- Hello and welcome to my channel! I want to introduce my 1971 Plymouth Barracuda project car. This car requires a complete restoration and I will do my best to document the process in what will be a long series of videos.
In this episode I start by remove just about all of the back half metal in prep for all the new AMD stuff!
If you like my UA-cam content, please consider subscribing to stay up to date. ALSO, check out our Instagram page @rust_bucket_restos as well as our merch available on this page. Thanks for watching!
You're a better man than I am... to break that window and still keep a smile on your face... I don't think I could do it. I love the work you do... been watching since before the big move. What you can do just amazes me. Thanks for sharing these projects with us.
Thanks brother!
Ich kann mich diesen Worten nur anschließen ! Respekt 👍👌👏
I learned a long time ago that getting angry after a tragedy like that doesn't help the situation. All you can do is smile and chuckle into the camera while you fight off the tears, lol
One word.....PUMPED!!
Hell yea brother!
This car is actually got good bones an inner structures
It’s not bad at all!
Dang, Dude. You don't have much of a "Cuda to start off with! Kudos to you for tackling such an impossible job. I would have walked away.
A Cuda is worth restoring,no matter how rusted it is!
Omg dude you are good at wat you do I love it so kool to see a like you too show us people how to do a car right way and you you are good as that show. Graveyard Cars yes you are ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Man I wish I had your patience and talent!
Thanks for the kind words!
Patience can be learned and ability improves over time, along with effort of course. Do not give up.
Lookin good buddy
Thanks 👍
ive been in your shoes! keep it rollin!
Thanks for watching! 😎🤘
Great progress.
Thanks brother 😎🤘
I need to do some metal work on my 1971 Pontiac Lemans GT-37 as well. Thanks for sharing!
You took that back window fiasco a lot better than I would have! I would have had to stop recording for a week while I stomped around and cried like a baby!
I was shocked that it blew out like that. The trim removal tool normally works like a charm!
If you haven't scrapped the old quarters yet, try to save the areas around the side marker lights. There are people that could use them to change a 72-74 style to the better looking 70-71 style.
I’ve actually donated all of the old parts to help a buddy of mine with his build!
Great builds
Appreciate the videos
Yep!
If you can get a hold of them, try the Wuerth HSCO spot weld drill bits. The best I've used in almost 20 years of restoring cars.
Wow, this is moving quuck
Yessir!
Lots of hard work but worth it!
love it, you make it look easy! .
Thanks for watching! 😎🤘
Nicely done. Looking forward to the build.
You and me both!
I like that trick. Cut off the quarter panel to remove the quarter window
Works like a charm! It’s
Need to get back on the charger. Ready to see the primer and bodywork steps. The Cuda looks like about the same amount of metal replacement. Both are going to be saaaaweeet!
We're supposed to get 8-15 more inches of snow tonight! No charger vids for a while unfortunately.
now I don't feel so bad, been there done that.
You're an inspiration. Great work ethic. Thank you for sharing your project and knowledge. I appreciate all the hard work.
Thanks for watching!
Really enjoy watching you work. I’m glad your saving this one.
You sent us another great video. Of course T-Bone doesn't like this car because he likes Mustangs (probably Fox bodies too, which everyone and their brother had back in the day).
Considering - YEP it’s not bad at all! Too bad about the tail panel, but you can add your touch to make it better than original.
Great stuff and looking forward to its progress.
God Bless
😎
Totally agree! I think the tail panel can be saved. Might not have any other choice either!
That's a big job but well worth it. Well done.
just an idea for ya to think about. Reverse the flange on the frame rail kinda like take the left outer frame rail and add to the right and the right to the left. should give you plenty of a flange to weld to and still give you strength to the frame rail Plus it will still look like the regular spot weld trail along the frame rail
I would replace the roof skin would save a lot of labor .I have done a 73 Challenger roof and QT's fit's nice ! A1 panels from AMD
It’s surprisingly one of the only big pieces of metal that is in good condition!
