This documentary - featuring both 'Indie' (still-practicing) and ex-Scientologists alike - was filmed over several years and released in 2020. She looks so artificial. That nose and her whole plastic-like appearance is actually scary and gives an uncanny valley image. Women pay money to undergo cosmetic procedures to look like this? Wow.
As far as the Kinkade paintings, if anyone is curious. I experienced someone with tons of those paintings in their house and thought it was really strange so I did some research. Selling those paintings is part or an MLM or pyramid scheme masquerading as a franchise. Seems to track with the two charlatans in this documentary.

There is now footage of Lara seeing her father pushing a bread rack (on the rpf kitchen duty) while protesting their new years event 2023. She hollers “dad I love you!” Over and again and he just walks faster and never even looks at her 😢 she was happy to at least know he’s alive

the young blond woman has a youtube channel called larafm and is very vocal and outspoken about her time in scientology there ia also a lot of exscientologists with independent youtube channels under the banner SPTV that are well worth watching very insightful

As a never in person I have just been deepdiving into cults and especially Scientology for a few years now. Its fascinating and I hope Im a lot more aware now than I was before about how mind control and cults work.

I am so confused why so many SPTV channels have Karen on still. I’m watching the link you provided to Steve Mango’s video on her and I am in shock and appalled! why do people still support her by entertaining her opinions?!
I think the creator was trying to show various experiences in Scientology and the mindset of some of it's members. You can then make up your own mind on their current behaviors now.
On a very superficial level, her wig creeps me out.
@@freedombuckofive9640 what confuses me are her alleged current actions and beliefs or current as of 3 years ago. Firstly I didn’t realize she was still such a believer in the ‘tech’ and according to Mango’s videos still audits people for money. it all feels counter to what a lot of the channels giving her a platform stand for. I’ve seen her interviewed as recently as Masterson trial (I think by tony ortega and he mentions at some point being friends with her and having stayed with her during first trial) and her husband was on Aaron’s channel yesterday. If they are guilty of the things alleged on Steve’s channel, these relationships are confounding to me. I’m still in the figuring out my own opinion stage I suppose but it is kind of blowing my mind

they support her and still have her on for the very reasons Steven stated and provided evidence for in the videos, and that I too can back up from personal experiences. They are given money and 'perks' by her to toe the party line, say what she wants said and put out there as 'facts' in the community, they are promised views and promotion via her numerous contacts and connections, and they would sell out their own grandmother for 50 bucks and 15 minutes of 'fame'. To go against that is to have almost the entirely of the ex community turn against them, as they did Steven and anyone else who has questioned or gone against her.

I've studied electricity for decades. And the 43rd minute with Jeff describing the measurement of electrical resistance in the body can easily be done at home by anyone with a simple ohmmeter. While it's accurate it's measuring the resistance in the body. It's also accurate and easier to understand for most it's measuring your electricity your body makes naturally. You can hold the tips of an ohmmeter and get the same measurement. While it's more complicated to be the most sensitive it could be when developed in 1966, it's the same basic design. And their theory that the e-meter is sending a small amount of electricity through you is totally incorrect. You might hear this. It needs a small amount to work. But it is measuring your electricity and it's natural fluctuations because of the resistance in the body. I've been doing it nearly 5 decades, and had no idea I've been using this cult device all this time.

I was greatly harmed by Karen and Jeffrey Augustine. I was about to jump off the balcony at the Cosmopolitan Hotel in Las Vegas, which Karen was aware of but DID NOT contact authorities or my husband because I would be placed on a 5150 psychiatric hold which would mean I’d be “drugged” with psych meds and wouldn’t be able to receive more indie auditing from her. She claimed only she could help me with more auditing and not to get mental health help or tell anyone about my suicidal ideations. I could have lost my life due to this person. Then, when I bravely spoke up about the abuse I endured, I was silenced 🔇 to where other “famous” critics took her side because of her financial incentives. People made hateful videos on her behalf against me for money… tearing into my mental health, my marriage, my personality, everything… and then filed false police reports against me having the LAPD contact me because she donates to their department (as Scientology does) and said I was harassing her as an elderly person, how I was trying to extort her, etc (all untrue). My community amongst the exes and critics was all ripped away from me due to the fair game from Karen. I will not stop speaking out against this because she still has such a hold on the other critics and they refuse to acknowledge the harm she’s done to me. It’s distressing to me even to this day, to where I disappeared from UA-cam until Doug helped me by bringing me on a live stream to welcome me back. I was done so dirty & no apology or any accountability. No Tony Ortega story about what she did to me. I still can’t believe I almost lost my life due to her… - Steven Mango

I was well on my to following a similar path back in 2017 - when Karen pulled me into her web through pure deception and lies. Had I not become wise to what was going on regards these two though an ex reaching out to warn me, I would have been none-the-wiser. You're welcome to come on any time to sort this together, as you're far from the only one who knows what these people are really about. It's long over-due for the truth to come out and people like you, me, and all those harmed and kept under control by their actions are held to account.

