Hi...I am just Jo Blogs of the street but have been poorly for a few months..I have swelling and lumps come up in my left armpit,upper arm and around left ribs, also my groin area and around both knees. I am going to the breast clinic on Tuesday and this has really helped just silly old me kinda understand, so thank you very much! I hope I get some answers as I feel like I am falling apart.

I don't understand exactly how the lymph goes back in the veins. The nodes are connected to the veins. Is that it ? Thank you
There are small lymphatic vessels that carry lymph from tissues to lymph nodes, and from lymph nodes to other lymph nodes, and then to the subclavian veins near where the internal jugular vein joins it.

Are there any issues or concerns about immunity or breast health afterremoval of 2 anterior lymph nodes in left breast . No sentinel node testing was done as i didnt want the procedure but surgeon opted to remove against my wishes.

The next level of detail on the lymph node system would seem to be concerned with how the metabolic/cellular waste/by-products, heavy metals, etc from the extracellular matrix (ECM?) are taken up in the lymphatic system, as opposed to how the blood is taken back up into the circulatory system. Generally, one talks about veins at some point after the initial takeup of blood; but how specifically it gets to the veins is evidently less known. As for the lymphatic system, there is also the missing step of how, once the lymph is taken up, it gets to the lymph nodes. Eventually, it all gets back to the heart and lungs, otherwise there would be nothing to pump out to nourish the 80 billion cells of the body. For me, the next question would be about the possibility that the cancer cells, in some form, are brought to the area where they can migrate to the breast, as opposed to originating in the breast. Intuitively, my idea is that the cancer cells are a product of problems in the extracellular matrix where all of the toxins and waste products of metabolism accumulate. The stew of the by-products of life may contain the usual suspects of cancer-causation. What the body does not need, and what is thus potentially harmful, is going to be accumulated in the ECM. Since there are no empty spaces in the body, it seems that the priority of the bones and skeletal muscles dictates that the lymph nodes must be fitted into any available areas that are not occupied by other critical functions such as movement and specific processing in the organs. Evolution would seem to have set the priority of space allocatioin in this area. Obviously, the large skeletal muscles, when used regularly and properly, whatever that may entail, are going to be most efficient in pumping everything back to the heart and kidneys etc for processing. When the large skeletal muscles are not busy, the pressures of respiration, temperature differentials, and other metabolic processes are going to be the main system of pumps along with the systolic pressure of the heart. This would suggest that the blood that is heading back to the heart is moving faster than the lymph that is being more slowly returned while being in some way processed. Otherwise, there would be no need for a separate lymph system. The diastolic pressure seems to be the sign of the physical and filtering resistance to getting the lymph and blood back into circulation. Is this a crazy or ridiculous summary such as DesCartes' theory of the circulatory system? I submit that Galen and Vesalius had a lot less to work with; but were able to go quite a distance anyway.
Cancer cells can be identified as a particular cell type. Different cancers have formed from different cell types.

I understand that lymph fluid also collects cells that are too big to pass into the capillaries. Is that correct? I teach lymph fluid as the big trash pick up day on our curb. Don't want to spread wrong info!
Not entire cells, but cell parts after apoptosis
That's the idea. Capillaries allow only small molecules (e.g. water, glucose, dissolved gases) to pass in and out but lymphatic vessels have valves anchored to the surrounding tissue that let fluid and larger structures pass in. Lymph nodes contain lymphocytes, and those larger particles can be checked over by the immune system.
