In 1943, the allies did not have Fighters with long enough range to escort all the way to the target and back, the development of the P-51D Mustang introduced June 1944 allowed escort all the way to the target and back.
The near collision early on is easy to understand. Reading a book on 8th Air Force, these bomber formations got to be upwards of up to 1000 ships (planes) taking off from bases all over England some of them had to loiter for a period of time for Aircraft to link up from greater distances and with any visibility issues could see near collisions
Mad that anyone made it out, really
@@RhetoricalThrill I have read alot of accounts that you werr fortunate for four or 5 out of a 10 person aircrew to be able to bail out safely it is sad
I love when Col Harriman (David Straihairn) pulls Lt Col Derringer (John Lithgow) into the office to read the letters from parents of dead air crewman, puts into perspective, they are all important
That part was so touching
The narrative voice is John Lithgow
"By Grabthar's Hammer, by the sons of Warvan, you shall be avenged!" THANK YOU for such a wonderful reaction to this almost-Star Trek movie!!
🥹
The “miners not minors” is one of my all time favorite bits.
The fact that it takes like thirty seconds for everyone including the viewer to get it is just delicious 🤣
was that soda or were you drooling over the handi snacks? 😜
God I miss them
same
I have NO IDEA what that RETARDED ASS FOCUS GROUP WAS THINKING!!! Sure, I get it... The "happy" ending makes people happy... But it was just WAAAAYYYY too sappy for me... They end up living in the house from Audrey's magazine with the perfect little lawn... The "tragic" ending is JUST FUCKING PURE AWESOMENESS!!! It also cost over HALF the budget of the ENTIRE movie so it mystifies me that the producers would actually cut all THAT BADASS PUPPET WORK... For a sappy little ending where Seymour and Audrey live happily ever after, in Audrey's perfect home, with their perfect life...
Great reaction! Thank you!
Thank you for watching!
You look like the actress Claudia Christian from her Babylon 5 days.
I’ll have to look her up but I’m hoping that’s a good thing 😊
Great reaction! New sub. 🙂 I think you'd really like "The 5th Element" if you haven't seen it already, another scifi action comedy. 😉
Glad to have you! And that is one I plan to get to in the next few months actually 😊
@RhetoricalThrill awesome!
Is he on dope? He ate some brownies that fans gave him
Guy = Sam Rockwell = Wild Bill in The Green Mile lol
Haven’t seen that one yet but I’ll look for him!
@@RhetoricalThrill didnt see Green Mile? I was sure you did? I thought that movie was how i found you on youtube?
Nope, never saw it, been wanting to do a video for a long time though!
As far as school shootings. What the heck. I remember in high school I could have a pocket knife as long as it is not flashed around. Also only during hunting season they allowed us to have hunting rifles in the car at school. It just had to be placed on the floor out of sight. Never had pistols in my family. Dad always said if intruder only need 2 guns. Shotgun with a slug or buckshot for close range, rifle for long range. Remember him saying in my high school years if their is a intruder to use the shot guns cause if more then 1 intruder the rest will flee when they see the first guy get a big whole blown in him. Pap also always had a shot gun ready to go for intruder. Said first shot is rock salt and after that no more warnings. Said getting hit by rock salt will put the intruder in a lot of pain.
It was not uncommon at my high school for people to keep their hunting rifles in the back of their trucks in the school parking lot because they went out to hunt after school. Changed very quickly in April 1999
Sad part do that stuff today and some nosy prick is calling child services. I still remember what kept me in line in my youth. The belt. Got it once and never again. After that you just knew if you got a certain look from father you better knock it off and fast.
Because imitation is the highest form of flattery, Trekkies view this movie as a love-letter to the franchise. I would say The Orville would also qualify in that aspect.
Leonard Nimoy wrote an autobiography titled "I am not Spock", in 1975. That tells you his resentment of being type cast, at least initially.
react to zoolander
Wish I could! But I’ve seen it
@@RhetoricalThrill yep i hope you do the walk off scene
Never give up, never surrender.
Not long after this movie was released, I saw a documentary that showed in great detail how incredibly fragile the Declaration is. The thing would have been reduced to sub-atomic dust before Cage even left the building with it...