33:30 Heart wrenching, just devastating. The most devastating shunning/disconnection leadup conversation between a Scientology dad and his daughter. The dad is the fanatical Scientologist not getting what his daughter is wishing to have, a normal parent for a dad, just for a moment.
Dad instead goes into a Scientology "Sea Org" robot who gives his daughter the shunning/disconnection threatening ultimatum.
Truly sick, this dad gets worst father award. I hope he someday wakes up and weeps forgiveness from his daughter for doing this to her.

This is so sad. Jeffrey Peixoto promised the people who were in the film that is was going to
be an "exposure" type of doc., but clearly COS got to him. He has now disappeared !

unfortunately what you say are facts. The community should never be above criticism - least it degenerate into the very thing it claims to 'challenge' - yet the various 'no-go' areas are telling to say the least.

Just tonight on Aaron’s live I asked him if what Karen does is just as bad as the auditing they were discussing. Later I made a comment unrelated to Karen. Guess what, my comment is visible to me but not on my laptop which isn’t linked to an account. I can look back and forth. So I do a test, I say, “interesting”, it doesn’t show. I ask if Goldie has shadow banned me and “voila!”, it appears and my other comments minus the two about Karen. 🤷♀️
@@JM-pg5rc I've heard all of the arguements about why you should be able to block comments, I still think it's a dishonest practice. People are always going to have different opinions and it's easy enough to ignore negative comments or trolls. If the other viewers choose to engage with those comments then it should be up to them. I just don't trust people who try to control the narrative in this way.
I'm curious about who this Goldie person is? They appear to moderate the comments on the live streams from several different creators that I've watched. Could this person have their own agenda? And if they've chosen to shadow ban you on one channel, could they then extend that ban on all of the channels that they moderate?

I was watching your video today with Steve Mango. I was very interested in hearing more about Karen. So I watched this on bit chute thinking I would find out something that was missing from this particular clip. But there was nothing there except her explaining Scientology. Was I looking at the right clip, video whatever you call it. Could I get a link? I’ve always been very suspicious of her since the first time I saw her on Leah’s show. Some thing about the way she talks, and the wig she wears. People who are disguising themselves make me very suspicious. What else is she hiding? I’d like to know. I’m never in. I need help in digging this information up. Is there anything current on her? Every time I see her I literally cringe
Hi Magoo, if you haven't already, please watch the 5 videos by Steven Mango listed in the pinned comment. There's more information to come, but people need to hear those first to even begin to understand who Karen and Jeffrey really are, how much of a hold Karen has over most in the 'ex' community, and how that effects the subsequent narrative being so tightly controlled.
My whole perception of SPTV and the Aftermath Foundation has crumbled if they are good friends with Jeffrey and Karen. Ex Members are so vulnerable coming out and the fact that they may be preyed upon by this couple with the other exScientologists giving them cover, is gross.
It's even worse than the abuses of Scientology. Taking advantage of the most vulnerable fresh out of the cult is a different level of evil. Karen attempted this with me back in 2017, and when I got wise to her ways and confronted her on it, she sent her lapdog Jeffrey in to attempt to 'handle' me. All he could come up with is to exclaim, "Doug is OSA!" - and then proceeded, along with Karen, to go on a discrediting campaign to the ex-community regards me, continuing to this day. The fact that Karen and her husband Jeffrey haven't ever had to answer to any of this sordid and disgusting behavior for over a decade now, and are being protected and supported by many in the 'ex' community, does indeed speak volumes.

