I remember well the Reagan years looking at the US from across the pond. We couldn't believe Reagan became president, but soon came to appreciate his humour and how great he made America then. I was always impressed by his speeches and knowledge of world affairs. Thanks for posting this. I was in boot camp in Paris Island that day. Very hot day waiting for Reagan to come down. It takes a long time to form-up an entire base. We were way in the back in Plt 3053. At least one recruit passed out in formation near me.
I remembered him putting on the cover at the end. Looking at this video he did fine. My memory was that he looked goofy with the cover on his head. That must have been my mentality because I arrived on April 27, 1986 and was in full throated boot mode.
I was there also, platoon 2056. I thought the same thing about his cover.... thought it looked like a ball cap on him. I was there May 6- August 1 1986. I remember our DI's asking us, " who in our platoon was a Democrat?"...those who raised their hand ended up on firewatch and didn't go see the president. I seem to recall that they took our bolt carrier groups out of all of our rifles.

That is about an inaccurate as one can get, although I've used the same acronym in joking with some of my family members and other friends and acquaintances, who have served in the United States Marine Corps.
