I feel like if they did a ps5 remake. They could change a couple things Choose to fight with Elise and save her or chase after Germain and Elise dies making all the future interactions be her as a ghost like she was in the dlc 2. Add cutscenes of Bellic talking working with Arno - clone wars style training. So their relationship seems deeper. Get actor who played Arno to add some dialogue to have with himself to show more growth or how he wrestles with his past.
When playing Odyssey I had to lower the difficulty to the easiest just because enemies took ages to kill and it made bossfights less about challenge and more about being patient enough to chip away at an enormous health bar slowly over the course of 30 minutes.
You’re just using the wrong build man! 😂😂😂 I hate that fucking answer so much!!! I’m sorry I leveled up wrong!?! What the fuck odyssey’s combat is offensively bad!!!!
@@mattbettcher7439 It’s unfortunate too cause I genuinely like most of the combat animations and finishing moves, but they can never be fun when it takes 30 minutes to get to them
Mate you realize a build means the right armor and swords and the combats more challenging than unity were you just pressed A button LOL try and get good you fucking cheezit
Hell yes. I knew what your Number 1 pick would be immediately, and of course. Brotherhood Assassins are capable fighters, and always, always Lethal, no matter the situation they're in.
I think it was you who said Assassins should be "glass cannons" and that always stuck with me. Hope you'll at least forgive me for my Unity placement 😂
It's the myth the man the legend himself Leo K. If anyone has trouble with Assassins Creed games' controls. Please watch this guy he has tons of guides and they're all very helpful.
As Walshie says, it had the best combat "in concept", but the execution fell flat on it´s face. Basically, it´s a system built around timing and precision, in a game with horrendous input lag and inconsistent mechanics. If the Unity system was as consistent as the AC1-Rev system was, it would easily be the best.
i am really glad to see AC1 so high in this least. i played AC1 recently and absolutely shocked at how good the combat was and how much depth it had despite its simplified looking combat. enemies are deadly and can quickly k^ll you if u are not paying attention but every death is fair AC fanbase really really doesnt appreciate the combat system of AC1 enough. it hits the perfect balance of pseudo realism and visceral. u had to deal with every different type of enemy in a different tactic AC unity is really satisfying, but the goofy wobbly impact animations, janky af kill animations and people surviving half a dozen lethal stabs kinda feels video gameish and eventually gonna get to you, but might get tedious a lil cuz arno barely lands decisive blows on enemies despite making clear openings.
I would like to point out that in Origins when fighting with a cursed weapon, combats feel both very tense and are VERY short : it's always kill or be killed (or drop a smoke and run because too many enemies). And I genuinely enjoyed that! If only they had made the base combat system like that instead of making it restricted to a few weapons, I am fairly certain that no players would have complained about it feeling like a numbers-fest.
@@memecliparchives2254 which all feel very different! I certainly do not play the same with a Sarisa, a Falcata, and a No Border (to name a few cursed weapons I enjoy)!
I agree, fighting with the cursed weapons was way more intense and is pretty satisfying to kill people knowing that a few hits can kill you. It reminds me a bit about ghost of Tsushima’s lethal mode: The bigger risk the bigger the reward.
@@nonec384 mostly if you did not activate level scaling/if you faced bosses whose stats don't scale despite level scaling. Against the pharaohs of Curse of the Pharaohs, they were not especially broken: it took several overpowers with the Sahalin axe (most powerful cursed weapon) to kill them, and they could kill you in 2-3 hits.
I wish they made Eivor as the Hidden ones in the start of the game instead of them making the dlc to find out that Eivor will become the Hidden one in dlc only.
@@calebroberts9935 it’s an assassins creed game first of all it’s in the title, you work closely with the assassins the entire time and we learn is much about the isu in this game
The only problem I found with unity's combat is that even after the patches (for me) using a one handed sword was the way to go because if I used any other weapon the animations would glitch out and i couldn't tell what was happening. Plus if you learn the just swapping between enemies and just hitting them once to interrupt their animations you can cheese your way through the whole game like that.
To be honest, that is a fairly realistic way to go about it. If you are fighting 3 or more people, the last thing you want to do is to just tunnel vision against one of them, and give free shots to your other enemies.
AC1 at #2? I'll take it! The Brotherhood/Rev system is definitely a close second for me, as they're the most enjoyable beyond AC1's. All around, great list!