40:00. I'd instead say that Scientology (that chart of steps) is a soul memories alleviation pseudo-therapy and exorcism practice. The chart is all the pseudo-therapy to alleviate you of your debilitating soul memories, and the upper steps called OT 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 are the exorcism steps to eliminate the hitchhiking invisible souls infesting your human body so that when all those surplus souls are exorcised, they take their debilitating soul memories with them so you don't have their leakage soul memories "case" on you, and are supposedly double whammy soul memories cleaned up. Scientology simply is a long long expensive soul memories alleviation pseudo-therapy and exorcism. You will have to believe in past lives memories and in invisible souls infesting your human body, to track with the Hubbard wacky pseudo-therapy and exorcism of Scientology, in order to target and alleviate your debilitating soul memories and lose your surplus souls you never realized were bugging you.
Best thing to learn about all this, is it is hooey. Save yourself wasting a dime chasing Xenu's dumped souls that infest your human body (which aren't there anyways, only in Hubbard's insistent mentally ill mind which he's convinced others now, of this supposed spiritual problem which only Scientology exorcism will fix for humanity).
No Christian church forbids exploring other faiths, and the argument that ppl in those churches want to become gods is so wrong. Actually that’s EXACTLY what scientologists strive to be!

i lived in Clearwater after Scientology took over and turned it into a ghost town... one of the most creepy, eerie things i've ever seen!
The 'Paintings' are hilarious, you'd have to have a heart of stone not to burst into laughter.
What I noticed is many of these cults take a good idea and then run it to the point of being ridiculous; reincarnation, morality, sex, etc and it's in the extreme obsession of the issue that lies the intellectual hook.

Thank you for sharing this documentary with all of us Doug. I am surprised that I hadn’t come across it previously as I watch a lot of them from around the world. It was very eye opening as I always got bad vibes from Karen and Jeffrey but I couldn’t quite put my finger on what it was about them that made my stomach churn.
What’s worse is the rest of the SPTV gang working with and promoting them. I have had my suspicions that a lot of them bring the attitude of Scientology out with them. And a lot of the ex-Scientologists that held high positions seem to really be proud of it and feel superior.
This documentary is a complete misrepresentation of Karen and Jeffrey. Jeffery just spoke with Aaron at Growing Up in Scientology. Karen and Jeffrey do not practice and haven’t practiced for many years. Karen son died and Scientology wouldn’t even allow them to see him or go to his funeral. They didn’t even tell her he died.

I live near a town called Auburn,California. It’s Thomas Kincaid childhood home town and boy is it BEAUTIFUL there. Youcan see where he got his inspiration. There’s a quaint gallery of his there too.
I've always loved his paintings. I own several prints and a signed copy of his book of prints. I know they eventually made him out to be the Nickelback of the art world but he got where he was at through immense talent.

This video proves nothing in regard to Augustine and de la Carrier’s affiliation with indie scientologists. I’m not a fan of theirs but it’s obvious that in this video they’re talking about what scientologists believe and how auditing is said to work. It’s deceptive editing at its worst.

I watched this a few days ago and honestly to me it just looked like really long commercial for Scientology without DM and the church. Did I get this wrong?
It's not a pro-Scientology film despite initial appearances. It was directed by a clever filmmaker named Jeffrey Peixoto, who gained the trust of Scientologists - ex's and Indies alike - to show how they think and act minus any 'slant', subtlety highlighting the abuses. It's slow and not everyone's cup of tea, but I certainly appreciate what he managed to capture. These two should be pressured to answer the accusations they have successfully dodged for over a decade now. @@dbnc What I have seen across various sites leads me to a similar conclusion. I think there are some that think most people are stupid and can't see. Never been In a cult, but was caught out by a MLM years ago which was showing signs of a mini cult so to speak. I learned a lot from that and have been invited to take a personality test a couple of times down the years on my travels. Also had contact with at least 3 other major cults due to where I lived at the time. I see how people can be drawn in and no one is immune to them, but you can defend yourself. Thanks again

Came over to watch this after seeing Lara interviewed. I get why she is upset since there was a lot about how children were treated left out and that was her mission - but I think you have to be "outside" of scientology to get how truly creepy this is. I think the director did a really good job of showing that without giving them anything to sue him over. "Religion by electricity" sort of covers it... and it can't hurt more kids if people see it for what it is and stay away.
This really feels like an advertisement for Scientology with Laura painted as the black sheep outcast who Scientology doesn’t work for.

