Leah was brought into this as a child. I don't think she would have fallen for this as an adult. She appears to have a strong sense of self. Leah is fascinating and a captivating speaker. She's the perfect person to call out this cult.
I agree. That and the push for a Hollywood career I think, as many actors are in it and it was likely a good way to network when she was growing up. But I agree, she would never have joined as an adult
I agree... But it's no different than christianity and Jesus today. Many christians were brought into that nonsense as children and could not shake it until adulthood. And, honestly, most people still can't shake it as adults. It took me a long time to become a logical adult and stop believing in the christian nonsense. Because, here we are today, many of us so-called "logical" christians, laughing and knocking down Scientology, and the going clear, the space spirits that were thrown into volcanoes, and Xenu, all while at the same time believing that christ walked on water, fed thousands with one fish and resurrected after being murdered three days earlier! We spent years criticizing the scientology bullshit while believing our own bullshit at the same time. Many people will not want to hear it, but christianity, islam, Buddhism, Judaism, any religion really, are all as much of a cult as scientology is. And the biggest culprit is christianity, which has been brainwashing and robbing people for centuries before L. Ron Hubbard had a bright idea that one day!
She will talk in depth and quote Scientology text. She will correct someone who says a term wrong or using the term in the wrong context. She will also say that the Xenu story is not literal but is a metaphor that dives into the core of human psyche. Who would care enough to continue to quote text word for word? Why would someone correct anyone who used the text wrong? Lastly why would someone take the most damning evidence on Scientology and explain that this bullshit sci-fi story is made for people who think on a higher level that knows to not take this tale as literal?

She did, and so I do absolutely say good for her ON THAT. However, she very clearly still seems to reflexively have an air of superiority about her. Now, maybe this was her personality even before she joined the church, I don't know. But hearing her explain back these processes to Joe (tho I've seen this repeatedly when she's doing it to other talk/podcast show hosts, for that matter), sure she's talking about really weird shit, but the nuts and bolts of what she's saying is pretty straight forward. And yet, she keeps on interrupting herself to ask the person "are you getting this?", and when the interviewer isn't even giving any outward sign that they're totally lost. It's this sort of passive/aggressive way she's maintaining this "no hon, you're just not gonna get it unless I explain it to you in this very specific way" (and what turns out to be a fairly simple way). It's this constant expectation that the person listening to her isn't smart or open enough to fully grasp what she's saying. That is NOT a positive attribute to have in your personality, I'm sorry.
Well if they take her out that just means that everything shes saying is right. They want to make it seem like shes a psycho and has no idea what shes talking about. It's all about misdirection. They could care less about the public opinion, all they care about is their followers opinion.
My wife almost got wrapped up into scientology right before I met her. When she moved in I noticed their mail all the time in my mail box so much it was driving me insane, I started calling all the numbers on the mail to get my address removed from their list. Then they started calling all the time, when I got on the phone with them I sternly told them this is a Christian house hold. One day they actually came to our door in hazmat suits ( no joke from head to toe hazmat suits during covid, I answered the door thinking it was covid related and on their chest it said the church of scientology and I lost my mind in shock they came to the house. I literally lit them up verbally and told them to get the F off my front porch and never come back. They never did and everything stopped. Be stern with these psychos. They only want your money and to destroy your family.
She is a brave woman and I'm glad she's shutting light on this, but can Joe Rogan please shut up and quit interrupting every 2 seconds?! We would have got a lot more out of her if he had just been courteous, ask her a question and then let her answer it. It's like he wants to have equal time to the guest and isn't some kind of competition. If somebody goes way off course, I understand but he would ask a question and she would say two words and then he would say something else before she even completed the statement. I think her story is amazing and I would have liked to have heard her be able to say it without constant interruptions!