Best possible combat I feel Frankensteins many of these combat elements, adding a few. -Adrenaline to limit how often and how many times you can use your best abilities, earned by feats of skill (headshots/parries/dodges) more than just spamming attacks -Taunting for if you prefer counters over spamming -Side steps and backsteps (Ezio trilogy) over huge dodges and rolls, this isn't Dark Souls - Different weapons serve different purposes- don't let my sword be as useful against heavy armor as a spear, arrow, or axe -Weapon sets- Origin and Odyssey let us switch between types of weapons so we didnt have to menu to change style - Armor that let you mix and match without penalty for not using a whole set (and let us change the cosmetics) -Armor that resists damage types. Let heavy armor slow you down and harder to climb (if at all) but light attacks from light weapons barely affect you. But a dane axe, spear, bow/crossbow, make you concerned. Let MY light attacks with light weapons ping off a heavily armored enemy and i have to change my gear or how i attack them. - All weapons are the same level and don't need upgrades, the weapons don't get better, YOU get better - Enemies of low "level" have very basic attacks, higher "level" get access to more complex attacks you have to better time, predict, and escape. Let threat be dictated by how hard it is to beat them, not damage sponging. -Bows need to be lethal. Headshot kills without helmets. Special shots from adrenaline is ok. -Can we get some real horse combat? You telling me Ezio, Kassandra, and Bayek can swing a sword from a horse but Eivor can't? -Counters only kill weak unarmored enemies. Armor, higher 'level', and enemy types can reduce or negate that damage, but you can't instakill those stronger enemies with a different 1-3 button combo. -Kill chains have to start on weak enemies, chain 4 an armored enemy, chain 5 a 'captain' type enemy. Reward choosing your targets during kill streaks.
so when do u start working at ubisoft so u can tell them "Hey let's look at all our games see what was good then take that and put it in to our new game as well as doing some work to even out a good difficulty and adding new ideas" cuz i want a game like this
@@urbanhellsing831 it is not like Ubi devs are braindead, AC2 sold and was a massive hit and put the franchise as an icon of gaming industry and it probably had the sh^ttiest combat out of all old school AC games. if they make the combat this much difficult aka add this much depth to the combat ppl are gonna whine and complain and wont buy, AC1 combat has the best flow tons of astounding depth. and AC1 with best "Flow" to its combat was called "Janky combat" ffs
Ngl if they reduced ezio’s health brotherhood’s combat wld be close to perfection. Also I played unity for the first time since 2014 and combat was acc not too bad. Also I’m genuinely shocked coz Walshie kinda praised odyssey by not putting it last
My ranking of the combat: 1. ACB/Rev - Kill streaks are fun and surprisingly cathartic. (Though it made me feel more like Discount Batman rather than an Assassin) 2. AC 1 - Nailed the dichotomy of stealth and combat perfectly and makes you feel most like an assassin. 3. AC Valhalla - It's easily the best of the RPG trilogy and I quite liked the no. of options you have wrt weapons and the stamina kept your dodges in control. Stuns are also very satisfying to pull off. 4. AC 2 - While it does improve on AC 1 quite a lot, I found the AI too damn stagnant to do anything, you can taunt sure but you lack the pressure from AC 1. 5. AC Origins - A shift in paradigm for the series. It didn't make me feel like an assassin but I'd be lying if I said I didn't enjoy it. Also it felt fucking grounded out of the RPG games but Valhalla was just way more fun to use. 6. AC Unity - It was a good system in concept but Jesus the gunmen and the input lag ruins it for me. Input lag works for parkour because it is exploitable but in combat, you get fucked harder than Kiryu with the Obatarian. 7. AC 3 - While I do appreciate the challenge, the lack of healthbars and the combat being tied to animations was a bit silly though they looked nice and it got something outta me. 8. AC 4/Rogue - Shit combat, counter spammy, mashy as hell, looks like shit, moving on. 9. AC Odyssey - Spongy mess but at least it is a bit fluid 10. AC Syndicate - It is just a few sound effects short of a loony toons cartoon.
My favorite for pretty much anything except graphics is origins. Origins has an amazing loot system, which makes you earn those legendaries. The story is memorable and bayek actually feels like a person
My personal pick from worst to best: Assassin's Creed 2: This stealth system is a joke due to its awful detection system and the useless poison blade and throwing knives not working. It literally is almost impossible to stealth without Mercanaries, Thieves and Courtesans. Assassin's Creed 3: Has the same issues as AC2 but is slighty better due to the Assassin guild system and trap mines. Assassin's Creed Origins & Odyssey: WHY DID THEY REMOVE THE INSTA KILLS!!?? Assassin's Creed Valhalla: definitely a big upgrade from Origins and Odyssey due to it bringing back insta kill hidden blade kills. But guards detect you way too easily. Assassin's Creed Black Flag & Rogue: these two games probably has the easiest stealth system in any AC game. Being in high profile doesn't matter anymore because you can run and guards can't hear you and also thanks to the blowpipe/Rifle you can distract and put guards to sleep which makes stealthing much easier. The problem is that it's a bit too easy for my liking. Assassin's Creed Brotherhood & Revelations: Much, much MUCH better than AC2, the detection system has been highly improved and the poison blade has been replaced with the poison darts which is much more useful. And throwing knives finally works because Ezio can charge throw with knives taking more guards at once without alerting any guards. Assassin's Creed Unity & Syndicate: This stealth system would actually be the best if it actually functioned every time. However due to it not working all the time guards will see you through walls giving the player some really awful gamer rage, which is enough for me not to put it at the top. Assassin's Creed: This by far is my favorite one because it has the best social stealth system in the franchise. Mastering AC1's stealth system is so satisfying and it's fun to try to blend in with the crowd because that's what made Assassin's Creed's stealth system unique. It wasn't about hiding it was about blending in with the crowd.