@@rustbucketrestos6511 It looked rusty but that's cool i know AMD is out of stock on that tall panel as we are waiting on one for a 71 Cuda too we are working on sure seams like there inventory is down on a lot stuff even GM parts too wonder what's up with that?
Supply chain issues are impacting everything! Unfortunately it can be a waiting game sometimes. Atleast with the AMD parts you know it’ll be worth the wait!
Just drill out the spot welds and the panels will pop right off they said...🤣..🤣.
Haha it’s never that easy! I’d rather use the grinder & pry bar.
Buddy just love these videos I’m going to be doing my own car like this shorty got a 66 and a 67 Fairlane fastback located that need a lot work and have a lot of time to do the work to so my welding come a long way most admit your videos have help a lot
That's why I do what I do! Glad they are helping others with their builds!
awesome video the car is looking amazing
It really is! I'm excited to get these rear frame rails in!
Yeah that is what happened to our Cuda. The former owner tried to take the window before we picked it up and presto shattered window.
It happens! 🤷♂️
Really enjoy watching your channel with the cuda and challenger restorations. I've been tearing down a 72' challenger and will be needing to replace pretty much the same rear sections that you have done on the cuda. I like the idea of your sq.tubing supports to keep up the tail section. Could you tell me the wall thickness and tubing dimensions you used. Thank you and keep up the excellent videos. They are very helpful.
Soooooo good to see you back at it man. Hope whatever was/is going on that caused the “pause” in videos is better or getting better.
Can’t wait to see the charger again. It’s a big motivation in getting me off my ass and started on my ‘68 charger and my ‘68 satellite both of which I grew up in the back seats of.
You do awesome work and you make it look easy. More importantly you give the DIY’er like myself confidence that we can do these cars without having to turn them over to a shop and spend
$80-$100k.
Look forward to future videos brother.
Thanks a lot! Good luck with your builds! Sounds like they’ll be sweet!
Just added more parts from AMD

Hey Man!
Thanks to your videos, I was able to make a high-quality 3D model of a Dodge Charger. Which I have already printed out, and I am preparing for painting the body.
My advice. Use a respirator, or a mask. Is it really nice for you to breathe into Yourself, and your son also inhales it. Rusty dust and a collapsing cutting disc . Think about it. This is not a show-off that should not be neglected.
You're Cool! Thank you. Thanks to your video, I realized that. What, the Charger and the Challenger are built on the same chassis. I did not know This!)

😎🤘
I would love to have all the old junk you cut off this car lol my barracuda is really that bad haha
Come over & we’ll get you loaded up!
Hey Dave do you think a plasma cutter would have saved anymore time cutting apart ? Great to see you back on your projects
Love your son is enjoying helping you as well
Keep the videos coming please
Hi Werner, if I was trying to keep less metal I think it would have made a huge difference. With this car I was trying to save all the tabs, brackets, and surfaces I’ll be welding to. Either a drill bit or a grinder is my go-to for stuff like this. That said, I would LOVE to have a plasma cutter.
I’ll be honest. When you said “….took that window out without a scratch” everyone around me were wondering what the hell I was laughing at.
🤣🤘
Looks fantastic mate from what I've seen you you do so far the tail panel won't be nothing to u bro
Thanks brother!
Nice work. Too bad about the back glass.
Tell me about it.. Oh well. Plenty of aftermarket glass out there!
Oh no not again been there done that only in a salvage yard helping a friend in the early 90s remove trim to remove rear glass out of 79 Magnum needed rear quarter for his 79 glass popped didn't have too pay for the glass lucky us
It happens!
Consider keeping the rear buckets original. Mini tubs look like they'll be real pain...kinda like pealing an union. You find one thing to modify, then find two more issues. You still can squeeze some decent rubber in the factory buckets. Just my opinion. Keep 'um coming, brother!!
Is it possible to just mount a factory frame rail inboard an inch or more to give your wheel more room? You can kick out at the bumper mounts and narrow the fuel tank where needed. You may also have to slice and dice the floor pan to line up with the new location.
Well. The window is out.😢
It happens...
Love this awesome 👌....is there gonna be anymore videos coming with the Charger
Yes, soon! Just need some warmer weather so I can blast & epoxy it.
