  • Dust Collection is a crucial part of a busy workshop. With my X-Carve CNC up and running, having a quality dust collector is important to keep your workshop clean and your lungs clear. I set up a 2 stage system to separate the dust into a barrel before going to the dust collector. The separator is an Oneida 6 inch cyclone, and the collector is a Dust Right 1250.

Good to see you back in the shop 😀

If you have a way to compress the sawdust instead of getting rid of it you can make some pretty good firestarting logs.

Or even make some logs/charcoal sort of fuel. And that can be more or less DIY built: our Uni used to teach something around that to be used in impoverish places around the world.

A significant portion of the dust collected at the moment is MDF. Not sure if that’s really something that should be burnt

Great video. I want to also thank you for showing that we all have bad moments. God knows I do, but we regroup and try something different.

I'm glad you're not hurt!! I love the "technical difficulties" of your videos. They show I'm not the only "rookie" 👍👍 I'm glad to see the critters at the end - I've missed them - and the new "cameo" of your little one!

Have you seen an improvement on how long you filter stays cleaner longer? I am thinking of adding a 6" cyclonic dust seperator to my system. I am using a Powermatic 1300 with 6" main lines and 4" drops. My canister filter seems to clog fairly quickly.
    Thanks

I don't know how you got that hose on the top of the cyclone without heating it up. The top of the cyclone measures 6.25" but the inside diameter of the house is only 6". Even the clamp doesn't fit.

With a CNC, you're going to need to empty that heavy barrel a lot because it fills up fast. I'd find a way to get the top on and off more easily.... You will also want a way to know when its filling up so ... Maybe a 2 inch wide by 12 inch long strip of plexiglass running down the side??? The cyclone attached to the top of the barrel will turn out to be your biggest headache unless you separate the barrel from the top another way. I've seen where they hang the cyclone/top of the barrel to the wall, adding a foam gasket to the top, put clips around the top, and make a lift mechanism to lift and lower the barrel.... Then line the barrel with a plastic garbage bag for easy disposal...

I absolutely love what you doing in your shop and a son and your dominos! And what about that new baby?!
    Either ways, I’m glad you’re back‼️

Quick suggestion: get a smooth, gently curved pipe to go from the impeller to the top of the cyclone. More smooth piping the better.

Whenever possible, its good/better to use solid PVC or piping instead of the flexible hoses. Makes air flow much better and faster. Also improves dust flow.
Fyi, many videos out there with ideas for you.
Also, waiting to see how the laundry room went. And also want to see how big the chickens are and how they are doing.
Perhaps an update on how the cat has learned to deal with the baby when it starts to crawl.
    Hoping all is well.

True! If you must use flexible hose, a bit of johnsons wax helps them slip on without much struggle.

Did you finish the laundry room? How are the chickens? Loved seeing your doggos! We need an Otto update (some cuteness factor in your vids) and doesn't Otto need a sibling? 😄

The laundry room is done! Just now finding time to edit the footage to get those videos out

    Hello again Ben
Thank you for another Great Video 👍 Question for you. How do you plan to dispose the waste. My suggestion is to put a heavy duty trash bag in the can now. That way when you're ready, you close the bag and try not to breath any dust. Otherwise, that looks like a great system 👍 Enjoy.

One instant improvement is to have a rigid pipe between the cyclone and the motor.
Your lucky you did not break anything :)

When I implement the workshop wide dust collection, I’ll definitely be making that connection rigid!

They sell repairable plugs that you could have cut the old plug off and used to save some $

The replacement cable is longer than the original. That’s benefited me by being able to plug it into a different outlet and not overload one breaker circuit

Did you ever finish the 2 player pinball machine? I know it was basically done but it’s kinda a letdown not to see it finished.

I was thinking of doing something similar for my xcarve but I worry about reducing the tubing diameter too much. Given the collector you have us high volume instead of high pressure does it still work when the tubing is reduced down to two inches?? I thought you needed a high pressure vacuum for that like a typical shop vac? Nice build!

You need to add clips to the video of you actually using the thing instead of just building it cause it’s a dope piece!! People want to see your stuff IN USE