I think valhalla would be so good if it wasn't an assassins creed game or if it was more like other asasins creed games. As it is people don't like it because it is too far from the other games but realistically it is fun and makes you feel like a bad ass just not like an assassin
Ac1 and ac2 are the only two combats I really enjoyed in all of Ac. Unity had potential but as it is right now it dosen't feel better than ac1 and ac2 for me, it only looks better and that's it, it feels sluggish, unresponsive, and janky, also the variety of weapons' stats are bad, since the swords are the superior one out of all of em. Stun bombs are also annoying since it's radius is too big and you can't roll away but instead you have to run away so you can avoid it. Oh and also how can I forget, the enemy can shoot at you if you have crowds all over you, it's so annoying for me trying to escape, like at least make the guards unable shoot civilians because it's against there duty, while the thugs can shoot civilians but the bullet would stop it from going through civilians to make it not hit you.
1. Black Flag, it needs more animation and should be less automatic, but its still the most satisfying 2. Valhalla, the axes hammers and longswords are so satisfying to use 3. Ezio Trilogy and AC1, they have the most moves, and its very satisfying to get a counterkill
The best thing about ac1 is that most hits happens on the enemies defence their swords. You feel like you weaken their defence to allow for a hit on their body and the enemy can only take one or a few of those hits. This ads so much to the feeling of realism and consequence without sacrificing swiftness or difficulty and I do not understand why they didn't keep this. My ideal system would be based on the ac1 system but with more weapon variety and enemy variety. Enemy AI would also be more aggressive and idealy able to combine their efforts so bigger groups would be an exponentially bigger threat, and in this way encourage stealth. Instead of being levelbased the difficulty should be based on the players skill. Combos, dodges, parrys and counters should require precise timing and the better you are at timing the bigger window you're allowed to deal the most damage afterwards. Also the more difficult the enemy the more precise timing would be required making "boss" enemies actually more challenging and not just more time consuming. And if you mess up the timing of say a dodge you're punished with the next attack being more difficult to deal with so that the enemy just like you is able to combo through you defense and allow for a hit. This would also allow for realistic gear stats. Heavier armor gives you more protection so you can take more damage but your defense is weakened because the armor slows you making the timing of dodges, counters and so harder
this video is 99% nostalgia for the games 1% actual critique of the combat systems. Odyssey, origins and Valhalla all had better combat systems than their predecessors. The oldest ac games (ac1, 2, B and revelations) all had terrible, clunky combat that wasn't rewarding in the slightest. It felt more like you were just waiting for the enemy to attack you to counter and half of the time the counters didn't even start. Ac rouge and 4 had very easy combat that wasn't rewarding in the slightest, but at least it wasn't as clunky as the original 4 games. AC3 had pretty good combat, still suffered from being unrewarding but it was smooth and had a lot more emphasis on actual skill. AC syndicate had comical combat that killed just felt out of place (as did the entire game), Unity was a more refined version of the combat system from syndicate and it felt nice to fight enemies in that game. AC odyssey, origins and Valhalla are obviously the most different but also the most fun, they're smooth, there's a lot of variety in how you can fight enemies. The main downside is that the enemies in odyssey are just incredibly tankey and take ages to kill, although I think this is because they wanted you to use abilities more and wanted you to build up a lot of adrenaline. Valhalla just had bland abilities that weren't too noteworthy, although the variety in weapon choice and effects was nice. origins was the perfect AC combat for me, you could have 2 different bows active at once that you could swap between and the same with weapons. The only real downside was that it wasn't possible to remove the shield and replace it with a weapon of some sort. If you read this far, I started off mad that he put the 3 most recent ones at the bottom, then realised I had written a lot and deleting it would be stupid, so I finished writing it. Thanks for reading through my rant though if you did
I absolutely agree with you. Previous games were too dumb when it comes to combat system. I've played the whole franchise except Revelations and Origins (tried Origins for a few hours but then I thought that deserts are not for me.). Odyssey is the best for me. If you make a proper build, you can assassinate by one strike. And since the enemies detect you more easily, it makes odyssey way more "assassin" than the previous games. (As I said I played Origins for a few hours so I cannot say the difference). I had hoped that Valhalla would go like that but because of shitty nostalgists they changed back to an easier combat. But probably that might not be the only reason. I enjoyed Valhalla though, at least I had a great journey in medieval England as a Viking. Brotherhood was the first ac I played (I had read the novel of AC2 before that but because of some problems with AC2, I had to try Brotherhood first.). I miss it sometimes thanks to Jesper Kyd (ua-cam.com/video/HKsNepQ2DwE/v-deo.html) (ua-cam.com/video/bbxtiTtvOW0/v-deo.html) and my interest for the Renaissance Italy (and for the Borgia family), but then I remember how the combat system sucks (as well as controlling. I say Ezio to go right but then he jumps to the exact opposite side, sigh...) and some missions are just shitty designed (ones like "tail that guy", or optional objects like "don't take damage", "don't let them detect you", "only walk on rooftops" etc.) Some people might say "but it was just perfect for its time." no it was not. I can understand the control problem when parkouring, but the other things are just some shitty mistakes. There were games with much better gameplays than Ac's those times.
