My family moved from Grafton on the Clarence River in 1958, Dad was transferred here with his work. We lived in East Brisbane, and I went to School in Fortitude Valley. I'd catch the Ascot tram going to school and come home on the Balmoral tram. I LOVED riding the trams. I was just eleven years of age when I arrived in Brisbane. Now I'm seventy five and I still miss those tram rides. Even the ads on radio and television, "Ring Ding, Ring-a-Ding flavours, just say Tristram's please"...They truly were good old days!
Great show. I wanted to be there but circumstances prevented it. Your video means I didn't really miss out after all. Congratulations to the Tramway Museum for running a very successful day. Hopefully more of the public will appreciate what Brisbane lost and hopefully may get back again in future.
... the removal of those streetcars was an unmitigated government screwup ... I was a child in Brisbane then ... the sooner they put back tracks from New Farm Park o South Brisbane via Fortitude Valley and a downtown Brisbane the better ... don’t delay ... even tiny little Tucson, Arizona where I now live has a beautiful new streetcar system ...
great comment. i used to put it down to incompetence then malice. then i researched further and see the destruction has all been planned. Adrian doesn't have a clue what's going on and believes himself selected on merit. im not here to break any hearts. "get back to where we once belonged"
