  • I went for a swim training every day for 30 days to see how much faster I could get. I swam 110K in about 35-40 hours in the pool. Here`s the video about the process.
    Thanks for watching!
    Sven.

    I swam everyday for 4 months before covid struck. I was swimming 1 hour a day and doing about 1500 metres per session. I lost 15kg (33 pounds). I've just started swimming again trying to lose more weight but I'll admit that my motivation has waived. I can only be bothered to swim about 750metres in 30 mins. But this is going to be my week getting back into it.

      Wow 15 kg, impressive! Yeah I always just tried to focus less on numbers and more on showing up and enjoying the movement/flow of things more when I hit a little bump in my motivation. You got this, good luck with the comeback to swimming! 👏🏻🙌🏻

    I think with swimming especially if your tense, you won’t perform as good as when your loose and having fun. Your body needs to flex and for that it needs to be relaxed but still have burst of energy, which comes with excitement of having fun and adrenaline.

    • @SvenVee
      @SvenVee  3 роки тому +5

      Couldn't agree more and has always been my experience too. That's why it's so important for coaches to train their swimmers' mental approach to races too. Meditation etc. can work wonders. Thanks for watching and the input!

      Exactly. If ever I feel sluggish and as though I’m fighting to gain speed, I tell myself to just relax and chill out and take the pressure off myself and then my speed picks up because I relax.

    Hey Sven, this video was awesome. From a guy in a very similar position as you as a swimmer, but from a perspective we’re my mental health has been down recently, this really speaks to me as a way to get back doing something that’s going to improve my life in a few areas.
    Do you still have the notes of the workouts that you were doing for this challenge? I would really want to see them and try to create a program that works for me based upon them

    • @SvenVee
      @SvenVee  3 роки тому

      Ah thank you so much Adam. Yes it really upped my mood and mental state at the time too.
      Unfortunately, I can't find them anymore. I just looked, but I think they got thrown out with that little notebook thing since it was all used up a couple months ago.
      Generally I can just say that I went progressively further on average each week, with the first weeks just focused on covering the distance of around 2.5K every session (little to no sprints or endurance timed sets), to then incorporate more and more endurance sets from week three onward + longer distances 3K upwards to 5K. My endurance sets were usually 6x200m timed at around +20" to +"26 per three. Or like 10x100m with 4 progressively timed (+24" to +14") and one rest, times two. Or something fun and intense like 16x50m at +2"/+4". My rest was usually at 30-45 sec. I made sure to not do 2 heavy workouts after each other if I could help it. On the chill days, I focused more on technique sets, turns and starts, with maybe some short fun 25m sprints/climactics in there. I'd also recommend doing one session a week with a 2x50m sprint or something in there. Just to get that competitive feeling a bit again and keep things interesting. Hope this helps somewhat. Good luck man!

    • @SvenVee

      Depends on the rules of the pool. I generally did swim with a cap, just some moments didn't because it feels more relaxed. It's good to be more streamlined in the water (less resistance) and to protect your hair a bit though, so generally recommend it. Thanks for watching!

    That's the f-ing problem with swimming and overall high performance sports man.
    You train hard everyday and throughout those days it clearly seems that you are improving but when it comes to that moment it's as if you have done nothing before.
    The only thing you can do is accept it and try to improve, until you hit a time that you will never break again

      Swimming would help more, but beware that the cold water and calorie burn will cause more hunger. So overeating seems very common with quite a lot of swimmers post training.

      Yes you can if you put a lot of effort into it and maybe get some form of personal trainer if possible.
      Don’t expect to get good results after 3 months, it will most likely take 6-8 months, because you need to develop good core strength, good technique and a cardiovascular system that’s optimised for swimming before you can start doing 50-100 miles a month (as an example). These three requirements in my experience if you are going to do freestyle are very important.

      @@SvenVee I do. It’s just good practice at the swimming pool. Plenty of info why.
      It will keep your hair out of the pool, keep hair out of your face so that you can focus on your workout, protect your hair from chlorine, keep your head warm, keep you safe, and it will help you swim faster…
      First one being the most important.

      I wear one 98% of the time haha.
      Sometimes I just like the feeling of not having one on, simple 🤷🏻‍♂️
