  • Hello and welcome to my channel! I want to introduce my 1971 Plymouth Barracuda project car. This car requires a complete restoration and I will do my best to document the process in what will be a long series of videos.
    In this episode I start by complete a double rear frame rail replacement!

    Between the Charger, GTO and now the Cuda, I believe I have a Master’s Degree in Grinding, Drilling and Spot-Welding! . . . 😉
    And if you’re gonna do it, do it right! … it’s the only way I go!
    You’re making these once mass-produced not-perfect cars into hand crafted, precision-engineered Perfect Works Of Functioning History and Art!
    THANK YOU for doing it, and continually sharing your work!

    I always love your uploads, and I'm so glad you are back to posting regular progress videos. You have me confused, though... when I think of "sheet metal", I'm thinking body panels... but this frame stuff is so much thicker and sturdier that I thought it would be a different type of metal. I mean... you would know better than me, but these frame pieces aren't exactly sheets. Anyway... excellent progress - the car is going to be "better than new" when you are finished with it.

    • @rustbucketrestos6511
      @rustbucketrestos6511  Рік тому

      It’s just a slightly heavier gauge. Typically 10-14 ga. Body panels are normally 18-19.

    Excellent work, I am currently doing much of the same on a 1973 Cuda. I used a 1 piece rear frame clip meant for a challenger. It fit nicely just no cutout for the fuel filler. What I found to be my biggest problem so far is that I discovered my car had been hit pretty badly and buckled the floor in spots. It really makes measuring difficult because my reference is most likely wrong. I have been combing the internet for factory dimensions and videos like yours which really help. Thanks again.👍

    Loving watch you go through this process. Brings back memories of the last few years dealing with my '74 Challenger frame rails, floor pan, trunk pan, etc... Thank goodness I didn't have to do as much as you. Not sure I could have tackled in my home garage.

    Yes you are really flying along and it's impressive just to watch. Can't wait to see the rear floor pan and trunk pan going in. Also want to see you widen the wheel wells similar to the way you did the Charger. Lovin' the coverage and tips. Malcolm Ottawa Valley

    Watching you work on this car, I can see where you've taken the lessons learned from thr Charger build and did things a bit differently. This build seems a bit less painful than the Charger. Of course fairly solid rockers and pillars help!

  • @squidkid2
    @squidkid2 Рік тому +1

    That should take care of the rear end sag. You might want to place a level across the front of the front subframe and across the rear frame rails to make sure they match and that there is no twist in the frame from front to back.

  • @joebacarella2829
    @joebacarella2829 Рік тому +1

    Crazy, when you start removing everything and cutting the frame rails off, you realize there wasn`t a whole lot of solid frame holding these unibodies in place, we were doing 100 mph in these things. doughnuts, drag racing, right on the side streets back in the day, there was no traffic like today. I don`t know man, i`m making cross braces or something to stiffen and strengthen, and add some rigitity to that frame, no, it looks like a perfect fit, i`ll tell you that, well done.

    Please READ
    I’m following your progress on the Cuda because my 70 Cuda needs the same. Unfortunately mine came disassembled, rear end is in pieces.
    I have new frame rails and really need some dimensions.
    Width at front of FR
    Width at rear of FR
    Inside distances will work.
    Thanks so much and I’m looking forward to seeing your completed Cuda.

    I never thought to use my needle scaler to remove the old undercoating. But then you were not keeping any of the Sheetmetal it came in contact with. I may try it.
