How did NL ever learn to play this game? There are so many choices to make pre-game. The amount of tutorial exceeds his normal limit

The tutorial is only daunting if you read it
As others mentioned, he has played it before. There is a lot to learn but it's mainly interactions / strategy as opposed to how the game plays
Easy man, he reads just enough to feel like he's made 1 or 2 sensible decisions and then he just send it. The real question is why it doesn't work out like that in more games.

I really hope this is a catalyst for a new consistent co-op line of content. I have watched NL long enough to know that this hope is fruitless, but Dan, Sips, and Malf lineup would be pure content on some Across the Obelisk

Across the Obelisk is great.
The DLC being the same price as the base game for barely any content is insane though. Don't buy at full price.

Sheesh dlc more expensive than base game, but if it works as other paradox dlcs only the host has to buy it, which makes it slightly more reasonable. Still a million times better than battle passes or lootboxes

Brother the UI is scuffed, yet again, like 50 objects on screen while building the deck, cards have too much text and symbols, its just overwhelming
Maybe if we all pool our money together we can just sponsor him to play baldurs gate
holy shit ngl the most poplar competitive deck in any magic format by a land slide is some form of blue red cantrip tempo. people love agency selecting what cards they draw and planning out plays even when the deck isn't good or positioned well people will still play the arc type because it feels good.

This game seems really complicated compared to like Slay the Spire of Wildfrost, how long does it take to learn how to play? Does it have a good tutorial to teach you the basics?
EDIT: okay now that he's in a fight it doesn't look as bad, just the beginning made me think of when your friend wants to show you a board game they swear is super fun but then it takes like an hour to read the rules and get set up and by the time you're done you're already over it lmao

You can play a game called "Hellcard" which has co-op multiplayer.
Paradox makes a lot of good games, but you have to be careful. That DLC train will get you!

Great game, but I bounced off of it due to just how long runs take. I'd much prefer shorter runs so I can try out more playstyles and card synergies (unless things have changed, I haven't played since before the first DLC. And haven't even watched this video yet!)

I love this game but the pricing of the dlc is so bad, the base game cost £16 and they're charging £20 for one new zone and 2 new characters, just doesn't seem right to me. I would wait for a huge sale before getting the dlc.
NL should play some Gordian Quest it's like this with better art on a small grid and you get loot to make em stronger. I feel it could be a good fit for banter and gameplay while it's a bit overwhelming at first and theres many difficulty levels and modes.

How is this game comparable to darkest dungeon
This one lost me during the setup phase. I think what a lot of these Spire-likes miss is that its simplicity that makes Spire so playable and addictive. The depth comes from the myriad ways you can combine the simple components together. In this every card does two or three things, so every turn either requires complex calculations or just guesswork. I think its definitely a case of less is more. Perhaps this can get away with it with multiplayer, as each person only has to manage one deck, but that doesn't reduce the fundamental complexity of playing each turn.
If you play the Campaign it doesn't have the setup phase. You start with standard decks with randomized rewards. Just like Slay the Spire. NL was just a weirdo picking a mode for experienced players for his first time.

Do note that he entered Challenge mode without knowing what the heck was going on. Much easier to learn the basics if you play story mode first (also more fun imo)

The game is good, but the dlc is way overpriced. One map, two characters and its the same price as the base game. I really loved the game before the dlc as each one has been overpriced with way too little content.
