Smaller more frequent busses with dedicated lanes would be amazing. Instead, we have giant busses running empty and stuck in traffic...

Part of the problem is the train frequencies are just trash outside Peak hours, trains should be running every 15min like they do in Sydney. Another Problem is Brissy doesnt have enough express tracks for faster trains like Sydney & Melbourne do, and the tracks that are there are slow and winding where Perth & Adelaide have straight and direct alignments allowing faster speeds, so there needs to be an effort to build more fast express tracks once Cross River Rail is done. And lastly the Bus Network needs to be reworked so that bus routes feed trains rather than everything try and run into the City. The Trouts Road NWTC Reservation should be a quad track railway with 160kmh all the way fron Petrie to Alderley then directly into the Cross River Rail Tunnel.

good stuff brother, i do feel that a lot of inner city public transport should not be focused on at the moment, rather outer suburban rail should be a more major focus. other than that i totally agree with this video

I do understand where you're coming from but to me it makes more sense to improve public transport more in higher density corridors as then people would actually use it

We need to sort out out road/rail crossings as this holds traffic up. Another thing to take into consideration is out freight uses our suburb lines in some branches and our markets used to be at Roma street.

Agreed with every comment with the exception of the new "metro" buses which are just planners having a bob each way. Also not all overseas metros operate 24/7 - I know personally that both London and Moscow tube/metro don't operate late at night. It takes longer to get from Landsborough to the Gold Coast than it does from London to Paris.

Some Tube lines in London are 24 Hours on Weekends, in SEQ the only 24-hour services we have are the 700 Bus on the Gold Coast, which is 24/7, 61 and 66 Gliders on Weekends and the Gold Coast Light Rail between Broadbeach South and the Hospital on weekends

Some thoughts about how Brisbane can have a better transport network and cut car reliance/congestion
    - Brisbane need more bus lanes and transit lanes to improve bus route journey times and reliability
    - state government needs a more long term strategy for heavy rail so it can more of the heavy lifting. The rail network should be servicing all journeys and not just focusing on commuters. State gov needs to stop pumping out more motorway widening projects for SEQ using outdated "predict and provide" transport planning
    - trams are probably not the right solution for Brisbane - it's a vast city and trams are the slowest option for public transport
    - better bus-rail integration is needed. Brisbane needs a network of high frquency bus routes to better connect the city. we have plenty of radial routes but there are few east-west routes to connect these up.
    - there is a massive opportunity to get people walking and cycling to their closest transit station - Brisbane needs to build the cycleways and footpaths though

Wow good video, covered it. I still find it funny that we had better public transport with the trams 50 years ago, I was told growing up it's because we don't have enough people, then I visited switzerland. Amazing public transport in tiny towns and their roads are perfect for driving. I suspect their roads are in such good condition because they don't have to cope with the volume of car traffic, because not every trip is made by car. So, less money needs to be invested in maintaining them.
Pity you didn't do the cycle lanes. I finished a uni degree before the 20 metres to connect the centenary one to Jindalee was finished - council told me they had their 2 best people working on it at the time. Find riding once that was finished, way quicker and more reliable than the bus to the city & don't have to wait around for hours at night. E bikes are game changing - Brisbane is now flat.

Let’s not be too nostalgic. We just kept adding roads, or lanes to existing roads. We were creating our then future, and now current problems.
I’m not pointing fingers, I’m just as bad with driving. 🚗

I’ll have to watch this later. I get so upset when I think about how Brisbane could have been one of the greatest public transport cities in the world. If only we hadn’t foolishly scrapped the second largest light rail network in the southern hemisphere which today would still rank No. 3 in the world after St Petersburg and still No 1 Melbourne.

A major issue is getting people to also understand they can use public transport. Yes you have to have the infrastructure and services there to be used, but people love their cars and it’s a mindset that’s imbedded.

Brisbane lacks a major observation tower. Unlike cities such as Sydney with the Sydney Tower Eye or Melbourne with the Eureka Skydeck, Brisbane does not have a prominent observation tower that offers panoramic views of the city and its surroundings.

Metros (real ones not the brt we’re getting) are better. That is true. But that doesn’t make trams horrible.
