You need a mining ship to sell the ore, i wasted 5 hours trying to figure out my issue. Regular traders cant carry ORE! you need a mining ship to be a trader for raw minerals
That seems so be the no1 issue people overlook while troubleshooting. I'll pin the comment :)
Thank you for this detailed video, i would have given up without it.@@WatchMysh
I don't really know why you'd ship raw ore, though. At least for the Commonwealth economy, each raw resource only turns into one processed product. Just process the ore into its Tier 1 product right there and then ship that.
@@alanj9978 It's to teach basic functions of the game and a source of automated income early game which works faster than single miners. Sometimes you can also use mining stations as a hub to distribute it to your own stations. All a question of play style.
I was incredibly desperate, i would have shipped out my grandmothers collectables at that point.@@alanj9978
Bloody hell, after 4 hours of endless scrolling and suffering....
Your video has greatly assisted me in finally constructing a new mining facility,
from the clear and detailed explanation and steps, to the appropiate video duration and precise showings.
I very much appreciate your work and have subscribed to see more.
This 4part series needs to be a mandatory watch for new players.
Great clear and well paced. Thankyou
This video is pure gold, I was stuck on the simplest mechanics of base building like actually snapping parts together and no one on youtube showed how to do that lmao.
Happy to help. :) Can't believe no one did this lol...
in fact, you do not even need to snap them. It's just for looks.
Been playing since 2018, you're doing good work helping players with stuff that can be obtuse for newcomers.
Thanks! :) Yes, that's what I'm trying to do.
When your mining manager gets to 3 stars, you can extend your sale range by operating a trade station 3 jumps away that will buy and redistribute ore across another 2-3 jumps, significantly increasing your available markets, ensuring your product can find a buyer somewhere (even if it has to change hands a few times).
Amazing Tutorial!! Have to say not many are so dedicated in making such an easy and clear to follow guide. Thank you for hard work.
Thank you! :) Appreciate it! These tutorials eat a lot of time in the making. Don't know if I can keep this up on the long run - depends on how succesful they are. My UA-cam time competes with my "other occupation" time.
Thank you for all the great X4 vids! I usually don’t comment but this one is for the algorithm :)
Thanks for the algo comment! Helps a lot! 🤗
Thank you so much, im 200 hours into this game and this is the first time sombody has told me the issue with the failed orders on station asigned traders
Amazing tutorials. You anticipate most of the issues we encounter and head us off before we stub our foot. I also appreciate how concise they are; I have little interest in a 3-hour tutorial.
Thanks! Saving you time is my top priority :)
This guide is exactly I was looking for. Excellent tutorial!
Thanks for the appreciation :) I put a lot of effort into these guides.
Just started playing X4 Foundations and this helped immensely! Thanks!
You're welcome! :)
Best build a station vid I`ve found so far! Thanks
I started to give up on this game because I did not understand. Thanks to you I will try it again
I guarantee you if you watch all 4 tutorials I did in sequence you'll be just fine :)
WOW. Ive tried so many times with X4 but just cant get to grips with it. I guess i'm too use to Elite and Eve. Ive played over 300 hours trying to get to grips over the years and never got a station going. It just shows how hopelessly lost I have been. Your guide is amazing and has totally blown me away. Why have I been so thick. Ill be trying the game again but this time slowly following your guides. Station building is a whole new dimension for me. Thanks.
Great Video and nicely recorded. 👍
looking forward for the next Video with the industrial complex.
Finally, I’ve found someone who can explain things, THANK YOU VERY MUCH
Lol you're welcome. And thanks! 🤗 Welcome to the channel!
Thank you for these easy to follow tutorials.
Excellent timing for me, since the Steam Summersale gave me some X3 nostalgia, so I bought X4.
Happy to help! :) Have fun!
Also, set up a miner ship to run repeat trades to other stations to keep your ore sold off. For the sale destinations, add as many locations as needed to always keep that ship busy. If your station ore level gets depleted, assign more mining ships to prevent that. Enjoy the profitsss.
Imagine trying to understand this game if youtube didn't exist. Thanks for the info!
You're welcome :)
Thank you, this was short and clear just as it should be.