Origins is my personal favorite. With the lack of abilities and the weightiness of each hit (both in damage number and visual effect) make it very immersive, you feel like there's a real danger of getting hit. But you don't feel hopeless because Bayek has a lot of defensive options like the shield and dodging and no stamina. You have to pay attention to the enemies animations and positions to come out on top, just like how things go through your brain in irl fights. Hitbox system can be great for AC game, Ubisoft just has to balance out the speed, animations, and challenges of combat encounters. Valhalla made a lot of good changes, and I hope that they'd stick with the principles used in designing it.
Origins and valhalla my favorites they have the most fun for me i like that a bunch of guards actually mean something plus its not boring i havent played every ac but rogue black flag unity and 2(games i played) I found the combat to be boring like i dont remember any moments where i was like fuck yeah lets go Unity was extremely slow for me felt clunky and so boring 4 so just .....idk what but not fun Same with rogue 2 for me was forgetable then again my disc fucked up half way thru so i couldnt finish back then so idk ill buy ezio collection n try one day but i cant remember much fun The reason i like the new combat system especially vahalla the most is that when i do get into combat its not shut my brain off mash square or mash break guard/ parry Origins actively made me take in alot location amount of enemies spacing and weapon type of me and opponents i remember fighting phylakes and it was damage spongey yes which is bad but i do remember being on edge and dying cause of my fuck ups this why i say tho valhalla is the best or will be for me (havent played only saw) Its not damage spongey but makes me think like origins But aye this my opinion ur entitled to yours and me to mine
A mix between valhalla and unity would be great. The look from unity and the real combat without these fantasy elements but with the freedom from valhalla
It is really cool that people are saying years later how good Unity was, it got me feeling like how we went back to the Star Wars prequels and they became good later in their life.
Great video. I agree on most of your picks but I was finally able to find someone who could put my thoughts about Unity's combat into words, it was because of the input lag that makes it lower on the scale for me.
Nord VPN hitting Walshie up to advertise for them you love too see it. Smashing the scene and letting that hard work pay off, looking forward to more great content to come within the next 12 months and wishing you all the best for 2021.
An AC games combat should be simple but with a certain complexity to it. You should use different buttons to use different strikes and different weapons like heavy should add weight . It should be slightly fast like AC 3 and there should be ‘intrinsic movement’ where you can hit one person and move freely tho hit another.
so basically AC1's combat. simplified looking combat with tons of depth and perfect balance of lethal pseudo-realism where button mashing never works. AC1 has the best "flow state" to its combat in all AC games but it was considered "janky combat" ffs by the fanbase so that aint ever gonna happen. also faster = ez fun , but weighty and steady combat can be better if done right.
How I would rank the combat of the AC games I played from best to worst: 1. *Valhalla* - I personally love all the abilities, weapon variety, archetype variety, and the stun attacks. The combat is not too slow but is still challenging and very satisfying 2. *Odyssey* - Yeah I know a lot will disagree, but personally I have a couple loadouts, 1 being a warrior loadout, so I can kill enemies pretty quickly. I love all the abilities, weapons, and the challenge. 3. *Origins* - It's pretty similar to Odyssey, but with less abilities, so in my opinion it's slightly worse. Still, I do love the weight of Bayek's fighting, and it is still challenging and overall really good. 4. *Unity* - Definitely the best of the classic AC combat mechanics. It's challenging, you have many moves, and it looks amazing and realistic. Still, overall I am more a fan of the RPG combat mechanics of the newer games. 5. *Black Flag* - It looks really cool, and you have many moves, but it's way too easy. You can just press square constantly to kill an entire army. But you can make the combat cool and interesting with _intrinsic motivation_ 6. *Syndicate* - Definitely my least favorite. The weapon options were so boring, it lacked move variety, and it doesn't even look cool. I have also played AC II and AC III, but I didn't play them much, and it was a while ago, so I don't know how I'd rank them exactly, but probably close to Black Flag. If you read this far, here's a cookie 🍪
i will say i i prefer the old old ways of 2- revelations.. but i definitely get your few because the new company systems are fun with the abilities you can have now and it’s not so easy but i feel like the older game had the perfect mix of having a lot in your move set while not being too hard or too easy, but all in all i agree odyssey and valhalla have very fun combat i just hated the same takedown over and over tbh :/
The Brotherhood/Revelations system takes the win for me. I live inside my head most of my time and so I thrive in situations where I’m forced to stop and strategise based upon my arsenal for the current fight, my martial toolkit, the enemies’ positioning, numbers and archetypes and a billion other variables. Unlike in the Colonial series where you push a single button and all the things happen, except the double counters because they look awesome.
I really enjoy your content, and these top 5 are so great. I also like videos where you give your opinion on Valhalla and other stuff. Keep up the good work!
I like the Brotherhood system the most too. It's flashy, fast and brutal. I would like to see maybe AC to perfect it like Batman Arkham or Shadow of war did. AC to me never was a game where I would have to "sweat and cry" like Dark Souls. It always was more for the story and steath to me.