Love seeing these getting a new lease on life, caution man you need a mask you don't want that rust dust in your lungs 🫁 I've been there and done that it's not good
Thanks for watching!
Great content as always.
Quick question. That rear window bracket on the quarter panel, the one on the outside that holds the rear part of the regulator assembly. Did you preserve the original or were you able to locate and source one?
This big dummy (commenter) may have cut both of his and is considering pilfering the one out of his 72 in hopes of future availability.
I saved mine!
@Rust Bucket Resto’s
Looks like I'm Sucking On Lemons and will need to pilfer from my 72. Lesson learned.
El canal Jorge ordoñez muy bueno el tuyo también se opoyan los dos Sergio ? saludos
Muy guapo!
Question - why wouldn't you media blast the body first to get rid of scale & better assess the condition?
Love your videos so don’t get me wrong here 😎 one day your working on the 68 Charger, next day your not, what’s up with that, when we going to see the 68 Charger again ?
Sounds like you need to go back & watch the last Charger video!
I was just thinking I hope you don't break the rear glass and pop it went. I would of walked away and few bad words would of been said. I wander what going in for a power plant
Are you going to be mini-tubbing the cuda?
I was thinking about it but there isn’t a ton of room to work with before having to go full custom on the rear frame rails. May leave it stock in the rear.
Love the show. What gauge metal to use for patch panels..?
18 ga for all body panels. 12-14 ga for anything on the frame.
@@rustbucketrestos6511 Thank you
Oh, my is that a Rotacut spot weld cutter 10:09 lol . I'm not sure I mentioned it in another Video but Front header of Barracuda is sub lime green and rear panel of charger happen's to be same color sub lime color or is that the way u planned it 🙃
Rota broaches are the only way to go! The sublime is definitely wearing on me... I'm still planning to paint it Winchester Grey.
@@rustbucketrestos6511 It all come down to what color your son want's, as it's his car lol
Did you buy a spot welder for this build?
Wouldn’t be a bad idea!
I thought T-bone wanted a Mustang? Lol.
Thankfully I broke him of that nasty habit!
What kind of grinding wheel are you using to grind out the spot welds?
40-60 grit flap wheels
@@rustbucketrestos6511 thank you! Awesome videos. I'm currently rebuilding a Barracuda myself.
I've seen cars in way better shape than that that people would send to the crusher because they just couldn't be bothered to fix them. Either that or put so much filler on them they're more plastic than metal, and it shows. It's encouraging that guys like you take these Classic Cars and breathe new Life into them where others, like I said, can't be bothered...by the way, whatever became of the Convertible...that Blue one you had?
Thanks for the kind words! I had someone make an offer on the Camaro that I couldn't refuse. Tends to happen with my builds when they get close to the finish line!
Man all that metal replacement.. when it's all said and done it probably won't be more than 10% original
Whatever it takes! Better than seeing it rot into the ground!
Are these customer cars or are u restoring them for yourself? Great work, love the details
They are all mine!
Bro you need to find some good help that you just to help you ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
To my untrained eye, loos like most of those quarters were still useable. Seems like you could have cut much less metal out. Is it just the camera making things look better than they really are?
They were in pretty rough shape. The tops looked pretty but the bottoms all the way around were trashed. The wheelhouses & inner structure also needs to be addressed.
I am watching your videos as I work on my '73 Cuda. I am concerned that when I take the torch to the roof seam, it will warp the roof panel. Anything I need to know to prevent that?
I went for it. The lead melted right out and I don't believe I damaged the roof at all. Thanks for the great videos.
@toddhathhorn36 badass!!!
The car had it's revenge by exploding that window at you. I just cannot see why all that metal needed to be removed. It no longer is a 'Cuda but a resto mod. Shame.
That was the goal from the beginning 👌
Back glass scared the shit outta you! 😅
Haha yes it did! I wasn’t expecting that!
Omg dude you are good at wat you do I love it so kool to see a like you too show us people how to do a car right way and you you are good as that show. Graveyard Cars yes you are ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