Nice - I've been waiting for this one! I just built a monstrosity stumbling through trying to make a silicon factory work (and wasted a bunch of credits in the process). Very well put together as usual.
Someone was just asking me about a video breakdown on this. Will recommend this one!
Happy to help :) And thanks for recommending the channel. Helps more than you might expect :)
Thank you for this. The trade restriction and the sell failures were stopping my mining bases from working.
Thank you for making these tutorials.
You're welcome! Thanks for watching :)
That really is a banger sir here !!! I've totally missed (after 100+ hours of gameplay still....) That when assigning miners and traders to a base their level and capabilities would be the one from the manager. That makes sense when saying / writing it as it seems legit that the manager leads them, but you've explained and illustrated this so well !!! Thanks again for sharing that knowledge ! Can't wait for the next step ! Btw thanks as well for sharing your shortcuts in the beginners video, changed the way I fly (especially shortcuts on the mouse)
You're welcome! :) Trying my best to make the best tutorials possible.
Another excellent tutorial. Subbed.
Thank you :)
Great great stuff. Very simple to understand
Thanks! Did my best to make the guide as easy to follow as possible :)
Yet another great tutorial cheers!

Thanks for making a Video about small Stations. Even as a Veteran in X i learnt something new 😅

Should be up within a few hours :)
This game is such a underrated gem. I dont know exactly why, I also had a hard time getting into the game even though I've been a huge fan of games like Freelancer, Elite and EVE Online. But X4 ticks all the boxes.
It is :)
Very good playlist. I think i will try the game. I was a bit scared to get lost after the tutorial but not anymore haha

BEST GUIDE EVER
Thanks :)
Hey thanks for that video man, im like 50 hours old into X4 and I really wanted to do exactly what you just showed me, but the in game tutorials didnt help. Looking forward to your next video, as I have 8 medium miners already I can tell that I would need to build larger solid storage and a second dock so that there is less que's for the ships.
You're welcome. Yes, you need to expand the whole thing. For 8 miners a 3M6S dock should work fine though.
Next video will be the production complex - but after that I don't know. Anything you'd want to know?
The more specific X4 tutorials aren't watched that much and take a lot of time to make. But you can help a ton by sharing them around! :)
4:58 at last someone explained this I just spent like 2 hours trying to figure out wth should I do how to hire a builder jeezzz thank you
Mission accomplished ^^ HF! :) If you have more questions just ask here in the comments.
Very usefull, thank you !
This is probrably not talked about, but if you click on manage plots button, you can "Spy" on where Khaak and Xenon stations are at or being developed by finding their plots that are oddly placed
Thank you, I was missing the trade restriction list trick.
You're welcome! :)
your voice recording is so nice and crisp i just love listening your voice deep in my earholes like uhhhh idk i love it
Lol glad you like my setup.
Pause bro
Thanks bro your a Legend.
Np! :) Welcome to the channel! :)
i spent over an hour getting so mad at not being able to figure out why my TRADERS were refusing to take my ore....live and learn
instead I made it a trading station:
just added some liquid and container storage. (designed one in the station manager).
if 100% is full price...just buy at 25-30% and sell at 40%..
generally works...
add some miners, and traders,
only buy what you mine from your own.
and you'll make more then just ORE.
for argon I like to start at second contact flashpoint 2.
there is ore and ice there, ore in the reach, and ore+silicon in second contact 7.
if you have a 3 star manager all in range.
1 gate south of argon prime.
Awesome advice! Thanks for sharing it!
Just Thx you!!! They should make your video mandatory to play X4 :)
You're welcome! :)
so helpful, the game sucks at telling you how to do stuff. Didn't even know about blueprints till he said it
Thanks! :) Glad I could help!
I do not have this job...I mean rather play this game(?) LOL I am interested but holy moley! I can appreciate the thoroughness and the detail it contains but this is way too much like a job - no career for me. Don't get me wrong, all the detail and minute specifics are enticing, but I just do not have the required amount of time to invest in it.
That all said, you sir know how to teach. That is a rare gift and I applaud your efforts to help out the community!
Thanks for the appreciation :) I try to improve with every upload to make learning complex games easier and more fun.