Honestly assassins creed origins is still my favorite combat system. The heavy feeling and hit box and how the shield works makes it my favorite. With the shield parry Bakey can stand in front of enemies and just fight, in odyssey and valhalla I just mostly dodged when in tough fights. The rest of the combat systems feel mostly counter and animation based, not my cup of tea.
the combat was also diferent back diferent training diferente levels of armor and weapons tech , the swords were thicker and stubier , while the more advanced and better metal has i be longer and tiner
imo, although the actual odessy combat is dogshit, the worst part for me is that it is so inaccurate for the time period and it looks so out of place and terrible.
I have to say I enjoyed AC Unity combat system a lot. And what actually made it enjoyable for me was how heavy the weapons felt. Animations were made in a way to convey this feeling of weight that is absent in all the other games.
My favourite one is definitely AC Origins. I just think it is way more diversed than any other. And it really takes skill to survive larger groups of people or to beat a boss. (btw, if you think its not so hard, turn up the difficulty)
The RPG combat was 100% the most satisfying (Origins), When I was playing Odyssey I really liked the style and the challenge. The fight felt big and long, not drawn out but it felt rewarding after killing the entire spartan fleet. And this list really depends the difficulty your playing on. AC Brotherhood and revelations is always a close second. The only AC games I've yet to complete is Unity, Syndicate, Valhalla and rogue and the original. ( my pc is too weak to handle Valhalla and the rest but I'm upgrading soon)
For me it’s so annoying you shouldn’t have to make a build if you hit the enemy with a blade they should die like a person really would not being a fucking sponge yk
@@calebroberts9935 yeah true, but The combat before it had 0 skill (from 3 to rogue), the counter window was either as long as the ac movie or was shorter than me blinking and you could kill someone with a single button press (ac4 is one my favorite ac games). Ac brother to revelations was so satisfying but there was no real difficulty. Ac 2 was very good with archetypes and the weaknesses. I'm going to replay origins and odyssey before I touch valhalla. Syndicate was just me spamming tbh.
Odyssey combat was really fun, and they are right. Stacking your warrior tree doesn't make you a better fighter. Creating a good build is the trick. You need gear with aligning perks. If you understand that the combat is incredibly fun. And there isn't one magical build..... Valhalla is really dumbed down considering Odyssey. Odyssey is high risk reward system. You can be a glass canon or a tank if you want.
I got odyssey recently (have only played the AC2 games and odyssey) and I personally have not found the enemies too spongy but I can see it at times but cheers good video
I don't care what any one says. Ac 3 is the most satisfying combat. Theres nothing like leveling 50 red coats just because he bumped me. Very fun and very flashy. The kill cams were just a blast every time
It could be fun if Ubisoft began to use a combat system akin to ghost of Tsushima’s lethal mode, basically high damage low health which means more stealth. It would also be nice if they dropped all those supernatural abilities.
I think a more forgiving Sekiro Shadow's Die Twice combat system would work extremely well in Assassins Creed whilst still remaining somewhat difficult and rewarding like Sekiro's combst, similar to what respawn did with Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order but with a little bit of an AC twist (I say more forgiving as Assassins Creed is not a From Software game, and shouldn't try to attempt to be one)
i found myself feeling almost lazy during syndicate’s combat. it felt so easy and effortless - which it shouldn’t. i should feel excited, my leg should be bouncing as i’m desperately trying to defeat this major boss. it shouldn’t be a fight over within five minutes.
My favourite combat was in Unity. If it had been more polished it wouldve been even better. Maybe in the next game theu could use that combat system but improve Parts of it
The worse thing is that canonically the only ability that Kassandra's spear actually has is the ability to predict enemy attacks. That's it. Any other ability shouldn't exist.
Very good video. Very interesting. My favorite combat system is origin's because it is really slow paced and need you to do a lot of conter at the right timing (or at least that's how I played it). A totally different topic but do you think that we'll get a new engine on the next gen game because I fear that they will just use the current engine and improve it. I don't really like the current engine (lots of clipping and the details are loading at 1 meter from your character which is really annoying) and I fear they'll just use it again to spend less money.
@@the_seer_0421 I mean as a combat system you can't just rush in and kill everyone. I played it with a lot of parry and well-timed block. That's why I consider it slow paced. But sure if you compare it to unity it's not slow paced (unity combat system was very slow and sluggish).
I like syndicate and origins odyssey vahalla combat than again Ac 1 was at least has the best combat machneics so so far. Do hope that the future Ac game has Ac 1 combat or the other one like Ac3 and Ac4 Ac rouge.
If Ubisoft ever decides to remake AC 1, the most interesting aspect would be the combat itself. I can see them iterating on it with the Souls influence in mind, something akin to Jedi: Fallen Order for example.
