  • This video is long overdue, as I wanted to do the museum experience justice. I had a fantastic day and if you're looking for something to do on a Sunday, I can definitely recommend paying the Tramway Museum a visit!
So you know about the G:Link trams on the Gold Coast, and you probably know that Brisbane USED to have trams, up until the late 1960's. But did you know that some of these old trams have been preserved? On a Sunday afternoon, you can make your way over to Ferny Grove and head to the Brisbane Tramway Museum to spend a few hours checking out our Trams of old!
As part of the 135 years of Public Transport in Brisbane celebration, the Tramway Museum had a special opening day on the 9th of August, in conjunction with the Queensland Omnibus and Coach Society (QOCS) who brought along a few of their own buses to show off.
Here is the first part of the 135 years of Public Transport in Brisbane, where Bus 100 and a replica Horse-drawn tram were on display in King George Square:

Good video thank you. Trams were fantastic and I was lucky enough to travel school and the city on most forms of them that were running between 1959 and 1969 before being taken to school on the Leyland Panther buses. I was also unlucky in witnessing the Paddington Tram Depot burning to the ground. I could feel the heat from the fire in my house at Ashgrove.

This is good stuff many years since I've been there. Back then we wondered if trams would return to Brisbane. It seemed possible twenty years ago. I'm a great one for things from the past making a comeback like yesterday once more but it wasn't to be. I along with some of the guys out there talked about the dream of seeing some of these gems back on the tracks around the city. It didn't happen but at least these teams still exist out at ferny Grove thanks to the efforts of the marvelous volunteers.

I'm glad I got to pop over to the Ferny Grove museum before I moved interstate. It's a great experience to check out, and a real time capsule.
If only we could go back in time and convince policy-makers during the 1940s, 50s, 60s and 70s that the car reliant future was going to have consequences.

@@TalkingPlanning yes most certainly go back time ( I'd change a few things to be sure) and tell Clem Jones not to listen to the USA car lobby. Clem did some great things but this wasn't one of them.

I've never seen an FM tram with wooden seating, was this an early version? Was it air brake equipped as 554 would have been? It's a shame Brisbane removed its trams at all

You're not the only one to think it was a shame the trams left Brisbane streets! Apparently, the wooden seats were how they were delivered, but most were refurbished to the design we know!

14:30 The last 8 FM trams weren't really replacements as such, they were built from components salvaged from the Paddington tram depot fire and were painted light blue with phoenix emblems below the motormans windows, to symbolise that the trams had risen from the ashes of the fire.

The 136 livery on the front is the original livery as it was hidden

Its quite a 'sudden' colour combination! But glad it is being kept in original condition. Looking forward to seeing it run eventually