Great video really helped me get into the game. Now I've built a factory to produce off the products though my miners are suddenly saying "No buyers found in range". My settings are exactly the same as yours and before I added a factory to produce off the Silicon it worked fine. Its almost like the base has decided it doesn't want Silicon anymore despite it being in need of it for production...! I can manually transfer the ore/silicon but that kinda defeats the object of an automated setup...
if your miners are going to mine too far away from the station eg in other sector (due to high manager level) you can set a repeat order to a miner (instead of it being a subordinate) and repeat mining ore/silicon next to station and set it to sell to your station. it will continue to mine and sell automatically
Didn't try making my own station. I just assumed it would be prohibitively expensive, since just buying a L trade ship costs upwards of 1M credits. But this looks like you can get every piece for less than that. Gonna try it tomorrow.
Yes a basic station isnt as expensive as you'd expect :)
I tried to mine in The Reach but about 6 to 8 Xen came and wiped out my mining fleet. I only have 2 fighter craft and both were destroyed while trying to drive them off. It's very hard to get started, as most of the missions I've seen only pay around 50K. Automining in Argon Prime seems very slow but it's the safest place for now.
My mining base is up and running :)
Bro speaking like teacher :D
necessary for this kind games...
I know y'all like it like this!
Hey, nice content, are you using any graphics mods? My game does not look that cool even on max settings
Thanks :) No, it's all vanilla. Running @4k / 3090 / 5800X3d
I haven't been able to get the miners to mine or store anything automatically. Manually i have been able to, but i can only get them to store the ore in the build storage.
Manager is 2 star, auto mining is at 1 star, but the ore is in the same vicinity of my HQ. Storages are connected to my station, not sure if that matters.
I Had the wrong storage.. Also why make a trade rule to buy ore form yourself? couldn't you click a button to not buy ore at all?
My ships normally travel to the sector where I provide l produce energy cells looking to buy but claim there are no allowed trades. I don't see how when they're right next to the factor that sells to them for free
vrey nice thx
You're welcome :)
I learned to play dwarf fortress this game can’t be much harder it’s all there to rewatch
It's casual compared to df :D
@@WatchMysh Df is casual to me by now certainly needed more than 4 videos to get the hang of it haha
is their a reason for using 2 smaller storage and not a single medium? which costs less than 2 smalls to build and holds 2x more than the 2 combined.
No. It's just that the small blueprint is cheaper and you can run a basic mining base even with one S module. I just put two on my base here for aesthetics and convenience.
can you select what your miners mine? great video btw!
Thanks! Yes of course. Check my automining tutorial.
@@WatchMysh I did! but here you just select mine for commander and didnt select a resource.
@@lycon7000 The manager automatically sends them out to mine whatever is needed for production.
@@WatchMysh but what if theres no productions in your station? Or do you mean production of factories nearby?
@@lycon7000 If there's no demand for the product they won't mine anything. But if you have a mining station set up it will generate the demand for ore and consequentially the miners will go and mine.
Hi Mysh. Do you have any idea why my freighter fails when trying to transfer cargo drones to it? I have a pier so it can dock. It just wont transfer them without the yellow failed to complete order message.
Hmm. Don't know if I understood your question correctly but if you want to outfit your freighter with cargo drones you need to have it docked at a shipyard. Cargo drones can be added in the upgrade Menu then. Haven't played in a long while and will get back into the game with the next DLC. But that's how I remember it worked.
@@WatchMysh Thanks for your reply. The problem was my freighter wouldnt transfer its cargo drones to my station. Ive found out that the reason was because i was trying to transfer 2 cargo drones which left the freighter with none so it wouldnt work. I transferred one leaving one on the freighter and it worked. I will definitely be watching all vids you do on timelines and version 7. I love this game but feel im way in over my head with most things. Thanks again!
Thanks a lot for your video! I'm not sure what I did wrong, but I can see the station buying and selling Ore to my miner (only my miners have access to the station as per your guide), but I'm making no money at all from it. I have 4 miners to auto mine, and 4 miners to from the station. Any idea what I could have missed? :(
Check if money accumulates in the station account. You can withdraw it manually then. :)
@@WatchMysh Oh yeah.. god this game is hell complex. Thanks for clarifying so fast!
