I've been to Australia 18 years ago where I got into touch with Something For Kate. I follow the band since that very day at the Homebake Festival in Sydney. The greatest thing was to see Paul Dempsey live twice in 2017 when he went through Europe for an acoustic tour through bars an private venues. This song is to me one of the best ones he has ever written - an absolute masterpiece from the first second till the last chord.
marcus holloway I couldn’t agree more ! Even more today than ever. There is so much meaningless junk music around that I just cannot connect with. I have been rediscovering past loves and finding myself loving it more. This man is a constant in my house. Many other great aussies as well like Tim Rogers you am I , tex Perkins in all his forms as well as all the amazing younger aussies. Smith street band, British India, violent soho, sticky fingers, gang of youths just to name a few. Aussie music rocks ! I saw Paul live just recently at a gorgeous out door gig on a river and I was in absolute heaven he was fantastic.
I think I am probably the only teenager in America that loves his music as much as I do. I started listening to something for Kate recently cause I loved his voice and when I found out Paul had his own music I was so excited to check it out and I haven't been able to stop listening to it. This is my favorite song probably but I still love all of his songs. He is very talented and amazing and for that he is one of my favorite musicians
justice dickson I caught a show of his in Philly many years ago and had no idea who he was. 2 songs into his set it could tell this guy had massive talent. Bought his cd straight from him afterwards. he was 1 of 3 bands in a bar with a crowd of like 50 people.
justice dickson im australian and i agree wholeheartedly. why hes not a household name here is beyond me. one of the best musicians to come out of Australia.😊
justice dickson I hope you will take Paul’s music with you through your life. It’s true talent raw and real it won’t age and if you end up like me it will reconnect with you when you are older believe me this stuff is timeless. Us Aussie adore him. Well my generation does. Which is probably your parents generation.
I like the paradoxical nature of the line. On one hand it's expansive, making the ocean like a part of an even bigger ocean yet also it can be interpreted as concentrating the essence of an entire ocean down into one droplet. I'm not sure of this being what he meant obviously, but I think he thinks in very complex and multiplistic ways. It's like the most mysterious poetry.
Just get me off of this ocean Want to move on the true sea There's no above or no below, just you Just you beside me Just take me over that last horizon Where this light's never been Into a roaring black silence no shell Would even attempt to repeat Just get me out of this hotel Check me out of this sleep Been treading water Hearing recorded messages inside this reoccurring dream But my starry-eyed compass keeps a secret No starry-eyed theory can take And a promise she'll keep until the true sea gathers us up In a tidal wave It makes the ocean seem like a drop in the ocean It makes the ocean seem like a drop in the ocean She makes the ocean seem like a drop in the ocean She makes the ocean seem like a drop in the ocean I'll follow you overboard In the collapsing waves I'll find you in the dark Like a stowaway Just leave ourselves unfinished Just leave an empty page And let those sweeping arms just carry us away Carry us away It makes the ocean seem like a drop in the ocean It makes the ocean seem like a drop in the ocean She makes the ocean seem like a drop in the ocean She makes the ocean seem like a drop in the ocean She makes the ocean seem like a drop in the ocean She makes the ocean seem like a drop in the ocean She makes the ocean seem like a drop in the ocean She makes the ocean seem like a drop in the ocean
Have followed you for years, this is by far my favourite song and I have it constantly on repeat. How you can go from Morningless to this in one album is astounding. Please come back to the UK one more time!
Never seen a person play the tambourine with such concentration and seriousness... :P Buying myself a copy of the album and ticket to see you right now!
+Karlie McRitchie better late than never! :) his band Something for Kate been around for a couple decades now too and are amazing - the more paul the better!
any chance to come to Sorrento Bowling Club?? Everyone would be enamored to have you guys there!! Even just to say gday! better if u belted a few out!!

🙂Has PD ever written a song that wasn't a masterpiece..? 🎇
Indie groove, Irish melancholy flanged through Australian laconicism and compelling metaphysical lyrics. Dempsey . . . one and only

There are many Apostles...
Paul called himself the least.
What happened to that 'Sagittarius-81' guy? I'm interested in what happened to him.

Am South American but I do love as the same way that you can love something for Kate and for more long time than you do.
as the bloke that signed S.F.K. i treasure all your words and the people who replied as well,
One of Dempsey's finest songs. And I say that as a rabid fan of him and S4K for many years. Brilliant song
A drop in my ocean
Our Aussie god. 🙏
Himmel, mit solch einer Stimme u. eine beeindruckende Musik noch immer nicht am oberen Horizont angekommen?
This man has so much talent. Deserves way more recognition. 🙂
One of the few songs that can bring a tear to my eye.
That 'ocean/drop in the ocean' hook such a classic Dempsey line, love it
+risk2Dupside I literally can't get that line out of my head. almost worth a tattoo haha

this song is a masterpiece. Love it, a near daily listen now for months
I respect and admire any artist who can play every instrument they use in their song. Fantastic song.
Such a jam
Just get me off of this ocean
Want to move on the true sea
There's no above or no below, just you
Just you beside me
Just take me over that last horizon
Where this light's never been
Into a roaring black silence no shell
Would even attempt to repeat
Just get me out of this hotel
Check me out of this sleep
Been treading water
Hearing recorded messages inside this reoccurring dream
But my starry-eyed compass keeps a secret
No starry-eyed theory can take
And a promise she'll keep until the true sea gathers us up
In a tidal wave
It makes the ocean seem like a drop in the ocean
It makes the ocean seem like a drop in the ocean
She makes the ocean seem like a drop in the ocean
She makes the ocean seem like a drop in the ocean
I'll follow you overboard
In the collapsing waves
I'll find you in the dark
Like a stowaway
Just leave ourselves unfinished
Just leave an empty page
And let those sweeping arms just carry us away
Carry us away
It makes the ocean seem like a drop in the ocean
It makes the ocean seem like a drop in the ocean
She makes the ocean seem like a drop in the ocean
She makes the ocean seem like a drop in the ocean
She makes the ocean seem like a drop in the ocean
She makes the ocean seem like a drop in the ocean
She makes the ocean seem like a drop in the ocean
She makes the ocean seem like a drop in the ocean
Das ist eine wahre Wohltat solch eine Musik wieder zu hören

I hope my Friend Paul Craig still own his emerald coloured jumper
Paul can do no wrong
+Joshua Barnes etcetera
Excellent. Are those all your guitars?
"she's makes the ocean seem like a drop in the ocean"... that lyric is pretty meta.
its like he knew it would be great, right
Australia's Gregory Peck, in more ways than Greg himself
in case youre wondering, the reason paul is looking through a telescope at the sun in daytime is because he's looking at sunspots.
eg.etal making fine rings 1999
I really didn't like something for kate. But I love Dempsey.
Mr Stanley how can you not like sfk but love Paul? Doesn’t make any sense😂