Loved your review of these. Thank you for thinking the same as me on the over CGI on the 2020 version. The 1990 one is great, Angelica Houston's grand high witch is the OG, and stellar. I've not watched the whole 2020 one, just clips but it looks frigging terrible.
Monty Cristo sandwiches....!
😋
I remember seeing this in theaters back in the day. I basically stumbled into it because I had a few hours to kill. Knew almost nothing about it, but man was I shocked by how enjoyable it was. This movie has no right to be this good.
💯
I love how Rickman hates his role, but we never see him without his alien "head"👍
Yes! And by the end he’s embraced it 💜
Fun reaction Rhet. Such a fantastic moviie. It's a love letter to the fans. Another space movie you might enjoy is A Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Based on the works of the late great Douglas Adams. If you're in the mood for a conman movie, I highly recommend Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. Michael Caine and Steve Martin absolutely shine in their performances.
Thanks for the suggestions! It’s been a long time since I’ve seen Hitchhiker’s Guide, might be worth another watch.
Edibles?
Not just you I'd watch it also. Over the Oroville
It's a love letter
By Grabthar's Hammer, Sigourney Weaver certainly is hot in this film. 🤣🤣 And by Grabthar's Hammer, I like your reaction.
Thank you! And AGREED
@RhetoricalThrill By Grabthar's Hammer, you replied!!! Yay!! 😁😁
20:40 Maybe not you… love this reaction 🤣
Thank you 😊
Yes the remake is worth your time. It’s not the same but does have fun cameo in it. The cast a bit more recognizable.
I surrendered , and gave up , its a reaction video , not a constant dialogue for you to ruin and make snide remarks all the time .
So what is a reaction video exactly then? Thats my *reaction* 😂
@alexsaunders352 If you are not happy with this reaction and commentary, may I suggest other reactors videos on youtube, there are plenty to choose from. Of course if you’re not interested in such commentary as you so gracefully commented, I would also like to recommend purchasing a mirror and your very own copy of this and or other films you may wish to see a reaction without comments to. Of course if you prefer to watch it later you could just recorded yourself or the reflection from the mirror along with the video to emulate the youtube reactor and commentary experience. The purpose if reactors and their commentary is to see films we love with a fresh take of eyes and listen to what they have to say about it. I as many in the comments here and in comments elsewhere on the platform are grateful for Rhetorical Thrill’s and other reactions and commentary. It’s not only refreshing to see and listen, but insightful on how they experience the film from their unique perspective. I am truly sorry for your loss, best of luck in whatever you decide. -##
@@hashtagPoundsign Thank you for your reply , yes i have the original video, in fact i have about 450 and i watch lots of reaction videos about 70 a week, and i have the right to comment on any i wish to and 99% of the time they are very happy reactions, and i give credit where it is due , just as you have the right to reply to my comment in the way you feel.
@@alexsaunders352 Alex, I gotta say that comes off as really pathetic. Not the amount of reaction videos you watch, reactors on youtube do appreciate you for your watch time, it's about your need to waste energy leaving a negative comment. You could just downvote the video, move on, and the next time you see a reactor you don't like pop up in recommended, as youtube does that, just click or tap the 3 dots and choose "Do not recommend this channel." It's a much better use of your time.
@@hashtagPoundsign Not really pathetic, i spend my days writing software, the reaction videos are just on my other screen , and being an insomniac as my brain never stops with an IQ 120, i find they help me unwind. I have liked over 1000 reactions and disliked only 3 .And its not a waste of my time but it is of yours as i don't care what you say, i reply just for the distraction. The real pathetic one is you who cannot let anyone have a opinion appose to yours. And i will always reply as it is polite to do so. My life is never boring as i enjoy my work, and always busy.
This was a surprise hit in the summer of 1981; a summer that gave us a Superman sequel, a new James Bond adventure, a new Lone Ranger, an all-star comedy cross-country race starring Burt Reynolds and Farrah Fawcett, and an adventure with Harrison Ford as an archaeologist named Jones.
A good year!
The intro music from this movie was used in my wedding
Love it
“Miners not minors.” Is my favorite line.
I DIED at that. The whole thing was perfect - the timing, the delivery, everything. I’m sure other lines and scenes are more well known but that was easily my favorite joke.