I played this game since release.
Today I learned that Shift will snap in an 45 angle and the number before the incoming ships are the minutes...
these videos have helped me a lot, yet I can't open station or logical overview, it just exits out of the menu
Weird. Cant help you with that sorry. Maybe ask on reddit or the official forum?
Quick question. I’m a new player and have only about 30 hours into the game. I ended up just making a fleet of miners that did “local mine” action. Is this not the same with extra steps? What are the advantages of this kind of station, is this just to cover showing how to build a station and it turn into an ore refinery?
I explained it in the video. It gives low level miners the opportunity to mine locally and sell in different sectors. It also lays the foundation to expand the base later on into a production/processing facility.
hey could you do a video on your graphic setting i feel like mine are high but i dont know what to turn down and still get good quality if thats possible
X4 is not very heavy on the GPU. Only volumetric fog and AA are performance hogs. What CPU/GPU combo are you running?
Where is 4/4 of this awesome guide?

yes i found it shortly after@@WatchMysh thank you. Keep up the good work and release more videos. More people are coming to this great game as the AAA space titles continue to make Ego soft look better and better. I want to buy shares in them :)
It's weird, I have everything set up in the same way but my Trading ships keep claiming there's no trades to be made. So I made it as cheap as I could just to see if they'd do it, but it's the same. But if I set the mining ships to auto-mine, they're still able to sell their ore. So now I have 20k ore and no idea how to get it off station to sell aha~. I haven't been playing long so I'm sure I'll get this.
Hmm weird. Try to re-assign the trader and see what happens. Do you have satellites placed at the stations you want to sell to?
You saved me from uninstalling this game lol
lol you're welcome.
I have a question that idk if i messed it up or what, when i trained the station manager with seminars so the trader can go through 2 gates, turns out the miners can also do it, and my miners decided to jump through a gate to go somewhere else to mine instead in the sector i am which is where i want them to mine, is there a way to prohibit the miners from going through gates?
Yes. You can blacklist sectors in the station's settings.
@@WatchMysh Yupp that did it, but i also found out i had a resource probe in another sector, and i guess the ships detected better asteroids there so they were traveling to that specific sector with the probe, after self-destroying the probe and setting up one in the sector i want, they stayed there without any blacklist, but i will use blacklist in the future now that i know about it. Thanks!
just bought this game and got nowhere so i started watching these.. how are you supposed to figure this out without external help? i mean, merlin's tattered jockstrap, it's like wading through menus upon menus ..
Yeah that's why I made these tutorials. If you're new to the series the barrier of entry is kinda high.
What kind of ship for the trader? A courier?
If you want to trade ore it needs to be some kind of miner
@@WatchMysh Ah right gotcha, so a miner without the mining turrets, cheers
@@decado7 exactly. Traders have container storage and can't carry raw materials.
i have set everything using setting from your video but my miner keep giving me Failed order : Auto Mine , No buyers found in the sector
Correct storage type on the station? Storage full?
everything was checked, storage ,manager , how the station is build, trade rules. managed to get it fix by set the "sell all but" slider all the way to the right or 75% of it but the miner wont mine again after the ore storage almost reach the threshold 😭. the last workaround i did is just let the miner mine with the local automine setting from the behaviour tab let it mine at the station own sector and not from the "mine for commander" and everything else is follow by your video and.. its kinda worked idk man like todd howard said "it's Just work"
@@AlanCaliber Hm, I can't help further without checking the save file myself. But I don't have time for this. I'm really sorry. :( Lol @ Todd Howard.
@@WatchMysh its okay, the workaround that i did kinda fix the problem with the miner not mining, but new problem arrive at the reach like KHK keep harrasing my M miner 24/7
not start stuff but i love to see just how many ore etc processors i can stuff (with food and habitats and storage) into 2x2x2 i think when i last played i got to 16? edit: 10 refined metal 10 silicon wafers :P with 3x 6s3m and 1 large docks :P or 30 hull part modules in another 1 xD
Lol. I'd like to see that. Or maybe I'll try it myself first as a little challenge. :D
@@WatchMysh use the resource stuff for "movement" and place the solar panels at bottom in tight cluster since for some reason it wont affect how much they produce.... the 30 hull part crafter only needs 7 panels anyway :) you place the large connector juuuuust in away that people can connect to it (around the middle so that just the end point is "outside" the creation) in the end you pretty much have "solid" cube that you hardly can fly inside with space suit...