Scientology is similar to a lot of institutions of belief that prey on weak people through pressure and coercion. It's a numbers game for them. Cults tend to suck people in who are looking for answers and ways to expand their understanding. Weak-minded people often wouldn't even bother to ask such questions in the first place and tend to just accept what's right in front of them and live in ignorance, so they wouldn't really be in a position to be bamboozled in such a manner. Plus cults tend to seek out and target wise and charismatic people to recruit since they will be more likely to bring in more followers once hooked. Ask any deprogrammer or psychologist...

True reality is an insect, fish, flower or your own body that are magical miracles to behold.
My uncle was a Scientologist. Also a chiropractor, go figure. He coerced my dad to go to the church in San Francisco. Dad was hooked up to the e meter. He tried to see what was on the screen and the auditor covered the machine and said “you can’t look”. Dad promptly dropped the soup cans and forcefully walked out the front door. Made it to a street pay phone and called mom to rescue him. We still get phone calls and mail 30 years later.

That's how religion works. Most people aren't stupid enough to fall for religion as an adult, but when you're a kid you're easily brainwashed.

If they can just get 2 out of every 150 people to at least generate interest and get them to a certain level where they spend money (or signe a document putting themselves in debt) they can perpetuate their false belief system.
The story of Scientology... is at least more logical than the beliefs of Christians... who worship a criminal Jewish itinerant preacher as God who was executed for some concept of sin...
Believe it or not contrary to popular belief most cult members tend to be intelligent, rational, well-read individuals; not weak-minded simpletons.

I don't get this religion. Made by a man who was a SCIENCE FICTION WRITER.
So who do you think IS an appropriate person to create a religion? An insurance salesman? Graduate of a religious seminary? History professor? Politician? Lawyer? Landscaping laborer? Fisherman? Waitress? Professional clown? Mystic? Guru?
I ask because religions have been started by: carpenter (Jesus of Nazareth), nobleman (Siddhārtha Gautama - Buddhism), businessman-trader (Muhammed - Islam), King (Henry VIII - Anglican). What's so bad about SCIENCE FICTION WRITERS?
Every religion is made by man and all are fiction writers.
As for christianity it wasnt started by a carpenter but a traveling conartist/faithhealer. And thats IF there ever was a guy on whom the character was based.

One of my friends in high school was a scientologist, as well as his whole family. When his Mom died I was invited to the funeral. It was held at the scientology center in Clearwater, so I went with my family. It was one of the weirdest experiences of my life. You had to let them do background checks on everyone before you were even cleared to come to the funeral. They had security guards in suits with ear pieces that had to let you in and escort you all the way to the room where the funeral was held. At the funeral they fully went into the whole Xenu thing with the volcano and something about those beings. It was all very surreal. Looking back I'm surprised that they were open about the whole Xenu thing in the presence of a bunch of non-scientologists. Sadly as soon as my friend graduated he jumped all in to a job in Scientology and haven't heard from him since.

This is an example of a real life "The Emperor's New Clothes". This short story, written by Hans Christian Andersen, about two weavers who promise an emperor a new suit of clothes that they say is invisible to those who are unenlightened, is what Scientology is doing.
Morton Guerrero I thought it was the other way around.
You have a point. It may be. But, ask yourself, in truth, why are there so many of us turning away from structured organized religions? The whole, that void we all have and need to fill is still here. Enlightenment is an eternal search for truth, with-in our own existence. To find that you have been duped, is hard to admit and even more difficult to over come. Good for all who try.
Morton Guerrero I get it now. My memory was at fault. I thought it was that they made him clothes that were only *visible* to those below him in order to trick him into making a fool of himself. The moral was simple; vanity and egotism is wrong. Maybe someone just retold the story and that's what I read. Maybe my brain just made up it's own story out of false memory because it's been so many years.
the people were too afraid to say the obvious and it took a small boy to say ""look, the emperor is naked""
It's all just tribalism. We humans are a social species. We are _taught_ to care about what others think of us from birth. That is why hermits are so rare (and odd, to most of us). We are _programmed_ to be slaves to the opinions and acceptance of others in our mothers' wombs.