This should have all happened behind the scenes, privately. This public squabbling is awful for your cause. On Jeff’s blog it advertises their private investigating business and blog writing. I think they use what they learned in Scientology to intimidate and bribe people. I’ve heard they even donated to some of the SPTV creators.
The problem is, if an ex Scientologist is criticized, the critic is automatically labeled as helping OSA. It’s a very dangerous thought stopping action.

The raw interviews/footage would shed some much more light on this subject. Their experiences are to important to keep hidden. @@JM-pg5rc oh, I sure did! But the way the movie itself was structured… it was unusual (again, just my opinion) as I couldn’t find a thread. Like, it wasn’t in chronological order. It didn’t expound on disconnection even after showing one. It didn’t expand on the Happy Valley information that was part of the material collected. I suppose I’m a little confused about who the audience was for the film. Just a different type of documentary than what I’ve been seeing (and reading) on CoS. The links were very informative, though. Definitely a new perspective.
Real Christianity isnt a "religion". Jesus loathed the self righteousness of the religious crowd. Being a believer is all about Faith and Grace. Believing that Jesus rose from the grave to defeat all evil forever. All one has to do is put your faith and trust in him. God grace will save you. Just like the Passover while exiled in Egypt, when God looks down on believers, he doesnt see your sin, he see's his sons blood. Just like the blood put on the doors of the children of Israels homes. Scientology is the opposite of Christianity. As Christians, we know we are flawed, we have no hope other than our Faith and trust in Jesus. Scientology says you can be a god and save yourself. My great uncle served in the Navy with Hubbard. He was talking in the late 40's of starting a religion to get rich. Sad.
The first time ever seeing or hearing of Karen these were my take away's...Karen clearly come's across as a believer of Scientology and LRH supporter. She is mad at DM for wrecking scientology and for kicking her out. Because of this treatment from DM and scientology harrassing her she started a war against DM not scientology. She still practice's scientology privately and continue's to share this knowledge with other's seeking the scientology knowledge. FOR A FEE. She think's she can heal people of their woo's using her knowledge of scientology...YES all in one interview, first time ever hearing anything about her...Im not surprised by this new's i guess?

It’s as if they didn’t have enough material for a full hour documentary so they put in a ton of filler (aka B Roll footage). You would think with a robust, vast & multifaceted topic such as this, it would be the opposite, they would have to leave a lot of meaningful content on the ‘cutting room floor’ in order to reduce it to an hour. This documentary had so much potential, there is so many issues, topics & angles they could have continued to explore more or gone into, yet they just start to scratch the surface & then put in arbitrary, generic B roll footage & filler content. I would love to hear the director explain why there is so much generic material spliced into this film. Maybe, for whatever reason (legal, threats of lawsuits, rush to production/deadline issues etc.,) they had to take out a significant amount of the material they film & thus were left with little relevant information to work with.
This was so bad. So much filler. I didn’t get the point of this at all. Really just a lame documentary with no substance of anything.
I watched the first 10 mins and that was enough - unsettling is the word.

Aaron just posted a video responding to this documentary and saying it was obviously Scientology behind it since they focuses too much on Karen and Jeffrey. Why do they have so much influence on him! Wouldn’t he be concerned she was using Scientology to defraud people?
Seriously, that was your takeaway? Did we watch the same video? Aaron only brought up the possibility of Scientology's involvement. Moreover Lara herself discussed how she was unable to get the hours of footage that were cut which she found suspect. 1. The focus was on Lara's phone call with her dad. 2. He went on to cover Alex Hebers death. That was also cut from the film. 3. Aaron took the risk of messaging Karen while a SO member to let her know.
More importantly, you're making this a battle between ex Scientologists rather than keeping the focus on Scientology's abuses. I don't think you're OSA. I just question your motives. I think Karen is creepy but it doesn't diminish the death of her son and Scientology's role in it.

He used Lara as a smokescreen because her experience was awful, then makes sure to add Jeffrey and Karen in as victims of the film. They are hardly that. Maybe he’s just emotionally attached with them because he gave her the news or perhaps they’ve been funding him. Who knows but something odd is going on.
A cult can also form around ex members of a cult. I think it would be absolutely awful if they are helping people get out of Scientology but they are then victims of independent practicing Scientologists who gouge them for thousands of dollars, learn all their secrets and then harass them if they dare speak out. Also, why is Aaron lying that it’s more about the Carriere’s and not the children? It’s 75%, the children and 25%, them. And where did the doc make them look bad or criticize them?