I actually love Valhallas combat for the options and enemy variety. Yeah it does look janky and the animations are mediocre... But the options? Throwing weapons from the ground Catching and returning projectiles Throwing axes Ground and pound Charging enemys into walls Rope Dart (either direct hit or throwing enemies into each other) Parrying to open enemies up. Dodging into unblockables to roll over the enemy and hit them from behind. Shooting weakspots with the bow. Calling a dog for assistance. Sleep, Poison, Fire and explosive arrows Pretending to be dead for a surprise assassination mid combat. Once I tried to ram a huge goliath with the ability and got a minigame where Eivor and the Goliath had a battle of strength and I had to mash the shoulder buttoms to win and get an opening for a finisher. 100+ hours in and I still saw something new. And the finishers where Eivor kills enemies with their own weapons... So badass.
I really don't understand your ranking of AC1-Revelations. It's really only driven by intrinsic motivation and totally lacks any external one on account of broken balancing. In an ideally balanced game the overall effectiveness (taking into acount cost and situal variation) is exactly average, there are no outliers. Realistically that state can't be reached but approximated. The problem with those games is that the counter is so extremely powerful that it makes everything else abysmal. There's no reason beyond personal agenda to do anything but standing in the middle and counter killing the entire group one by one. That one matter really ruins an otherwise decent system, although the combo kill introduces similar issues.
I've always had a similar view on the brotherhood combat system is that if you were limited to a small hp bar and enemies had more ways to fight back like stuns and having a high learning curve it would be the best combat system because new players likely would run from large groups or risk dying and experienced players can show off mastery of the combat system.
Valhalla and unity basically have the same combat function (without the abilities). Valhalla did better with dodges and unity with parrys. Basically if unitys combat wasnt so broken and had a sidestep dodge you can use to get behind the enemy would be great. Little more freedom and positioning you have in the new games and it would be absolutely amazing
I feel like if ubisoft hadn't rushed out unity it could have a so much better it really could have been an amazing experience I still really enjoy the game but I feel like if ubisoft had let the programmers have another 6-8 months to fix the bugs and I think the story could have been better but honesty i think the game was great after it was patched
Absolutely love your videos mate. Playing Valhalla and it feels like such a good step in the right direction in terms of returning the series to its former glory. Male Eivor and the vibe of Norway and England is a million times better than Odyssey’s characters and setting (one of the best in the series in fact- Valhalla not Odyssey) and your videos are so on point. AC: Unity is honesty one of my favorite AC games. If the story had been more memorable, it would possibly be my favorite.
I'd agree on this one. Without a compelling story or a character, Unity is just the gaming epitome of all style no substance.
I feel like if they did a ps5 remake. They could change a couple things

Unity's combat isn't underrated. It could've been great but the gunners are broken and there's no way to dodge bullets outside of combat.

AC: unity easily had the best combat, it could’ve been perfected in the later games but they just scrapped it sadly.
As Walshie says, it had the best combat "in concept", but the execution fell flat on it´s face. Basically, it´s a system built around timing and precision, in a game with horrendous input lag and inconsistent mechanics. If the Unity system was as consistent as the AC1-Rev system was, it would easily be the best.
i am really glad to see AC1 so high in this least. i played AC1 recently and absolutely shocked at how good the combat was and how much depth it had despite its simplified looking combat. enemies are deadly and can quickly k^ll you if u are not paying attention but every death is fair
AC fanbase really really doesnt appreciate the combat system of AC1 enough. it hits the perfect balance of pseudo realism and visceral. u had to deal with every different type of enemy in a different tactic
AC unity is really satisfying, but the goofy wobbly impact animations, janky af kill animations and people surviving half a dozen lethal stabs kinda feels video gameish and eventually gonna get to you, but might get tedious a lil cuz arno barely lands decisive blows on enemies despite making clear openings.
The duality between Brotherhood and Unity combat is interesting. They both are very different systems and yet both of them fit this series well.
The combat design in Brotherhood, AC3, and Unity are by far my favorite in the Assassin's Creed franchise.

Not to mention, Origins had the best melee weapon variety.
It reminds me a bit about ghost of Tsushima’s lethal mode: The bigger risk the bigger the reward.
they are realy broken realy at least for single bosses

-Adrenaline to limit how often and how many times you can use your best abilities, earned by feats of skill (headshots/parries/dodges) more than just spamming attacks
-Taunting for if you prefer counters over spamming
-Side steps and backsteps (Ezio trilogy) over huge dodges and rolls, this isn't Dark Souls
- Different weapons serve different purposes- don't let my sword be as useful against heavy armor as a spear, arrow, or axe
-Weapon sets- Origin and Odyssey let us switch between types of weapons so we didnt have to menu to change style
- Armor that let you mix and match without penalty for not using a whole set (and let us change the cosmetics)
-Armor that resists damage types.
- All weapons are the same level and don't need upgrades, the weapons don't get better, YOU get better
- Enemies of low "level" have very basic attacks, higher "level" get access to more complex attacks you have to better time, predict, and escape.
Thanks

it is not like Ubi devs are braindead, AC2 sold and was a massive hit and put the franchise as an icon of gaming industry and it probably had the sh^ttiest combat out of all old school AC games.
if they make the combat this much difficult aka add this much depth to the combat ppl are gonna whine and complain and wont buy,
AC1 combat has the best flow tons of astounding depth. and AC1 with best "Flow" to its combat was called "Janky combat" ffs
Ngl if they reduced ezio’s health brotherhood’s combat wld be close to perfection. Also I played unity for the first time since 2014 and combat was acc not too bad.