Set everything up, but my miners aren't mining. They just sort of fly around and do nothing with orange rocks next to their icons, and the popup when I hover over them says,
"Failed Orders:
Automine
No buyers found in allowed sectors"
You mentioned your traders doing that if your prices are too high, but my prices are as low as I can set them, and it's my miners who aren't cooperating. It's like they're on strike or something.
(Edit: same goes for the traders)
Hm troubleshooting is a bit complicated if I can't see all the settings. Did you train your manager properly? Did you place the satellites near stations that need the stuff you're selling? Your miners/traders either can't reach or can't find a place to sell. That's where I'd start.
@WatchMysh Thanks for the quick response, and no to the satellites. Frankly, I've been pretty bad about dropping those places. I'll put one next to the station and see if that fixes the problem.

X3 wasn't a lot different. Only Rebirth was more "casual". We've always loved EgoSoft since the 90s for being nerds.
Always the UI. Egosoft never learns. OH well... It's an X-game. They are not supposed to be easy.
The ui is an extra soulslike game within X4 ^^
seems a bit much only for you to find out you need a lvl 3 trader to do how the video shows. what's the point of getting a lvl 3 manager if the trader is the skill you really need. you need to be able to assign a trader to the station have have him do what ever the manager wants. seems way to much for something simple.
You dont need a level 3 trader, you need a level 3 manager. His skill will apply to all traders no matter their level.

I still don’t understand how you guys make money in this game… a miner takes like 6-7 hours of play time to pay for itself and missions are really rare if you take into account the type of mission your ship can handle/is built for.
Stacking up 50 different things is what works. Miners, scooping cargo in battle zones, police license, a big fat energy cell station at the highway, doing missions, etc.... it all makes a little money for itself but combined it's a big chunk. The moment you get your first hull parts factory running though... that's when you start to generate the big numbers
Heh i never buy modules
;)
ok so what a waist of time. i don't know why i didn't think of it earlier. you cant even do this with a freighter or a trader.. you make it seem like freighters can haul ore and sell it, but they cant. container storage is different then solid and liquid storage. so this is just BS. you are just building a station and having miners haul ore to the station, then just having miners haul from the station. Its not worth the effort. the game is designed for production. just sell your ore to some one that will buy it from the miner, or use it for production. do not waist your time doing this thinking a hauler will trade witht he best prices in the region or something. it doesn't work that way. I bassically just made a station for selling ore and hydrogen to other factions.... to bad no one HAULS ORE AND HYDROGEN.
If it doesnt fit your play style that's fine. :) The video's goal is to teach people as much about station building and management as possible in as short as possible. What you do afterwards is your own decision - but you know how to build and manage stations now. The last video of the series builds on these lessons and expands the station to a production facility.
I also dont make anything "seem like". I tell exactly what kind of freighter you need for which job. You just missed it.
ok. so i see how to do it even though the video doesn't show it. select your miner and right click the station and assign the miner to the trader role. If you get a high enough manager, it may be worth it. but at least this way the manager is controlling the sales.
@@jwilham Acquiring a three star manager is kinda affordable and quick with seminars from stations.
Good video but I would have used a crew member who wasn’t skilled in piloting. You assigned a two star pilot as a manager. You can use that pilot instead to fill shortages on a ship. What I would do is assign the least skilled crew member to manager roles, then level them up to two star level using seminars.
Pilot stars don’t come as easily as manager stars.
That's true. I didn't pay attention. :) How you do it is the correct way.
@@WatchMysh Thanks and appreciate it. Good editing on the video too. Hey what about trade stations? I’m trying to figure out how to make wares move between stations and not have to micro things.
@@Project_-jq7jw This is another interesting topic, yes. Actually I'm looking into it a little bit at the moment, since I haven't built pure distribution centers myself yet. But it's an interesting concept I'm thinking of making a video about.