Galaxy Quest reaction day is best day ^^
🙌🏻
I didn't realize it when the movie first came out but this is very well written and the story is so good.
What are the best Star Trek movies ever made
Besides this one, I think the best ones are Khan and First Contact. I think I liked the one with the whales also.
BEST Star Trek movie!!! I remember seeing this in the cinema with my grandparents.
Awesome! So glad I finally saw it
Watch the deleted scenes if you want to know how Gwen's top got unzipped
👀
You thought it was a parody of star trek... Now you know you had been wrong. The film you though of has been "Spaceballs". By the way - wishing you also fun while watching that one...
Oh that’s an ALL TIME favorite of mine 🥰
Uh, Spaceballs is a parody of STAR WARS. THIS is a parody of Star Trek.
@@Atlas_Redux My mistake. I though they are beaming in Start Trek, btw I think I saw Alliens Alliens or Planet of the Apes as well...
The answer to question "What is best in life?" being "lamentation of woman" which is Conan's answer is not Chengis Khan's statements as it should be expected. On the contrary, the first answer given by the character Falcon is Chengis Khan;s statements which is "The open steppe, a fleet horse, falcons at your wrist, and the wind in your hair."
I won't do it! I'm not gonna say that STUPID line one more time..
The show must go on!
keep up the great reactions ...by the way love the lambda lambda lambda shirt from revenge of the geeks...blessed be ...cannabis is the way
NERDS 😂 and thank you so much!
@@RhetoricalThrill yes NERDS lol
I am so happy this was in my feed. This is one of my favorites - it really is a perfect movie. And you did a fantastic reaction, got almost every last great line and gag in the post. Really enjoyed it, and really needed it. I was impressed with how far ahead of the curve you were on the plot. Couple of points no one has yet made: The Protector is NTE-3120. That stands for "Not The Enterprise". Constructing a rudimentary lathe is a reference to when Kirk manufactured a weapon in a famous TOS episode (no spoilers). And the Thermians are from the Klaatu nebula - that is an homage to the main character of The Day the Earth Stood Still (directed by Robert Wise who also directed Star Trek - The Motion Picture)..
Thank you for the great info! I’m not super knowledgeable about most Star Trek so I love those fun facts 💜
They started filming this as an R rated movie but Disney decided that their Santa Claus and Buzz Lightyear shiuldn't be in a R movie. Tony Shalob (Monk) was supposed to be a Stoner in the R Rated version but they cut out all his Toking scenes to maintain the PG Rating, One of my favorite lines in the movie is when Gwen (Sigourny) says "I hate Ducts!" a referfence to her Alien movies, My deaf friend watched the movie with me and commented "Did She just say F**k?" when referring to the dubbed line in the Chomper Room. UA-cam has a great "Making Of" Documentary on this film.
I think the original R rating plan could have worked but it also really really works the way it ended up
One of the interesting facts about this show was when they Protector was taking hits in the TV show, the actors were hamming it up throwing tthemselves around while they shook the camera, just like in Star Trek, but when the "real" Protector was taking hits, the director had the entire bridge set built of a giant gymbal. The director could slam the entire bridge set three feet in any direction using a joystick during the ship fights so the actors weren't crawling around and holding onto things trying to stay in place, wondering if the ceiling was going to collapse on them.
Such a great, underrated film. I remember so much about the night I saw this and where I was. I was in Florida half way across the country in Orlando, just got back from a national dance championship that was extremely exhausting, and I just wanted to lie down and relax. Had no idea what this was but it had just come out on PPV, so I just went ahead and watched it in my hotel room. Pretty good night, tired and eating pizza, watching this movie late at night. Good times lol
What a fun memory!
Hopefully one day they will release the directors cut so we can see the full context of everything including monks weed smoking😂
@Rhetorical. Everyone in this does so so well, friend of mine said it is her favorite Star Trek film that isn't a Star Trek film. Alan Rickman is one of my 10 favorite actors and he like the rest just chew up the scenes. This film has so much heart
The thing I love about Alan Rickman is that because he found success later in life, he always did parts that he really wanted to do, and you can tell he really enjoyed this
@@RhetoricalThrill I feel the same