Also I’m genuinely shocked coz Walshie kinda praised odyssey by not putting it last
AC1’s counter grabs 🔥
My ranking of the combat:
1. ACB/Rev - Kill streaks are fun and surprisingly cathartic. (Though it made me feel more like Discount Batman rather than an Assassin)
9. AC Odyssey - Spongy mess but at least it is a bit fluid
10. AC Syndicate - It is just a few sound effects short of a loony toons cartoon.
My favorite for pretty much anything except graphics is origins. Origins has an amazing loot system, which makes you earn those legendaries. The story is memorable and bayek actually feels like a person
Unity just felt like the peak of AC
Finally, someone who appreciates AC1 combat for what it is
It's really really good
The only thing i dont like about the older oves is that the enemies you are not focused on wont attack you just stand there and wait for their turn.
Can u do a stealth in AC games ranking please?
Yes please!!! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
My personal pick from worst to best:
Assassin's Creed 2: This stealth system is a joke due to its awful detection system and the useless poison blade and throwing knives not working.
Thanks dip.... ummm, yeah thx for the ranking!😃
I think valhalla would be so good if it wasn't an assassins creed game or if it was more like other asasins creed games. As it is people don't like it because it is too far from the other games but realistically it is fun and makes you feel like a bad ass just not like an assassin
Have got to say that Walshie has the best thumbnails that ive ever seen. Keep it up lad.
1. Black Flag, it needs more animation and should be less automatic, but its still the most satisfying
2. Valhalla, the axes hammers and longswords are so satisfying to use
3. Ezio Trilogy and AC1, they have the most moves, and its very satisfying to get a counterkill
Maaaan tht intro is sick!
Ac unity has my favorite and Valhalla/origins/odyssey is the bane of my existence
Thanks for reading through my rant though if you did
Nah
Origins and valhalla my favorites they have the most fun for me i like that a bunch of guards actually mean something plus its not boring i havent played every ac but rogue black flag unity and 2(games i played)
I found the combat to be boring like i dont remember any moments where i was like fuck yeah lets go
Unity was extremely slow for me felt clunky and so boring
4 so just .....idk what but not fun
Same with rogue
2 for me was forgetable then again my disc fucked up half way thru so i couldnt finish back then so idk ill buy ezio collection n try one day but i cant remember much fun
The reason i like the new combat system especially vahalla the most is that when i do get into combat its not shut my brain off mash square or mash break guard/ parry
Origins actively made me take in alot location amount of enemies spacing and weapon type of me and opponents i remember fighting phylakes and it was damage spongey yes which is bad but i do remember being on edge and dying cause of my fuck ups this why i say tho valhalla is the best or will be for me (havent played only saw)
Its not damage spongey but makes me think like origins
But aye this my opinion ur entitled to yours and me to mine
Cant get over how good that intro is
A mix between valhalla and unity would be great. The look from unity and the real combat without these fantasy elements but with the freedom from valhalla
Just now realized a few of Ezio’s knife kill animations are the same as a few of Connors tomahawk kill animations
It is really cool that people are saying years later how good Unity was, it got me feeling like how we went back to the Star Wars prequels and they became good later in their life.

Best combat ranking vid I've come across. I completely agree, but I can't remember Brotherhood and Revelations but I trust you.
Great video. I agree on most of your picks but I was finally able to find someone who could put my thoughts about Unity's combat into words, it was because of the input lag that makes it lower on the scale for me.

Origins and Valhalla have great combat systems. They're brutal and fast and I love them.
How I would rank the combat of the AC games I played from best to worst:
1. *Valhalla* - I personally love all the abilities, weapon variety, archetype variety, and the stun attacks. The combat is not too slow but is still challenging and very satisfying
But you can make the combat cool and interesting with _intrinsic motivation_
What's the armor set in valhalla at 7:10?
The Brotherhood/Revelations system takes the win for me. I live inside my head most of my time and so I thrive in situations where I’m forced to stop and strategise based upon my arsenal for the current fight, my martial toolkit, the enemies’ positioning, numbers and archetypes and a billion other variables. Unlike in the Colonial series where you push a single button and all the things happen, except the double counters because they look awesome.
I really enjoy your content, and these top 5 are so great. I also like videos where you give your opinion on Valhalla and other stuff. Keep up the good work!
The difference between how long it takes to kill someone in Odyssey and brotherhood/revalations is acc funny 😂😂😂
Want that one man army combat back, yeah still a machine in valhalla but the older counter attack combat is so satisfying imo
5:10 since whend do "assassins" use Aard?
5:55 I would say AC1 gives that feeling as well
I like the Brotherhood system the most too. It's flashy, fast and brutal. I would like to see maybe AC to perfect it like Batman Arkham or Shadow of war did. AC to me never was a game where I would have to "sweat and cry" like Dark Souls. It always was more for the story and steath to me.
are you going to continue to upload your playthough of valhalla?
