your insights about yarn and patterns. I was considering the Sonya shirt and it was great to hear more details. I was considering tynn line but it looks like I might need to go with a yarn with at least a partial wool content. Do you agree? Also so glad that you have found connections through this channel and very best of luck as you begin this new season of life! Please share video from Sicily! :) Also! that color of your Sonya shirt is just perfect on you!!
You will love the SONYA if you knit it! I think the Tynn Line could work in this case as it has a nice drape. You just definitely want a yarn that will show off all the pretty details and drape nicely. I think having some wool could be helpful for that but not necessary if you prefer a summer friendly yarn if you are in a hot climate. Definitely plan to share some content from Sicily! Likely will film more vlog style video from there
Continental purling: try doing it with your index finger not extended, I always found that to be very unnatural and putting more strain on the hand. Instead, move the index finger down to wrap the needle while kind of scooping the yarn with the needle and right hand. Hopefully that made sense! I also found the continental purl super hard to pick up and I actually intentionally did a twisted one when I was first learning since it was a bit easier somehow
Girl, you totes got this 👏🏻 I hope to make (knitting) friends in Calgary. I’m an immigrant here who landed when the pandemic started so I’ve been flying mostly solo. I’ve joined a local makers FB group, so it’s a start 🤓 I’m originally from Estonia which is not too far from Lithuania and is one of the Baltic States.
Hope you’re enjoying Calgary! Wish I had been a knitter when I lived there so I could suggest something to you for groups. Joining a FB group is a great start!
Commenting again lol. But I wanted to say I'm sorry to hear about the layoff, but it sounds like you're right about it potentially an unexpected blessing. Best of luck on what comes next ❤❤ Also, I've been subscribed since almost the beginning and I hardly (if ever) comment. I need to change that because I'm really glad I found your channel!
On the miledes dress I have a suggestion with the straps. I would block the straps, and pull them as long as you can and let them dry, then adjust the length from there. I had to do that with camisole tops I have knit. You could also add elastic thread through the straps to stabilize them. Love your progress so far ❤
Thank you for the video from Canada 🇨🇦. I’m sorry that you were layed off, but I’m loving your super positive outlook ❤!! For a video idea, can you share some beginner friendly patters for summer tops?
I also feel like knitting can be an isolating hobby. I've uploaded a few videos myself, though I've had to take a break because life got in the way, and I'm also hoping that I can make some friendships through the hobby. I nearly joined you with the melides but I have another dress on the needles and thought I should finish that before starting any more!
Your houndstooth colourwork looks great. My first colourwork project was a 3 colour houndstooth vest for my husband. I hadn’t even knit a garment and years later when putting it in the Goodwill box, I was surprised at how well I did. Of course he never wore it. He knows enough now to call himself not knit-worthy😂
🤣 love this. My husband is trying to convince me he’s knit worthy but he’s also incredibly picky and so I haven’t decided yet. For now he gets hats only
I just watched this video and she may have the answer for your purling issue. "Marion's World, Taking your knitting skills further with 3 different techniques" She teaches you how to Knit backwards rather then purl. It was very interesting. Great video, hello from Canada!
Thanks for doing these fabulous videos. I now have to add Sonya to my list. We are traveling to Amsterdam and Rotterdam next month and I would live to visit some yarn stores. Where are the most affordable options for buying brands like Knitting for Olive and Gepard? Must visits? Thanks!
So truthfully Amsterdam isn’t really known for having amazing yarn shops outside of Stephen & Penelope. There are really only 3 main ones which also include De Afstap and Hooks & Yarn. They all have good selections but quite small with S&P being the largest and most interesting. I think outside of Amsterdam there are a lot of good shops but I tend to buy from them online.
@@Goodknits_ Thank you. I will definitely visit Stephen and Penelope because I couldn't go all the way there and miss that- but it looks quite expensive after converting to New Zealand dollars. But no doubt I will bring home an Amsterdam souvenir from there.
@Some_stick_n_string it’s definitely on the pricier side but they have some unique yarns so I suggest you buy those and stay away from anything you can easily get at home
Your Sonya shirt is so perfect on you! I've had that pattern saved for a while. Also, may I ask what program you use to make your thumbnails? I currently use canva, but a lot of the features are premium and I'm just wondering if there's a better option before I pay.
just flying in here to help with the pronunciation! ppoppo is a korean phrase connected to kisses/smooches, pronounced ignoring the double P and a short "o" => popo. the name of the designer is roughly pronounced: "egg-yo" (try pronouncing egg-yoghurt, and ditch the -ghurt.) hope this helps!
Appreciate that! With so many designers all over the world it’s hard to get the pronunciation right all the time. This is super helpful as a way to remember. 🙏🏻
Your hounds tooth skirt looks amazing for your first colour work project. If both the front and back are the same, why wouldn't it be written in the round? I'm an English knitter as well, but can do continental as I also crochet. However, I tried Norwegian purling and it's hard on the right wrist. There is another method that is really easy (don't know what its called), the only issue is that the stitch is twisted, but it's easy to just knit or purl in the back loop when you are knitting it. Congratulations on your lay off...LOL. I don't know how old you are, but change is always good!
It has solid colour side panels so I think that’s why it’s not in the round as I imagine the colourwork would be more difficult. But designer would know best 🤗 Someone else told me about they method of purling you mention (also without a name to it) so I’ll see if I can find it

I really enjoy pattern roundups, seeing what catches other knitters eyes is a great way for me to find inspiration!
Any specific roundups that you’re craving right now? I am already planning a dress and skirt one and probably men’s sweaters.
I’m a shawl knitter, so always those! There are lots of winter and summer round ups but not as many spring and fall ones so I’d watch those too!