Tell that to valhalla
@@the_seer_0421 I haven't played Valhalla yet although I assume its the same.
@@christos49 yeah, more or less
I have to say I enjoyed AC Unity combat system a lot. And what actually made it enjoyable for me was how heavy the weapons felt. Animations were made in a way to convey this feeling of weight that is absent in all the other games.
My favourite one is definitely AC Origins. I just think it is way more diversed than any other. And it really takes skill to survive larger groups of people or to beat a boss. (btw, if you think its not so hard, turn up the difficulty)
Thank you for teaching me how to argue
Make a list of the coolest kill animation in ALL AC's! Including Multiplayer, lol
I got odyssey recently (have only played the AC2 games and odyssey) and I personally have not found the enemies too spongy but I can see it at times but cheers good video
My favorit is brother hood and assasins creed 3
I don't care what any one says. Ac 3 is the most satisfying combat. Theres nothing like leveling 50 red coats just because he bumped me. Very fun and very flashy. The kill cams were just a blast every time
I really don’t get how anyone can stand the ac2 combat system
Neither tbh
Whats the name of the song in the background of Odyssey
How do u unlock the pieces of eden?
I just finished watching the video, I must say you don't miss walshie this ranking was spot on good job 👏👏
It could be fun if Ubisoft began to use a combat system akin to ghost of Tsushima’s lethal mode, basically high damage low health which means more stealth. It would also be nice if they dropped all those supernatural abilities.
“Arkham combat if you played the Riddler” my gut split open😂😂😂😂
Whats your loadout in AC valhalla
My favourite combat was in Unity. If it had been more polished it wouldve been even better. Maybe in the next game theu could use that combat system but improve Parts of it
The worse thing is that canonically the only ability that Kassandra's spear actually has is the ability to predict enemy attacks. That's it. Any other ability shouldn't exist.
u should make a video ab who the most badass assassin is like if they all had to fight to the death who would win
Slow paced?? Have you played any other ac games?
@@the_seer_0421 I mean as a combat system you can't just rush in and kill everyone. I played it with a lot of parry and well-timed block. That's why I consider it slow paced. But sure if you compare it to unity it's not slow paced (unity combat system was very slow and sluggish).
@@mathiascerf1092 okay I see what you mean
I like syndicate and origins odyssey vahalla combat than again Ac 1 was at least has the best combat machneics so so far. Do hope that the future Ac game has Ac 1 combat or the other one like Ac3 and Ac4 Ac rouge.
If Ubisoft ever decides to remake AC 1, the most interesting aspect would be the combat itself. I can see them iterating on it with the Souls influence in mind, something akin to Jedi: Fallen Order for example.
Introducing Ac1 remake with gender options, level up system, stamina bars, pay each time to revive , bugs and glitches like never before.
@@Legion849 oh boy, then I'd just rather stick to the OG version😂
I actually love Valhallas combat for the options and enemy variety. Yeah it does look janky and the animations are mediocre... But the options?
Throwing weapons from the ground
Catching and returning projectiles
Throwing axes
Ground and pound
Charging enemys into walls
Rope Dart (either direct hit or throwing enemies into each other)
Parrying to open enemies up.
Dodging into unblockables to roll over the enemy and hit them from behind.
Shooting weakspots with the bow.
Calling a dog for assistance.
Sleep, Poison, Fire and explosive arrows
Pretending to be dead for a surprise assassination mid combat.
Am I the only one who genuinely loves origins combat 😅
Yeah I hate the new system it shouldn’t be an rpg
I've always had a similar view on the brotherhood combat system is that if you were limited to a small hp bar and enemies had more ways to fight back like stuns and having a high learning curve it would be the best combat system because new players likely would run from large groups or risk dying and experienced players can show off mastery of the combat system.
basically arkham combat. Atleast there are games i can go play if i want excellent fighting
0:24 That is a fucking EXCELLENT segue lol
Much love Walshie, great list
I feel like if ubisoft hadn't rushed out unity it could have a so much better it really could have been an amazing experience I still really enjoy the game but I feel like if ubisoft had let the programmers have another 6-8 months to fix the bugs and I think the story could have been better but honesty i think the game was great after it was patched
Why do the video notifications come after a couple of days
Combat in AC became boring when instead of time based combat system it became number based combat system
Every time I hear youtubers talk about Odyssey I'm always baffled because evidently I did not play the same game as them...
Your intro is pranked Me LOL
1:Odysy
2:Origins
3:Valhalla
I have all these games
Nice, have u played the best ones
Like Black Flag and Ezio trilogy
Absolutely love your videos mate. Playing Valhalla and it feels like such a good step in the right direction in terms of returning the series to its former glory. Male Eivor and the vibe of Norway and England is a million times better than Odyssey’s characters and setting (one of the best in the series in fact- Valhalla not Odyssey) and your videos are so on point. Happy Holidays Walshie!
Rank all the antagonists in ac including king Alfred
the goat posted less goooo ur da best
Walshie, you should do a video on the AC soundtracks. I think that would make for a very interesting video.
what annoys me the most is the overly sized weapons and enemies
